The character I am creating for Expedition to Undermountain is a tuigan ranger1/barbarian2. In a nutshell, Hubadai Khahan gathered all of the orphans from the war and had them placed in training camps where they were educated, cared for, and taught to fight. Upon returning from his journeys into the west, he came home to a well trained, well organized, and fiercely loyal fghting force of around 500 soldiers. He dubbed the force the "Children of the Khahan" and uses them as his personal bodyguards and emissaries into the western realms. I've got several pages of history and lore based largely on the Paizo web enhancement that went along with the Dragon Hordelands article to go with it, but it seems to be missing. Once I find it, I'll post more.

A bit of Hordelands lore and the background story of Torgon “Little Muunokhoi” Jonkai...

Torgon Jonkai was born on the 28th day of Alturiak in the Year of the Prince, 1358 DR.

Torgon’s father, Baga Jonkai, was one of Yaman Khahan’s most loyal generals. The young man idolized the Khahan and worked diligently to climb the ranks of the army of the Endless Wastes. Baga became a general in 1359, and served the khahan well, even becoming friends with the khahan’s son, Hubadai. Baga was killed in battle just tendays before King Azoun IV of Cormyr slew the Khahan in single combat.

With Yaman Khahan dead, the rest of the Horde army disbanded and returned to their traditional nomadic lifestyles. Hubadai Khahan, the youngest son of Yamun Khahan, has sought to continue his father’s work of uniting the Tuigan by creating the kingdom of Yaïmmunahar. A few tribes support Hubadai’s vision of a Tuigan nation, but a majority view the kingdom with contempt, holding to their ancient beliefs that civilized people are a treacherous and untrustworthy lot. Knowing his vision would cause conflict, Hubadai Khahan turned his focus to the Yunïchaar to serve as his protectors and guardians of his kingdom.

The Yunïchaar is an elite army that answers only to the khahan. The Yunïchaar was founded on an ancient practice of kidnapping enemy young and raising them as fierce, loyal warriors. Remaining true to his vision of a civilized kingdom, Hubadai Khahan has officially ended the practice of yunïchaar kidnapping, but the Yunïchaar remains a strong force, bolstered by the addition of the orphans of the war.
As a tribute to the honored dead who gave their lives for his father’s vision, Hubadai located all of the children orphaned by the war and placed them in a training camp where they were cared for, educated, and taught to fight.

In the following years, Hubadai secretly visited and studied Sembia, Waterdeep, Zhentil Keep, and other Faerûnian kingdoms. He was most impressed with Cormyr, finding their tradition of war wizards and the Purple Dragons to be an accomplishment worthy of aspiration. Inspired by the great accomplishments of these nations, Hubadai returned to the Hordelands determined to build a kingdom to rival any in the west.
When he returned, he found the orphans had all been well-educated and well-trained. He was greatly pleased to find nearly five hundred fiercely loyal warriors ready to serve their khahan.

The “Children of the Khahan” as they became known, are the elite of the Yunïchaar. They serve as his personal bodyguards and assistants, with several accompanying him at all times. Given his penchant for hosting western nobles, all of the Children of the Khahan were trained in the culture and etiquette of western nobility. The first orphan that Hubadai located was Torgon Jonkai, the son of his friend Baga who had died during the war.

Torgon’s mother died during childbirth while his father was off fighting in the war. With the child’s father away and no other family present to care for him, the wet nurse took Torgon to a nearby orphanage. He stayed there until after the war when emissaries of Hubadai Khahan came to claim him. He was taken to live in a training camp that the khahan built for the purpose of housing and training the approximately 500 orphans of the war. The camp was a small tent city that housed the orphans and their instructors. Among the ranks of the instructors were scholars, artists, and warriors. The orphans were taught to read and write and were also taught the basics of astrology, medicine, history, and mathematics. The most important part of their training was in warfare.

Several of the Khahan’s best warriors were sent to the camp to train the Children of the Khahan. Mornings were spent in classrooms learning from the scholars, but afternoons were spent learning to fight. Muunokhoi, a retired general of the Khahan, was the instructor in charge of Torgon’s group. Having lost his son and grandson in the war, Muunokhoi blamed himself for not training them well enough and he vowed that he would not fail these children. Muunokhoi was stern but kind, drilling the children until their maneuvers became second nature to them. Muunokhoi quickly realized that Torgon was an exceptional child, gifted with great strength, intelligence, speed, and stamina. He also saw in the boy a rage that the boy kept well-hidden, but Muunokhoi hoped that one day he could teach Torgon to harness this rage and use it to his advantage in battle.

Torgon came to view the old general as a father figure and in many ways Torgon filled the void left within Muunokhoi after the death of his son and grandson. All of the children were trained on a wide array of weapons but each was given the opportunity to choose his or her own signature weapon when they reached 12 years of age. Torgon chose the heavy flail because it was the signature weapon of Muunokhoi and he always tried to emulate the old man. Torgon quickly mastered the weapon, which earned him the nickname “Little Muunokhoi” among the other students. As Muunokhoi taught Torgon to unleash his rage, his name became even more appropriate. Muunokhoi means “vicious dog,” his parents named him in accordance with an old tribal tradition of trying to scare evil spirits away from the infant by giving them such names. The name “Little Vicious Dog” really fit the 13 year-old rager and stuck with him over the years. Of course in time the term “little” became a misnomer, but the name stayed with him.

By the time Hubadai returned from his travels afar, “Little Vicious Dog” stood 6 feet, 6 inches tall and weighed over 200 pounds. Hubadai was quite impressed with Torgon and the rest of his “Children” and saw the opportunity to use these loyal warriors as his personal bodyguard and royal guard within the walls of his new kingdom, Yaïmmunahar. For several seasons, Little Muunokhoi served as Hubadai Khahan’s bodyguard and confidant often assisting Hubadai as he researched many of the Western tomes he had brought back from his travels.

One of these tomes consumed Little Muunokhoi’s interest, a collection of tales, stories, and myths surrounding a place known as Undermountain. While visiting Waterdeep during his travels, Hubadai had heard mention of Undermountain, and had even ventured into the Yawning Portal to get a glimpse of the place. Late one evening, Hubadai received a vision of a starry eyed man calling him to Undermountain. Feeling that somehow this vision was important, but unable to leave his fledgling kingdom, Hubadai decided to send one of his “Children” to Undermountain. Recalling Little Muunokhoi’s interest in the place, Hubadai chose him for the task. Within hours of the vision, Little Muunokhoi found himself walking the streets of Waterdeep having been teleported by one of Hubadai’s house wizards.

Disoriented from the teleportation, Little Muunokhoi stumbled into the first tavern he came across so he could sit down for a moment and gather his wits. He looked at the tavern across the street, and saw a sign that read “Selune’s Smile.” The place looked friendly enough so he wandered in and took a seat.

Race : Drow
Class/level : 9 Bard
Age : 125

Veldrin is not her real name, She was born Ssin'Urn of a noble house in a lesser Drow city. She was the last child of the daugther of a Matrone. She had a Bard slave of her own, who was charge of her security.

She was different even in her childhood and she had a beautiful voice, so the bard sing her every night and she sang with him.

She grow without attention from her familly, fift daugther of a second daugther, she was not realy important.

She grow loving music and song. She really start singing for Lloth but that doesn't satify her to sing for a goddes who doesn't inspire her.

She didn't like her society who place cruelty and rivalty upper than art and beauty. She pass more time with the slave lurning about the upper land then with her familly lurning about Lloth.

When the time to go to school, to become priestess, approach, she made a plan with her favorites slaves and escape in the upper world where she was welcome in a Eilistraee Village.

She married a moon elf of that village, from a family who had live since the first wielder of their Moonblade, for Eilistraee. He had save and bring her to that village, he had help her and show her all the beauty in the world he could show her. She was blessed by Eilistraee and give birth to a daughter in good health.

But, when the daughter was 10, the Drow found the village and attack it. His usban died in her arm, but unstead of bequeathed his moonblade to his yong daughter, he gave it to his wife. For the cause and for her security, to show the elf she was a friend, she was a elf and every Drow of Eilistraee was a elf.

She start really working for the cause, voyaging and singing for Eilistraee and the other Drow in her case every where in every contry.

Destiny is as great as our choice.

I've been playing Laerrigan at the table for nearly 3 years, now (the setting is basically FR, as far as rules, but with a different map). His race/AL/classes are given in my signature. High Int, low Wis/Cha, good Con. Because of his bastardly teacher/father-figure, Laerrigan is convinced that anyone with both fiend AND drow blood can't possibly be kind or generous or compassionate, and that any inclinations he feels toward these are, to put it crudely, like teats on a bull. But he just can't find it in himself to be outright evil. Not so far, at any rate--chaotic company and the negative results from some of his bumbling attempts at good-doing are slowly pushing him more toward the dark side of his heritage, and he's balancing on a fine edge at the moment with nothing but pragmatism and some murky tatters of emotion to guide him.

Other than that, I've played a number of characters in shorter stints. One that I'd still like a chance to play some day just for the novelty of it is my natural were-dire-wolverine barbarian/bard who currently follows Sune but still clings to certain remnants of Malar's philosophy from his childhood among the People of the Black Blood He's an avid gourmet cook who gladly eats the heads off of humanoid enemies in combat (the brains are the tastiest part of the body, and they come in that crunchy shell--who could resist?).

"Your 'reality,' sir, is lies and balderdash, and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever." (Baron Munchausen)

First of all : WOW!!! You guys are so dedicated to your characters, that you made so much background story! I AM IMPRESSED!! I did it only once when I made my cleric of Lathander, but I was so sad when he died that I didnt want never again to commit so much to some character. How do you do it? How do you feel when your character, no no... PERSON dies?

Anyway, we should now begin adventure with Drow elves of Vhaeraun and i play some cool ranger/rogue drow. We are in secret cult of Vhaeraun to owerthrow Lolth! I think it will be pretty cool when the adventure begins....

Embrace your demise.

New character is an Aventi Favored soul of Tyr. (too bad he doesn't exist anymore.) for any who don't know what an aventi is, picture a human with fins on it's arms and legs. the Aventi are heavily lawful race, but like I said before, I like characters who dfie the norm, so even though I am of Tyr, I chose to be NG

sadly, I don't have a PnP group, but I focus a lot on RP in my NWN online games.... though much of my time now is dedicated to building and back-end stuff, not playing.

Regardless...Milo Mosstouch is my favorite.

Milo Mosstouch, Hand of Misadventure
Cleric 6/Rogue 5/ Shadowdancer 4
Halfling
Cleric of Brandobaris
Chaotic Neutral

Milo is portly and nearly always chipper. Born in Waterdeep, his father ran a short lived inn there known as the Tartless Tart, which was *renowned* for its Cherry Tarts. Milo jokes that his father used to chide him about "eating us out of house and home" but swears that's not the reason the inn failed. A traveler at heart, he spent a great deal of time in Daggerdale and the surrounds. When not off on some adventure, eating or exploring some place he really shouldn’t be, he can usually be found sitting in the inn, (quite possibly waiting for more food) twirling a silver chain around his finger, at the end of which is a Silver Footprint.

A typical introduction would sound something like this (all stemmed from great feats he’s undertaken, of course )

“Milo Mosstouch, Hand of Misadventure, Scourge to all Kobolds, Slayer of Goblin Kings, Skeleton Smasher, Bugbear Basher, Ogre O-nihilator - that one just sounds really good, - Mountain Giant Mangler and savior of all elves everywhere! The Pleasure is yours, of course! *said with a very warm and wide grin*

Milo uses a sling predominantly, and swears the local supplier of sling bullets (where ever he may be) is selling him “crooked rocks” which is part of his favorite curse in battle when “the rocks aren’t flying straight”. “Crooked rocks and slanted swords!”

I'm not so much of a writer like some of you here. I come up with OK backgrounds, then the rest comes out in RP and that builds the backstory. It's been several months since I've played Milo, and hind sight being what it is, I should have done a better job of chronicling my sessions with him. This is the character that I most often remake, even if the class combo is weak on NWN

The character that I am considering playing next is as of yet unnamed. But I have a cool idea.

I was thinking of playing a character, possibly from a race typically associated with magic, only have them "magic dead". Possibly an elf from a long line of archmages or something even more closely associated with magic.

I wanted this character to have an extreme love of magic, only they couldn't access magic themselves, no matter how much they try. So to get around it, they he tries to adorn himself with as many magical items to allow himself to "cast spells" throughout battle as if he were a mage. Such as using Rings of Elemental Command or wielding a Staff of Power.

Clearly, to do this correctly they'd likely have to have a good number of Rogue levels with a lot of focus on the Use Magical Item skill.

I haven't delved too much into this, but it does seem like an interesting character.

My current character is Garrett Boarskyr, a mostly-human child of an unwilling tiefling pairing. He's a warlock with wizarding ambitions and a childhood spent thieving in Berdusk. The protagonist of several short stories I've written.

For the rest of you all, the T'kel is an exotic race detailed in Dragon #317. He's playing a character in a campaign I'm running in Amn detailing the famous ogre mage Sothillis, and his ogre hordes plagueing the trade routes in the "Land of Merchants". A correction on the level of this T'kel mercenary: he is actually only a level 4 ranger, with no other multiclasses. I think Altai is talking about what he wants the PC to become in a while (If he makes it there ) If I were you Connor, I'd multiclass as a monk though, not a sorcerer ; since the T'kel are more inclined to enlightenment than magical power (which is why they revere the examples of a mortal, not even a Demi-deity, resulting in no clerical powers) If he did dabble with magic, I would reccommend a druid or bard. If it's arcane magic you want though, a sorcerer is more seen than a wizard among T'kel.

Hi all. I'm new to the board. This seemed like the right place for a first post.
I play Taskin, a ghostwise halfling (Hin!) Druid. I just made it to CL 8 so I'm real pumped about getting the large wild shape. Before really looking over the Druid spell list I desided that Taskin would have a fear of fire. So he has never cast any fire spells. His Riding dog Zook has been there since the begining and has yet to go down in combat.
We used the point buy system and got 27 or 28 points I cant remember. I have put both my ability points in Wis.
Taskin Druid 8
Str 8
Dex 16
Con 12
Int 8
Wis 17 (19 with the pereapt sp?)
Cha 14
I have a few handy items including the tunic of steady spell casting, a rod of extention, a pearl of power and a set of enchanted dragon hide breast plate.
Since level 8 I have spent a good amount of time in dire ape form. It changes me to large with a 10 foot reach and physical attributes of
str. 22 Con. 14 Dex 15

My current character is an aasimar follower of Lathander.
Stats:
STR - 22
DEX - 20
CON - 22
INT - 24
WIS - 20
CHA - 22

Gonna be a while before she can use any clerical abilities because of the WIS score , but she has quite the interesting story. She met both her husband and best friend at CK. She is married to a fey'ri, best friends with another fey'ri- who used to be a tiefling -and is trying to set him up with a half-vampire. Sound nuts to you?

The gods must be getting a good laugh at her expense right now. I know the DM is. Hate you, R

Anyone who likes to read something that's really dark and gritty and completely awesome ought to read The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks. You can check out a little taste at www.BrentWeeks.com I should probably warn you, though, that it is definitely not PG-13 :-D

He also started a new Trilogy with Black Prism, which may even surpass the Night Angel Trilogy in its awesomeness.

We may have done a little power leveling...(Fight tons of monsters at a time) It takes out a lot of the RPGing and other stuff, but it was fun being able to walk into one room fight 10 zombies, heal, go into the next room and fight a beholder.

I've done it a time or two myself...but back in first edition...well, fighting ten zombies, healing, and going to fight a beholder didn't work out so well with ye ol' "save or die" eye-beams!

The Old Grey Box and AD&D for me!

I just started a new campain, and I'm playing the dumb fighter with a twist. his name is Ru'in and he's a feral half Ogre. monk 1 fighter 2
str 27
con 20
dex 14
int 6
wis 17
cha 12
(defenetly powerplay :P)
he's a loyal guy, but easy to trust just about anyone, he's got the personality of your basic 6 year old, you have to tel him what to to do couse he just wont think of it himself. he's prety curiouse, he'll just wander of and get himself in trouble. he's pretty fun to play.
I'm building him up to be a hulking hurler (so he'll be basicly a cool siege weapon :D)

paladin: Ignorance is no excuse!
Rogue: Why?
Paladin: I don't know.
Rogue: IGNORANCE IS NO EXCUSE!!!

I've got a favorite character, but he's a secret, so...

Here's the one I'm using right now.

Reiks Gear, Human Fighter9/Rogue6 (1st level was rogue)
Str 14
Dex 19
Con 14
Int 18
Wis 17
Cha 18

He dual-wields kukris, has the Able Learner feat, has a permanent true-seeing effect (left eye only, so he can tell when what he's looking at is magically obscured), has maxed ranks in use magic device, and is just plain ridiculously entertaining to play.

His bluff, diplomacy, and intimidate skills are pretty high, so he's pretty much the party's mouth (and brow-beater).

Being sarcastic can be more telling than simply telling.

Full Name: William Berthold Rumson (Bill)
Race: Human (Tethyrian)
Homeland: Cormyr (Born to the High Dale)
Whereabouts: The north west
Age: 35 (45)
Height: 6’
Weight: 220lbs
Build: Stocky, wiry, bearlike
Hair: Red but graying, wild and unkempt with exaggerated overgrown lion’s mane like sideburns.
Eyes: Bright green and very expressive

Class: Ranger6/Scout6/Cav3

Personality: Bill carries himself as an irreverent scoundrel of intemperate disposition whose loud, bellicose and opinionated manner oft stands juxtaposed to bouts of melancholy when he wanes philosophic (INT 16). A frequent brawler, gambler and womanizer, Bill has great joy showing little restraint, whose hedonistic tendencies and corruptible soul frequently leads him into deep trouble with the law. (CG with varying levels of N depending on inebriation)

Publicly Bill will admit three vices, women (CHR14, Diplomacy 9), gambling and white lightning spirits, his uncle’s smoothly insidious brew in particular. All three he publicly damns to high heaven as he indulges to excess whilst extolling the virtues of abstinence. Many a tall campfire tale has been told of his exploits. Always highly entertaining, mostly to himself, and a little disturbing but more often annoying (Perform: Tall Tales 7/Song 3/Banjo 2), he becomes increasingly loud and outlandish the deeper his bottle goes.

On occasion, moments before fits of the vapours or a good mud drunk, Bill will lament/praise his passion wandering the world, tied down to no one or nothing, searching for his latest pay dirt, an always elusive yet just out of reach dream of wealth and the good life. Money has always burned a hole in Bills purse leaving a wake of very wealthy charlatans who seemingly sense it for leagues. (Wisdom 10, Sense Motive 2). On the other hand, there are a lot of good people deeply indebted to Bill who have benefited greatly from his often financially reckless generosity, although, he’d never collect having forgotten the loan shortly after giving it.

Those few who know tell Bill’s really a good soul deep down; fiercely protective of his friends with an almost indiscernible, peculiar and complex yet complete sort of honor that can at times be quite pernicious as far as the law is concerned, especially should it be too terribly corrupt or unjust. Bills been known to let a smart con or talented cut purse go, admiring their panache yet dueling to the death over simple perceived slights be it some rude demeanor or contemptuous remark. He delights in a good fight, knocking chips off shoulders, especially when thoroughly soused.

Bill is a complex, self sufficient (Able Learner), fearless (feat), individualist whose bull headed ways (Strong Willed) won’t allow him to see that he’s really running away from responsibility, deeper into the wilds, protecting those he cares about from the destructive inner demons of his past, those mistakes made in youth, still subconsciously haunting him to this day.

Currently Bill resides somewhere up in the cold North West shacked up with an Uthgart spirit woman, panning for gold, trapping, hunting and brewing whiskey in some unnamed town. Along with the woman Bill also resides with a young Monk/Cleric of Illmater (Jack) and his evil assassin duplicate (long story) also (Jack), a Cyrisist Zent spy (ret) (Avon) and his closest friend and compatriot of years (Curmudgeon), an awakened Bedine charger of the finest quality and most intemperate demeanor. Bill is friend to many tribes, knows the terrain well (Area Knowledge 8) and often hires on as guide or joins adventuring parties. A word of warning, even though somewhat an honorable and trustworthy man, Bill can be a scoundrel and is a known fugitive of many kingdoms, who frequently attracts the odd bounty hunter or three or long forgotten nemesis out to even an old score.

Note: for those of you who think you recognize him, I had glommed the character concept from Lee Marvin’s portrayal of Ben Rumson in paint your wagon. I had unexpectedly dropped into an impromptu 1st ed Realms game one Friday night a bit drunk from an excellent single malt with the DM’s wonderfully attractive red haired girl friend inspiring me to play the part. Since, Bills been a tradition for the other players to keep me well provisioned to ensure my keeping in proper character.

Currently I'm playing 2 characters: The first is a 10th lvl Cleric of St. Cuthbert named Baldric, and the second is an 8th level Wizard named Bayne. Both are fun. We just started the campaign so they are new with few magical items and not much character yet, but they're growing.

My absolute favorite character that I ever played was a 10th level knight with psionic abilities. His name was Thelgar! I started him out at 3rd level and it took 3 years of real time playing to advance him to 10th. (Yes the DM was a little stingy with the Experience Points) Everyone else went through MULTIPLE characters over the years but Thelgar survived time and time again! 'Sigh' I miss him.

My name is Damian EL I am a Wizard. I was born and raised in the city of splendors (Waterdeep) on the sword coast. My mother was of noble blood in her spear time she designed and made cloaks for the nobles. She is well known for making Gemcloaks. My father was a noble he was a writer and teller of tales. When I was a boy I met a mage he told me about magic and what wizards do, from that moment I wanted to be a wizard. The mage needed some one to help him in his workshop so I went to my father to ask him if i could work for the wizard in his work shop. He talk to the mage and agreed to let me work for him and he would teach me about magic. That lasted for 2 years. Till I was old enough to attend mage school. With the help of my master I was accepted in Mage School. I spent 4 yrs, learning all I could about the arcane art. While there I decided to become a General Wizard and learn all schools of magic. From there I became a Neutral good mage and a follower of the goddess Mytra. (More to come)

I've Rebuilded my Dwarven Wizard which originally was in Victor's Campaign for another champaign which i've started in ... have reworked it from a Envoker/Master Specialist who specialised in standing far away dealing loads of damage, into a Gish which is going to get Runesmith levels (from races of stone, slightly nerfed since its a lowpower game) and later on Elditch Knight ... Basicly a walking piece of armor (insane craft Armorsmithing and craft magical arms and armor ... i make it myself) with a enchanted Dwarven Waraxe (just as insane craft weaponsmithing, i make it myself again) cleaning the floor together with the other fighters ... and throwing relatively nasty spells around when weapon doesn't seem to work or the enemies is to far away and is done buffing allready
