Hey the only reason why you havent seen any movement on Timeline recently is Ive been waiting for dates for for events from DoF (specficly when certain dragon events occured) and the WOSQ trilogy (Specficly when Lolths silence started and ended)

Well that and Ive only recently ordered Lisa and eriks new novels from Amazon

Specific dates for the silence and some of the other stuff are given in Dragon 354, if you've not yet acquired it.

Well met

Alas, the time has come when Brian's outstanding PDF of this work has had to be removed from the shelves of Candlekeep At the request of WotC, we are unable to offer this as a download, understandably. Nevertheless, we can all look forward to the official copy to hit the shelves later this year

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Brian for allowing Candlekeep to host his Grand History PDF. It's certainly been a pleasure and has been a very popular tome for all Realms fans.

Well done, Brian. Truly a great labor of love that has certainly paid off

Indeed.

Eric's Volo's Guide article notes that Lolth's Silence began in Eleasis 28, 1372 DR and ends on Ches 28, 1373 DR.

And here's what Erik Scott de Bie had to say about the date and year for Depths of Madness -

"I'm generally all about dating things, but Depths of Madness was purposefully note date-marked because the characters have very little way of keeping track of time (other than, as Twilight points out, knowing roughly when it's midnight) -- they don't know how long they've been down there, in the dark.

For reference, however, the novel takes place roughly throughout the month of Nightal of 1374. The webstory ("That Time of the Tenday," which takes place before DoM) is date-marked once as Uktar 1374.

There's some flex-time as to actual specific days of the month for the novel. I see the last day presented in the novel as Hammer the first, 1375--a new year, a new Twilight.

Cheers"

Brian did a little bit of leaking over at WOTC

quote:

So you already have the PDF and want to know why you should purchase the sourcebook? There are too many goodies to list them all but I’ll mention some of the features that I find particularly compelling about the print version of the Grand History.

• Fans of the creator races will find juicy new lore.
• Want to know more about the Sundering? Or what the planet looked like before this catastrophic event?
• Curious about the Crown Wars? Want to see the first official map of the elven nations which fought the 2nd and 4th crown wars?
• Dark elf fans will enjoy new lore on ancient Ilythiir and the Descent of the Drow.
• The lost empires of Jhaamdath and Imaskar are fleshed out further than in any previous sourcebook, including a fantastic map for each.
• Updated lore on Netheril, their enslavement of gnomes and the fate of General Matick.
• Fans of the lands beyond Faerûn will enjoy new lore on Katashaka (the ancient home of the Chultans), the rise of the Imaskar survivor states, and the formation of Shou Lung. Maztica and Anchorome are represented as well. Sorry no Osse.
• You want to read more about the Dark Three when they were mortals right? Or how the Tears of Selûne were formed?
• Dawn Cataclysm.
• Ed Greenwood's name is on the cover for a reason.

Out of Brians list

More info on Bane, Bhaal and Mykrul and a fleshing out of Jhaamdath particularly got my attention

Hello-

I especially find the listing of "Dawn Cataclysm" interesting!

I really am looking forward to this even more! And to think it will likely have artwork in it too!

Dargoth left of this little tidbit, also from Brian -

"Ancient history is great and all but you’re wondering how the Grand History will help your campaign set in the present. How about a month by month break down of every major event from the Year of Wild Magic (1372 DR) through the Year of Risen Elfkin (1375 DR). Those of you that don’t read every novel can now use these events in your campaign if you so choose."

New Imaskarian lore - this is absolutely great.

But not the least important point to buy the book: the papers of a print out of the pdf file have never the quality of a real sourcebook with its paper's likeness to ancient parchment.

The Dawn Cataclysm? Wow, I wonder if they're going to officially pin that one down... I've always hated the "outside of time" explanation; no disrespect to those who adhere to that one.

Oooooh, the Dark Three! I can't wait for this book.

This is the most excited I've been about any product in a long time. I'm really excited about this and I cannot express how hard it is to wait until its released. It just sounds better and better as more "leaks" out.

As I said to you in another scroll, Eric's Dragon article for the Dalelands has the Spider Queen timeline.

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Ed tells me that this book was written and edited at "breakneck speed," with all of the contributors chipping in and checking on things and helping each other; very hectic but VERY enjoyable for him. "Just like the good old days," he said, "with some of the longtime not-so-hidden-to-Candlekeep Lore Lords of the Realms all in harness together."
So now I'M excited, all over again.
love to all,

I'll never forget that first email from Ed Greenwood welcoming me to the team. I'll admit I was a bit intimidated; staring at my keyboard pondering what my reply would be. Then another message came in from Ed in response to an email from Gwendolyn Kestrel. His reply was 'Drat. There goes my plan to have the Millenium Falcon welded to Elminster's belt buckle.' From that moment, I knew I was in for one hell of fun ride. The collaboration with everyone on the team was amazing. Everyday I was like a kid in a candy store with lore pouring in from Tom, George, Eric and Ed. Gwen Kestrel kept the project on track and happily answered all my ‘newbie’ questions about the business. And finally working with Managing Editor Kim Mohan to ensure the product is solid and as error free as possible. This is the guy that wrote the original Wilderness Survival Guide back in 1st-Edition. How cool is that? Anyway, the experience was certainly fantastic and I hope I have the opportunity to work with these folks again soon!

Since 05-25-2006 when the third version of the Grand History was released, the PDF has been downloaded 10,070 times from hobgoblin.org. Candlekeep.com and other sites would have their own numbers of course. Hopefully, those readers that downloaded the PDF will consider purchasing the sourcebook.

I am extremely glad to have a copy of the pdf since I use it as a reference for creating characters (I tend to write rather long character histories), campaigns, and to simply satisfy my need for realmslore, but I can't wait to get my hands on the sourcebook. I can't remember the last time I was this excited about a sourcebook.

Indeed. I'm seriously considering purchasing two copies of Grand History upon its release -- one for reference purposes and the other to store away. I'm trying to convince the Lady K to do the same...

I suggest you use a modified version of Peter Costellos arguement from last years budget

Get a copy of GHotR for you

Another for LadyK

Another for the baby when it learns to read (Who wants to hear about Snow White when tou could read about the crown wars)

and buy a last copy for the country!

Aye, i've already decided on the same thing I know that the tome will get a hell of a lot of use and will likely stay on the coffee table. That simply wont do, of course, as i'll need to have one up on the bookcase in the study as well

Aye.

Given the extensive use this tome will likely receive, both as a reference and campaign source, I can see my copy becoming heavily "worn." I'll be purchasing two copies.
