I wonder if this will bring the newer novel events into the timeline? |

Just wanted to stop by a let everyone know that the release date for the Grand History is now September 18th, moved up from November. Much more than a massive timeline, the Grand History also contains fantastic new lore penned by Ed Greenwood, Eric Boyd, George Krashos, Tom Costa, and myself. Throw in some new maps and fantastic artwork, this one is going to be a real treat for fans of Realmslore. |

Yeah, the more I hear about this, the more excited I am for this product to come out. You had a great idea and put in an amazing amount of quality work, and I'm really glad that this is working out in the manner that it is. |

After Mr. James last post I am so excited I can hardly stand the wait! This will be a Realms product that I will read and use way more than anything that has come out for a long time! All of the contributors mentioned are awesome! Is it September yet? Any chance it can come out in June? Thanks Brian for a top-notch product! I hope that you prosper in this endeavor. |

Well met
Aye, this is a product that i've always hoped from and had on my wish list since the days of TSR
I'm more excited about this than any other product. I simply can't wait!!
Thanks for the extra news, Brian. This makes things even more exciting. Every FR author must be eager to get their stamp on the tome too |

I'd say the sooner it comes down, the better. It may sound cruel, but I'd like to build as much anticipation for this sourcebook as possible. Removing the "prototype" version from Candlekeep, within the next few months, will likely do that.

I think that's a very sensible idea. The sooner it is 'gone' the sooner people will see the void that this product will fill.

I don't care about the huge Cormyr-Shadowdale-Anauroch campaign but the Grand History of the Realms is definitely a must-have for me. I just can't wait to see it published |

I must have this book. I may implode otherwise, due to lack of FR fluff.
Don't buy the regional adventures. It shows WotC that you like it, and they might make more. Do buy the historical sourcebook. It shows WotC that you like it, and they might make more. |

I'd say to buy them if you like them are interested in them. The danger in an overall FR boycott because you don't like the format is to send the message to WOTC that FR itself doesn't sell.
If they are good products and interest you, buy them. If not, don't. I wouldn't try to do anything "tricky" to get WOTC to change formats, and from at least one thread that a lot of us here participated in over at WOTC's boards, I'd say they actually have the idea that we do want more "standard" sourcebooks, but as Rich Baker has said a few times, what's in the pipeline now won't see the light of day for a while, so don't expect immediate responses.

Plus it's a slap in the face to people like Eytan, Eric Boyd and Rich Baker who've worked hard on the adventures. They've gotta eat too! |

A question: Dragon 354 has a timeline of recent events for Cormanthor in there. Are these events also going to be in the Grand History? |

Excellent! Thanks for the quick response!
Is there going to be something like annual updates (assumably as web supplements) to the book, once it's out? |

I have not had any discussions with WotC regarding annual updates, but I'd certainly like to see that as well. I'll suggest it to the powers that be and see what happens. |

My final turnover did not include events from the three super modules, other than the bits revealed in Dragon 354. The timeline is currently being reviewed by WotC, however, and it's likely that additional events will be included. I'll check into it and see if the super module events will make the cut. |

Hmmm... if WotC decide not to take up this suggestion, we scribes of the Compendium should perhaps consider generating our own timeline addendums after a certain number of new FR products have been released over a three-month period for example. Depending on the format of the new timeline, we should have a basic idea about how to structure these addendums, and then make them freely downloadable here at Candlekeep.

OOO, I like and agree! |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

It sounds good to me... Though I fear getting stuck with things that (originally, at least) aren't dated, like Lolth's silence... |

I was wondering about that myself...
Usually though, we have some basic idea about when such events occured, if not their specific year. If it becomes too difficult to accurately plot a specific date and/or year, seeking input from the relevant game designers or authors responsible for the work may help -- provided they aren't bound by any particular NDAs.

Indeed.
What I'm suggesting though... is that we include each addendum with each new volume of the Compendium release. Each new addendum will feature timeline references for the products released during that period. At least then, the official Grand History supplement will have quarterly updates from those of us here at Candlekeep who can plot the specific dates and make the appropriate references.

I really like this idea. Official or not, Dargoth's timeline is a great example of the quality work the Realms community can produce. Looks like its time for Dargoth to join the Compendium staff. |
