Hello-
Well - I just bought MoM today. However - due to prior commitments and such - I will not be able to look at it until tomorrow afternoon - at best.
Normally - I might just wait - and buy it closer to when I could look at it - but - we only received one at work - and I did not want to take the chance that it would sell before I got to it!
I'll let people know what I think once I get a chance to look it over.

I haven't seen mentions of devils in Zenthil Keep. The main vilains involved in the quests are:
- Thagdal (Male Damaran human wizard 16: Wizards guild leader - Verblen (Male Damaran human rogue 2/fughter 9): Slave lord of Zenthil Keep. - Desmonda/Eshaeris (Erinyes Consort to Lord Orgauth)
There are many generic descriptions of clerics of Bane since the miniquests involve many of them.

So at least one devil left in Zhentil Keep then. |

Reading a little further in the Zenthil Keep section, it is stated that Lord Orgauth was killed Scyllua Karkhope, an Ex-Paladin of Tyr turned to Evil by the Erinyes. So Orgauth is no more.
As for Nimbaud and Osiric, no mentions of them.

Ah ok thanks
So what do you think of the limited amount of Realmslore in MoM, whats covered and how much detail is given to the city write ups? |

Patrakis; thank you for the information, I don't now if you can answer me on this, but I have to ask.
If I already own the old 2ed. products concerning the Moonsea, is there much new here when it comes to lore information? I am not talking rules the adventures in themselves, more the culture and geography.
Thanks. |

Well, *I'D* pay to see Ed Greenwood in a Hula skirt. Seriously: I sat with Ed at a con in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and he answered a reporter's question about his "appearance fee" by saying he never charges anything. If he has to travel: air fare or a few bucks of gas if he drives, a hotel room if he has to stay over, and free admittance to the con. Otherwise, nothing. Not a dime. Re MoM: I hear this new "Delve" format is to make everything easy for the DM: "no lookups." Is it worth it? We'll see. I, too, hate stat blocks. Give me ideas, roleplaying "this character sounds like this" stuff. Inspire me. When Ed DM'd us, he often rolled dice and started to describe (like, ahem, a fantasy writer) how our swords sliced into the lizard folk, or whatever, before the dice even stopped rolling. With him, it's all about story, not "Can I hit the PC standing next to me before he gets me?" |

The lore information is very thin, particularly at the regional level. The information is really centered around each city where the adventures are taking place. There is also a logical way to implement the adventures. The lower level encounters start in Melvaunt and gradually become harder and culminate in Zenthil Keep.
You get a quick overview of the region around the each of the 4 cities and the book goes rapidly to the details of the cities themselves. Very quick cover of Law, government, weather, politics, etc. No more that one or two paragraphs each. There are about 5 or 6 pages of info for each cities and you get a quick description of numbered locations on the maps. Where are the shrines and temples of the main faiths, government buildings, etc.
I also found there is a lot of space dedicated to stat blocks for the many vilains and monsters in the book.
What i like IS the encounter themselves though because they give very delailed information on specific places in the cities with maps of many locations.
Tonight i'll post a page count on stat blocks usage versus lore versus adventure informtation if you like. I'm kind of curious of what i'll get :)
That being said, i love this new book of the realms because i love details and you can get anymore detailed than an adventure like that. I'll use those NPCs and locations in many more encounters in those cities because my next campaign will take place in the moonsea. Each building and npc detailed is less work for me as a DM :) I can then devote my time to the story, which is what i like to write.

That sounds great! I am leaning towards skipping this book, but I still hope something will convince me otherwise. I have always liked the Moonsea and would love to have my knowledge of the region expanded.

Hello all,
Here is what i promise on the page count. Those are approximate numbers ok...i haven't counted every line in the book :)
Intro and lost pages to table of content, credits and such: 8
Overall Moonsea Region: 1 page + 1 map of the region.
City of Melvaunt: 38 pages of text presented like this: - 10 pages of general lore (3 of which are stat blocks) - 12 pages on city adventures (1.5 of which are stat blocks) - 16 pages on northern environs adventures (1 of which are stat blocks)
City of Hillsfar: 43 pages of text presented like this: - 12 pages of general lore (5 of which are stat blocks) - 18 pages of city adventures (3 of which are stat blocks) - 13 pages of southern environs adventures (5 of which are stat blocks)
City of Mulmaster: 35 pages of text presented like this: - 11 pages of general lors (3 of which are stat blocks) - 14 pages of city adventures (2.5 of which are stat blocks) - 10 pages of eastern environs adventures (0.5 of which are stat blocks)
City of Zenthil Keep: 34 pages of text presented like this: - 8 pages of general lore (3 of which are stat blocks) - 14 pages on city adventures (2 of which are stat blocks) - 12 pages on western environs adventures (3.5 of which are stat blocks)
Hope this helps on getting an idea if the book.
PAt
ps: I should point out the the general lore section of each city include's the city location section. It sometimes takes 2 or 3 pages of text is it's mainly a short description of the most important places of interest of the city. |

good job, thanks for the overview. I was starting to get worried that the entire tome would be for adventures. Great to have lore included. |

Maps hey...I just love maps and this book is full of them. They are not very big though and not personaly to my taste in maps but they are there. (i abandoned a long time ago the idea that WotC would give use good maps :))
Regional maps: 1 letter sized map of the region with added points of interest that fit the adventures in the book.
City maps: 4 city maps that take about half a page with numbered locations. Too smal to be useful. - Melvaunt: 15 localtions detailed - Hillsfar: 9 locations detailed - Mulmaster: 18 locations detailed - Zenthil Keep: 12 locations detailed
Location maps: - Melvant: 10 location maps that range from a quarter of a page to half a page. These are in the adventure section. - Hillsfar: 9 location maps like the ones in Melvaunt. - Mulmaster: 9 location maps. - Zenthil Keep: 10 location maps.
Regards

There doesnt seem to be enough for me to use in this one. I think I will manage without this product.

Hi Jorkens,
I understand you pain but at least take a look at it next time you go to your local hobby shop. Seeing it with your own eyes might get you hooked :)

I will, but with the Norwegian book-prices being what they are and me still working on completing my Fantasy Masterworks collection, I don't think there's much chance.
But, again, thank you for giving me a better idea of the books content. |

No tears of sympathy from those of us that have to rely on international snail-mail
I have to admit a bit of dissapointment that Phlan is not mentioned. I have fond memories of that city. (but I have as yet not been influenced by the Pools Trilogy....its one of the older series still on my to-be-read list).
But has there been any detailed 3E writing in terms of an update on Phlan since the Pool of Radiance module?
quote: Reading a little further in the Zenthil Keep section, it is stated that Lord Orgauth was killed Scyllua Karkhope, an Ex-Paladin of Tyr turned to Evil by the Erinyes. So Orgauth is no more.
Ok, so is this the first time this has been detailed or has this event been written about elsewhere (novel, accessory, etc)? |
Just My Thoughts Chyron :)
