In the (non-FR, sniff) solo campaign I currently play in, I am Samanar Diamande (NE human fighter 1 / warlock 2), who also happens to be the reincarnation (me and the DM decided to restart the campaign, as it was in the *very* formative years of his campaign world) of my favorite character.

The guy is a psychopathic biggot and liar (who is naturally not so foolish as to openly appear so) who also harbors delusions of grandeur to it's empire-building extreme. You always fight people like this in D&D, but when do you play someone like them?

got two characters at the moment

in a non-FR game i have a Female Half-Elf Beguiler (ending up as CN i guess) who doesn't do much else than try to keep away from the fight since she can't do any damage even if her life depended on it (been there done that ... lousy strength)

my FR character (in victor's game) is an Dwarven Envoker, late semiforgotten heir of the shattered Ammarindar kingdom below and around Graypeaks, and his greatest wish is to get strong enough to clean the forgotten halls of Ammarindar out and restablising the kingdom.

I'm playing a homebrewed campaign with a level 5 Elven (Half Drow) monk. The half drow is purely for looks and roleplay. I wanted a character that would be a challenge to play due to dislike by the general public. She is all the fun i could expect, and I am constantly having to roleplay the character out of situations.

My other character is a lawful good Dwarven Wizard. He didnt start Lawful good, but the roleplay and circumstances of the campaign turned him into a regular holy roller. He is a lot of fun.

my current characters are:

Memnoch the Exiled, a LG Duergar Fighter 9 who was cast out of his clan when he was barely able to walk for a now unknown transgretion. we was "taken in" by a LE Shield Dwarf and brought up as a slave, if a favorite one, in Skullport. he is sworn to faithfully serve the dwarf as his rightful master, untill death takes one or the other. he is his masters pride and joy, and a champion gladiator. he has recently been having doubts about himself and his role in life; the roaring crowds and the joys of battle are getting to him.

Raal Aryden is a wild elf Warmage who was betrayed by his mercenary company. he now seeks to build his own merc company to fight back against the more morally bankrupt companies in the realms.

My last character was Demetri Swiftblade, a part time pirate, full time stage actor who just so happened to get taken on an adventure when a certain group of heroes rescued him from an angry crowd.

Now he is a full time adventurer who has given up on his acting career and tries not to pillage and burn [i]too[i/] much, well...at least, when his friends aren't around.

And if the PCs DO win their ways through all the liches to Larloch, “he” will almost certainly be just another lich (loaded with explosive spells) set up as a decoy, with dozens of hidden liches waiting to pounce on any surviving PCs who ‘celebrate’ after they take Larloch down. As the REAL Larloch watches (magical scrying) from afar. Myself, as DM, I’d be wondering: “Such a glorious game, so many opportunities laid out before your PCs to devote your time to, and THIS fixation is the best you can come up with? Are you SURE you’re adventurers?” -Ed Greenwood

I have 2 characters but neither are being used at the moment.

First is a cleric half elf 13th level

Second is my favourite character which is a drow cleric CG 9th level. She has seen most of her party die but still manages to intergrate herself in other parties lol. I use her now as a NPG when I DM

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I cannot accept, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those people I had to kill today because they pissed me off.

I'm playing this character in a Play by Post game set in Amn: Level 1 male half-orc cleric of Chauntea, LG, hails from Puskul. Strong recessive human genes give him a more strongly human appearance than the garden variety half-orc described in PHB, eg, his hair is blond and his skin pigmentation human. However there is absolutely no mistaking his orc blood. I'll be dual-classing him to rogue, since he has been tasked by his church to solve a particular mystery for which the only clue points toward investigating any subterranean ruins he may find. He belongs to a Chauntean 'Pastoral' sect that regards civilization as a divine instrument to bring forth the Earthmother's bounty. Intensely rejects the tendency for chaos, evil, and wanton destruction found in his orc ancestors. Strives to quietly demonstrate by example to Amn's racially bigoted society that half-orcs are capable of being every bit as civilized as humans. Eager to study history and maps as part of his quest.

I as some of you will know am in the middle of creating a new character (with a bit of help) check out the scroll: Playing and Creating an Utter Evil Character. Lend a hand if you want, creating a evil char is a first for me and I usually use 2e not 3.5e.

By the way he's a bit sick and twisted so You Have Been Warned.

We are setting him up for a hugh Fall from Grace.

Starting as a Very Devout Paladin (though with a very troubled past) twisting and corupting his mind and ending up as a Fallen Angel Paladin / Blackguard or simular.

At the moment we are starting him at 5th Lvl just at the point of Falling.... well read up and comment

hmm ... been playing with my ½elf Beguiler lately and she turned out to be a very funny character ... she is the kind of person that is very spontaneous and intuitive ... one minute she is able to get everyone to believe that she is a noble from far away (funny thing is even that it was one of the other characters that told the cityguard that he was her bodyguard) ... the other minute she can go up and change and then act completely like one of the local whores ... everything is free game for her if it serves her game ... if she can get an advantage (i.e interesting infomation) from going out hireing herself out as a whore ... she'll do it ... if she can get an advantage from playing a noble (maybe even one of the nobles from the city due to her spells) ... she'll do that ... without feeling the slightest guilt of doing it

My new character is Indü a paladin of Torm. During our first session we started in the desert of Anauroch. We made contact with a bedine tribe, buyed a few camels and are on our way to the city of daggerfalls. My comrades are my "sisters" (not in blood but we are adopted) a druid and a bard.

With only three characters it's pretty hard gaming. We've got only one battle yet and it was pretty hard. A few desert heyena's attacked the party and nearly killed Indü by their combined attacks. Indü's dagger saved his life, he slashed the throat of one of the beast when he was lying under him.

and a warning for everyone who starts or want to go in the dessert !! Sandstorms can be very iritating :p :p

You could multiclass and take some monk levels, hey? ;)

I used to play a halfling cleric of Istus back in the olden days, as we were exploring the Temple of Elemental Evil. After a while I got really fed up with constant requests that I should choose more healing spells each day (as you all know, clerics couldn't convert spells to healing in AD&D). I began to ask my fellow adventurers that they thank Istus each time I healed them (knowing that this would rattle some of the players and their characters). I would even ask them to participate in prayers and daily rituals.

One of the players (who eventually left the group) finally said (out of character): "Hey! You're the cleric and your role is to HEAL, not preach! Save that to the monsters and NPCs! You're a healing machine, so you should heal my character for saving your character's ass!". I replied in character: "It seems that your FATE is to be wounded every day for your recklessness. If Istus has deemed your fate to be so, I cannot heal you against her will." :)

"What am I doing today? Ask me tomorrow - I can be sure of giving you the right answer then."

In one FR campaign I play a North-Eastern Tethyrian druid who is a devotee of Malar, though he doesnt quite know it. He venerates what he calls the beast within and believes it lies within all souls. He believes all souls must learn to master(not control) the beast or they will continually be its slave.

He performs little tests with the other party members to get them to see their own fragility and their own survival instinct so they can tap into the beast within. He never utters the word "Malar" except in the most secret moments deep within the wild, it always by channelling the beast within himself and all others that he is able to perform "magic".

Oh, he just happens to be from a clan of Loup-de-Noirs aswell so every now and then, he has to let the beast off its chain and tap into his bloodlust.

The other character I play in a Elkhazar campaign. He is a vanilla peasant hero warrior who is in an adventuring company with a Tormatar crusader, a forge-priest of Moradin, two bards that continually get in trouble, a crazy elementalist mage, a dwarven beast-master and a fat merchant rogue from Waterdeep. His name is the same as my forum handle.

Just started back up with this guy. As my players decided they didn't want to play my Unapproachable East campaign. So one of the player's is going to renew a campaign we stopped playing a couple of years ago.

Well here he is.

Khalan Del Armgo of House Barrison Del Armgo 2nd House of Menzoberranzan
Classes: Fighter-Rogue-Kyorlin Velve-Divine Seeker(Kyorlin velve is a drow asassin type PRC from Tom Costa's vaunted Prestige in the realms)
Levels: 5-1-8-1
Race: Drow
Sex: Male
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Patron: Vhaerun
Personality: Cold (except when it comes to his twin sister) Calculating plays every angle to his advantage
Description:While he didn't inherit his father's bulk he did gain his height standing an undrowlike height of 6' with a lean body weighing in at 165 lbs. He keeps his ivory colored hair long and tied back in a braid that comes down towards the center of his back. His amber colored eyes are rarity among his people and they are usually the last thing a person sees before he stabs a blade into their belly. He moves with an uncanny grace even among drow. He dresses in simple clothing in dark colors to help him blend in to the shadows that are his profession.

Background:

Khalan is one of the many children sired by the prized stud Uthgental of House Barrison Del Armgo his mother was Thalis a daughter of Matron Mez'Barris. Thalis was an extremely average drow for a noble much to the the chagrin of her mother. So it was no great loss when Thalis died in child birth while delivering Khalan and his twin sister Mythn'ri. As two nobles for the price of one was deemed a paltry sacrifice (even if one was a male).

Growing up it was quickly determined Khalan would not inherit his sire's bulk or psychotic personality. The boy was however quick, rather intelligent, and displayed supreme confidence. He was trained first as a warrior where proved to be a competent but not outstanding warrior.

After Uthgental was slain in the ill fated attack on Mithral Hall MezBarris took a young and handsome house mage as her next Patron. This male was soon seduced into joining a minor noble house and left House Barrison Del Armgo. Furious the Matron set her forces against these upstarts and smashed the house. During the battle is where Khalan showed his true calling. On the attack the young Khalan easily slipped through the house's defences and killed both the matron and the her lover as they were directing the defences.

After this success he was sent Melee-Magethere to be trained as a Kyorlin Velve. He excelled in his training and graduated in near record time. Meanwhile his twin was beginning to develop strange powers (psionics) that the Matron had no idea how to perfect or control. So a Mindflayer ally of the House was brought in to train the young female in her powers. The mibdflayers training and her considerable talent shot her to a position in the House that belied her age.

Upon his graduation from Melee-Magethere Khalan was quickly put to work as a House Assasin. He never failed in the tasks given to him by the Matron. He quickly rose the ranks of the males of the house. After elimnating a rising star among the priestesses of House Baerne he was granted the title of Vanorik Barra "Silent Shadow"

After gaining his title he soon grew restless with his position and began to resent the domination of the house females. He saw himself as only a tool to his female kin and realized he would never rise any higher in the house no matter how skilled he became at his craft.
Despite his feelings towards females he still felt a bond he could not explain to his twin. He relieved some of his boredom with his position by quietly eliminating any threat within or outside the house that threatened her rise to power.

Mythn'ri always was deemed soft but they had no idea of the sins she had commited against the Spider Queen. The young Psioncist hated everything Lolth stood for and soon turned her worship to Elistraee. She used her powers to hide her blasphemous thoughts from the clerics of the House. Mez'barris began to see the power the youngster was beginning to manifest and the meteoric rise up the ranks of the House and she began to worry a bit. She remembered what the power that psionics could do with the hated fallen Hoouse Obladra So she had the illithid that trained Myth'ri keep a subtle watch on her.

Mere months after this the House had a High Ritual fail. Throughly shaken Mez Barris summoned a yolchol and asked what Del Armgo had done to offend Lolth. The demon answered "ask the illithid that serves your house!" Mez Barris quickly summoned the mindflayer to her throne room and asked the question to him. The illithid replied in her mind two words Mythn'ri and Ellistrae. With a scream of rage Mez Barris summoned her House Guard and the mindflayer to attend her as she hunted for heretic granddaughter. She found Mythn'ri falsely praying to Lolth in House chapel.
Mythn'ri was quickly taken down by the illithid and House Guard and taken to the dungeons for torture and preparation to be sacrificed to Lolth.

Word quickly spread throughout the house of Mythn'ri's fall. Upon hearing the dire news Khalan cursed his sister for her stupidity and his own for tying his fate to hers. He tried to leave her to her fate but a strange feeling overcame the assasin............. love. Without another thought he quickly decided he was going to free his sister. He used his skills to spring her from her bonds killing a few House Guards in the process. With his talents with a blade and her psionics they quickly made their way from the House but not before combining their talents and killing the traitorous Mindflayer

Upon hitting the streets of Menzoberranzan they hid out in the slums for a few weeks. Khalan then used his contacts to arrange a meeting with the leader of Bregan d Aerth Kimmuriel Obladra. Always looking for more talent Kimmuriel was intrigued with adding another psion to the group and a killer Khalan's reputation and skill was a windfall as well

Upon request they were given missions on the surface to more easily avoid House Barrison Del Armgo's wrath. Khalan was sent to Skullport where he was to act as a spy and freelance assasin with a front as a slaver from a minor drow city. While there he was put under the command of a priest of Vhaerun named Qualinthos Agroth who turned him to the worship of his deity. Myhtn'ri was sent to Vassa to help with guild's assimilation of the Citadel of Asassins. After the takeover of the surface group she vanished.
Khalan was then recalled from Skullport and told to find his sister. If she had left Bregan D Aerth he was told either to bring her back into the fold or kill her. Months later he tracked her down in Cormanthor where she convinced him to leave Bregan D Aerth and join the surface group of adventurers she had befriended. As the only thing he really wanted was to be with his sister he reluctantlly agreed.

The group had many adventures including going through the meatgrinder module City of The Spider Queen and is now currently in Waterdeep awaiting a mission from Laeral Siverhand Arunson.

Here is some of Khalan's signature items.

"Spider's Kiss" +3 Wounding Shyrlass (drow perfected rapier from Tom Costa's Prestige in The Realms)that upon a successful sneak attack releases a poison that paralyzes it's victim (DC 20 Fortitude Based) it also confers the abilities of a Cloak of the White Spider. He was given this blade by Mezbarris upon his graduation form Melee-Magethere

Vhaerun's Embrace +3 Keen Shyrlass grants the wielder (as long his patron is Vhaerun) the following abilities: Daylight Adaptation as a bonus feat, alter self at will and a +5 to all hide, move silent and tumble checks. This blade was given to him by his mentor in Bregan D' Aerth Qualinthos Agroth a priest of Vhaerun. Seeing the potential in the young killer he turned to the worship of Vhaerun. After proving his worth by killing a paticularly bothersome priestess of Lolth in Skullport he was given this blade as a reward to the faithful.

"Auril's Fang" +2 Dagger Spellblade grant's the user immunity to the spell Searing Ray. Khalan took this blade as his share of the loot from a fang dragon's horde.

"Hunter's Shadow" +3 Shadowed,Slick,Glamered, Silent Mithral Breastplate This armor was taken from a cleric of Shevarash that was hunting Khalan. Whom he turned the tables on by stalking ambushing and eventually killing the priest. Taking the armor for himself as the armor's enchantments are very useful in his profession. But it has also marked him as a special foe of the clergy of Shevarash.

"Boots of the Hunt" Combines the powers of Boots of Striding and Springing and Boots of Elvenkind These were also gained from the cleric

The character Mythn'ri is played by one of the other players. We will be exploring more in depth our character's relationship with each other in repect of our following of deities that are enemies.

my character:
olithir talandren: male moon elf fighter1/wizard1/elf paragon3/bladesinger5*
alignment: chaotic neutral with good tenancies
patron(s):mystra & sehaine moonbow
personality: a tactical mastermind who calculates his every action and prefers to be alone
description: olithir is a moon elf of average height with long, raven black hair. his most striking features are his eyes, they are midnight blue with specks of silver. he moves with a fluid grace not often seen even among the tel'quessir. he usually dresses in neutral colors and wears clothing of simple design but elegant cut and make usually with embroidery of leaves and branches.
*im using the bladesinger from the elven netbook on wizards boards

I'd take precision any day over power; as far as being tactical you know you have to see what's going on in there and also understand that for every punch that you or your opponent throws there's always a counter shot or two which you have to be ready to fire or defend.

My character is Okano Michiko (Kozakuran female, LG, Wu jen 4/Swordsage 1/jade phoenix mage 1), she is the deva of earth in our Legend of the four devas campaign set in Kara-Tur. All the characters in this campaign was killed in the first session, but got the option to be reincarnated into new bodies if they accepted the mantle of the four devas. The deva is sort of a template that grants new powers as we progresses, and many of the powers are cooperative between the various devas, the devas are the deva of life, the deva of heaven, the deva of death and the deva of earth. Our job is to ensure that the right souls goes to the right death gods when they perish into the spirit world. We can also claim souls for ourselves if we fear that they would somehow upset the balance between the various death gods(There are appereantly thousands of those in Kozakura). So far we have stopped an evil warlord from taking over a small fishing village and assassinating an important lord. I have also died again (Killed by a death god)and been reborn as a jade phoenix mage.

I would not multiclass to druid if I was you: instead, check out the gnome ranger substitution levels in Races of Stone. If you chose giants or humanoid (goblinoid) or humanoid (reptilian) as favored enemies you get +3 to dmg/skills instead of the usual +2. Your animal companion is also stronger at level 4, and you get more spells too... (the level 4 animal companion boost is so significant that if stacked with Natural Bond feat from Complete Adventurer, WILL make any druid jealous of you! )

Currently playing K'rikk, a non-psionic Thri-Kreen Ranger 2/Swordsage 3. Thanks to the insane jump checks (+45 to Jump) and claw focus he really excells in abusing the Tiger Claw school. Throw in some Permanencied Greater Magic Fang, and he really screams for blood. :D Just returned from retrieving an artifact for a secret organization...

Prior to that was Aryante, Cleric of Labelas Enoreth 5/Swift Wing 5. May I add that the Time domain is rather amazing? :D He's currently off with his party destroying undead - campaign on permanent hiatus since the DM wasn't getting enough time with his girlfriend. He continues to play in my Thursday campaign that I DM though.

Prior to THAT was 'Cloud', an Air Genasi Duskblade 6. Due to that DM's work constraints he is currently on permanent hiatus somewhere in Mysteries of the Moonsea, still weilding his monkey-gripped large greatsword...

And finally, prior to THAT was Calen Darkchylde, Ranger 6/Fighter 2/Dragon Devotee 2. That was my first PC, and the only one I've run in a non-Realms campaign. The DM closed the FLGS he ran for nearly 20 years, and thus died the campaign in the middle of the Vault of Larin-Kar...

Sadly, K'rikk is fated for permanent hiatus as well, as that DM is going back to school to finish his education. Next up is Return to Undermountain, where I'll be playing a Drow Factotum using the 20-level drow class from Drow of the Underdark.

I have to characters at the moment. One is a former thief/assassin from Luskan turned actor who is now traveling around with a company of actors (he naturally has to play the bad guy in the plays - he just has the looks ) and the other is a young gold elf, a dragon rider-to-be who is always afraid of failing in the eyes of his very stern and conservative father + plus his young bronze dragen Gundulyna whose pranks just drive the poor guy mad

I'm lucky enough to be playing in two FR games right now (both play-by-post).

In the first, I'm playing Carfal, a half-orc cleric of Deneir:

Twenty-three years ago, a child was born to the heiress of a prestigious noble family in southwestern Sembia. Unfortunately, it was a half-orc child, and, needless to say, the resident nobles were not of orcish extraction. So, in short order, the family's half-orc stable-slave was executed, and the tearful heiress shipped off to a Lathanderite convent. But what of the child? Well, as none of the men-folk could bring themselves to kill the pitiable wretch, they had a servant, under cover of night, shuttle the infant to the steps of the nearest thing resembling a charitable institution: a temple of Deneir.

The resident priests took the boy in, and raised him as best they could, through a combination of awkward paternalism and pedantic instruction in the tenets of Oghma's Scribe, as well as all manner of history and lore. Raised within the temple walls, the boy, whom the clerics named Carfal, came to consider them his family, and developed a concomitant devotion to doing the work of Deneir.

In fulfilling their charge to preserve as much information as possible, the temple’s scribes regularly record the news carried by itinerant bards and merchants. Some months ago, rumors began arriving of strange activity in the Dalelands, seemingly in relation to a mysterious sigil. Even more unnerving was the fact that, once a reliable description of this symbol was obtained, it was soon realized that the temple’s own adopted son bore such a mark! A flurry of research followed, whereupon the sigil’s draconic origin was uncovered. Seeing that further investigation was clearly in order, Carfal volunteered to travel to the Dales himself to get to the root of the matter. It is, literally, quite personal to him…
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
In the second, Presmer Zorastryl, a Halruaan Wizard:

As any Halruaan schoolchild can tell you, that nation was founded by Netherese refugees fleeing the fallout of Karsus’s folly – oh, and also some people who already lived in the area, but never mind that now. While it is assumed that most Halruaans have at least some Netherese heritage, few have made so fastidious a study of it as Presmer Zorastryl.

Born into a prosperous family of vintners from the coastal city of Khaerbaal, Presmer grew up in the relative comfort and privilege common to most of that magic-rich land. From his earliest school days, he developed a particular love of ancient histories, those dealing with the vanished wonders of High Netheril most of all, and would spend hours poring over accounts of that civilization’s arts and culture, as well as its methods of artifice and spellcasting. This historical preoccupation was no passing fancy – on the contrary, as he matured, Presmer came to regard the glories of Netheril as the birthright of every Halruaan, and determined to once again make them a reality.

Like many reformists, his vision led him inevitably into politics. Eventually rising through the local bureaucracy to become advisor to the city’s absentee governor, Grozalum, he said farewell to Khaerbaal and relocated to his new home in the capital city of Halarahh. Presmer doesn’t care much for political life, finding it simultaneously frustrating and endlessly boring, but he still sees ensuring the nation’s continued prosperity as the best way to foster the progress of magical understanding toward the standard held in the distant past. He tries not to let the complacency of his peers in this regard discourage his efforts, though he has become increasingly curmudgeonly over the years.

To that end, Presmer still spends a good deal of his free time researching ancient spellcraft lore, attempting to put long-lost theories into practice (with modest success). Day-to-day administrative duties take up more time than he’d like, however, and he is periodically sent on low-level diplomatic assignments abroad. These latter, at least, provide opportunities to acquire new magics or rare historical treatises. Most recently, his superiors have sent him to address some small matter in Calimshan. The details were a bit vague, but he trusts there will be a briefing upon his arrival. And in the meantime, he is quite eager to scour the bookseller’s stalls in the bazaar…

The most recent character I got to play in the Forgotten Realms was (sorry for the long post; but I love this character and wanted to share):

Kaern “Stormraven”

Kaern was born only 28 years ago in the city of Luskan (current year 1375); the bastard son of a minor mageling of the Arcane Brotherhood named Kierra. Thought to be the son of some ship captain or another, Kaern grew up in the City of Luskan wherever his mother kept him. He stayed in many whore houses as a youth as his mother often frequented such places herself because of often pendulous fortunes within the Brotherhood that forced her into the selling of her body to make ends meet. By the time Kaern was only 8 years of age however, he was the size of many smaller men and so was allowed to become apprenticed to his mother inside the Host Tower of the Arcane.
Things changed little for his mother however; she eventually angered her last master so greatly that she was fed to the wyverns of Overwizard Eltuth Oyim when Kaern was 14 years old. Only a minor wizard at the time, barely in control of cantrips, Kaern was not welcome back in the Host Tower as even an apprentice. His anger toward the wizards was great, but he instead decided to make the best of things by hiring onto a ship as a crewman. The ship he served on was a dragonship under the command of none other than current High Captain Suljack.
For three years Kaern served as a lowly deckhand, all the while growing into a stout and tall Illuskan Reaver by the time he had reached 17 years of age. His minor use of magic fulfilled several needs for him (especially when Captain Suljack needed magical writings read), and eventually a minor spellbook fell into his hands from a looted ship. Using a spell he learned from the book (Charm Person) quite often, he actually amassed enough money to purchase another empty book and scribed all the spells he had into it. Selling the second book to a minor wizard of the Arcane Brotherhood in return for further lessons brought him once again into the ranks of the wizards of the Host Tower.
Kaern’s hulking size at 18 years of age actually made him desired by many within the Arcane Brotherhood as an apprentice/bodyguard; but the more powerful wizards soon found out about his days as a Reaver and decided his skills could be put to better use as a representative upon the ships of Luskan. Angered greatly at this reversal, Kaern again simply decided to make the best of his situation.
For five years Kaern served aboard various ships, and found to his great surprise that his thirst for knowledge was easily satisfied when many books and tomes crossed his path as booty to be sent to the Host Tower. His ability to first study these materials quickly brought him much knowledge and power among the people of Luskan. Many ship captains paid him handsomely to choose their ships so that his magic could be used against their enemies. Several times one captain or another would even pay him to assassinate rival captains while at sea; Kaern easily accomplished this many times, with none ever knowing he had done so. The result of these actions often placed him in charge of the now leaderless ship, and Kaern’s abilities as a ship captain and sailor only increased on these occasions.
Eventually Kaern tired of simply being the “representative” of the Host Tower aboard ships however, and convinced the Overwizard of the West Tower to make him a ship captain in his own right so that the Arcane Brotherhood could be more fully in control of a ship to do its will. Five years ago, Kaern was given command of a simple Keelboat to use in missions for the Brotherhood; but Kaern used it as an opportunity to gain his own loyal and strong following within both the city’s ship captains as well as the Arcane Brotherhood. Kaern “Stormraven” came to be known as a very worthy ship captain among the Reavers of Luskan, and many of the finest sailors hired on to his ship; despite the fact he didn’t even have a dragonship. His frequently generous rewards, such as keeping no booty for himself and dividing it equally among the crew instead, has ensured a very faithful crew. Even his first mate, now often in total control of the ship, calls Kaern his “big brother” and the rest of the crew feels the same way. They know he brooks no dissention or traitorous actions however. Anyone caught stealing from others, lying to Kaern or his officers or spying is immediately executed and his goods sold for coin to be split among his peers. Those trying to incriminate a fellow crewman falsely are given over to the Arcane Brotherhood for magical experimentation. Through fairness and firmness, Kaern has very loyal men.
When the fleet of Luskan attempted to destroy the fleet of Lantan, Kaern easily shifted his attention away from the sea and onto land to avoid the disaster he knew would come. He sabotaged his own ship, condemned his crew to months of shore duty while it was fixed, and even went “searching for crucial information that the Brotherhood needs” far into the interior of the mainland so that he could avoid the fate that befell so many of his people in the devastation visited upon the city’s fleet.
Kaern focused on many ancient ruins at this time, taking with him a band of adventurers from Luskan to aid in his dungeon delving (now all dead except for Lom, the Son of Drom). The fringes of the Great Desert were his stomping ground and it was here that he learned of many more ancient tomes that he first studied and then took back to the Host Tower. His magical power grew a great deal more during this time, as did his knowledge of how to craft magical items. Kaern spent many months adventuring all over the North to uncover even the most obscure (and sometimes irrelevant) information. His first dealings with giants, orcs and other monsters often went well; and to this day he maintains at least passing contact with some few individual Hill Giant, Ogre and Orc Chiefs he has some plans for in the future.
When the Archmage Arcane was forced from the Host Tower, Kaern again disappeared into the interior of the North or far to sea to avoid the infighting of the Brotherhood. An ever cautious man outside of combat, Kaern wanted no part in so chaotic a situation. During this time he spent many months in the creation of magic items for his use, hired himself to adventurers as a Sage concerning matters on the North, Giants, Dragons, Humanoids and matters Arcane, worked as an honest merchant from Luskan to Waterdeep, helped the High Captains rebuild the city’s fleet and even traveled to the far lands of Thay where he learned of tattoo magic from a renegade Red Wizard.
With the return of the Archmage Arcane and his purging of the Arcane Brotherhood, Kaern has returned to Luskan on a more permanent basis. Had he been more directly involved in the return to power of the Archmage Arcane, he no doubt would have been chosen as Overwizard of the North Tower; but his frequent absences counted too strongly against him. For the time being, he is content to follow the directions of someone he considers beneath him in power (actually his equal, but she is an elf after all), but is ever wary of causing mayhem within the ranks of the Brotherhood at this time until he can be sure of Arklem Greeth’s mental disposition and true power now that he has attained Lichdom; not to mention to what extent he has control over the Devils he has allied with.
The High Captains recently rewarded Kaern with a Captains Ring of Luskan (equal to a Circlet of Persuasion) for his efforts to help rebuild the Navy of Luskan. High Captain Suljack has even called Kaern a “friend” on more than one occasion; but such honorifics are dubious in Luskan. Kaern’s name is somewhat well known to even the common people of Luskan, and absolutely known by the Arcane Brotherhood and the military forces of the city. He is sometimes called before Arklem Greeth in person, and on such occasions he is always totally honest with the Lich and holds nothing back at all; and it is for this reason that he often reports to the Lich instead of the Overwizard of the North Tower. The Archmage Arcane knows that Kaern keeps the “best” information for him and so uses Kaern as a deterrent against treachery by Overwizard Valindra Shadowmantle; often comparing notes between the two to make sure they match up.
Surprisingly, for a Ship Captain of Luskan and Arcane Brotherhood member, Kaern has few enemies; though his rivals can be counted by knowing how many members of the Arcane Brotherhood there are. If Kaern has any enemies they are either at the bottom of Umberlee’s bosom or laying broken and skeletal in some distant land; he leaves no enemy behind to haunt him at a later time. It is a known fact that Kaern “Stormraven” pursues enemies until they are dead; often being so single-minded about it that he is distracted from more pressing matters. In general his enemies would be any that count themselves enemies of the Arcane Brotherhood or the City of Luskan.
Kaern’s allies are even fewer however. Only his ship crew does he trust with little hesitation; with perhaps his spy and assassin, Lom the Son of Drom, being trusted even more than his “family” of Reavers. Associates are many however: Greeth, Suljack and the other High Captains and perhaps the other members of the Arcane Brotherhood (though he would trust none of them with his boots for shining). The many whores of Luskan rarely know which will be chosen by Kaern because he thinks it unsafe to choose a single concubine that could turn on him later. Kaern has never sired children from any of these unions, taking precautions to never sire inferior stock.
As an aside, Kaern did find out eventually who his father was: the minor ship captain known as Bjor of Luskan. Kaern killed him three years ago, took his body out to sea, had his crew cut it to pieces and promptly fed it to the sharks. The massive man, nearly seven feet tall, never even knew what hit him and Kaern never said a word as he blasted the man in the chest with spell after spell until he was dead.
Most recently Kaern has been working with agents hired by the Host Tower of the Arcane (through Kaern) to sail Rauthym to uncover an artifact (not sure if it is an artifact, or just a powerful magic item). He has lost several of his crew to an attack by sea-elven vampire spawn, but so far the journey is going well.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Kaern's physical Description:

At first glance, none would consider Kaern a wizard. His 6’6” tall frame is naturally muscled and athletic, though somewhat hunched from a lifetime of stooping under doorways and being bent over books and overly thin from lack of proper exercise and nourishment after many years of study. His clean shaven and heavily tattooed head (with the tattoos often varying in appearance from day to day) is even paler than the typical native of Luskan; and the tightly drawn face frames a cruel face of grim aspect with steely grey eyes framed by bushy black brows. Surmounting his head is a steel circlet with a large garnet gemstone inlaid with a raven carved of jet; his personal symbol. Long fingered hands end in nearly talon-like nails that clutch at all times a heavy driftwood staff of over seven feet in length. His right hand is adorned with a Captains Ring of Luskan, noting him as an important man within that city. His left hand wears a barely noticeable copper band with runes signifying light and protection.
Kaern’s heavy navy blue robe with deep folds and deeper hood is made of the finest linen; but it is badly frayed along the edges. True Seeing would reveal the robe to be in perfect condition however, its magic is used by Kaern to make them look more “common” to others. Kaern wears heavily furred boots and breeches of supple leather; but goes bare-chested save for his robe. His forearms are covered in leather bracers that hold a dagger in each. A large dagger, nearly the size of a shortsword, is always worn on his left hip; attached to a heavy black leather belt that cinches his robe around his waste. On his right side is a large satchel that to him appears only as a belt pouch because of his size. Tucked into an inner pouch of his left sleeve is a flawless heavy metal sphere of blackened iron that he often toys with in his hand.

As you can probably tell, this campaign is sort of unrealistic as far as character statistics goes; but we all wanted to play a "Hero Level" game. Kaern is the sort of wizard I normally don't play; but I've actually had a great time playing what amounts to an espionage/pirate wizard.

I have nearly as much fun playing Lom the Son of Drom...a dwarven assassin geared toward killing spell casters is kinda cool fun!

I am planning to use Kaern as the baddie in my next Forgotten Realms campaign set in the North.

The Old Grey Box and AD&D for me!

A 13th level straight Dwarven fighter and a 24th fighter/3rd lengendary dreadnaught. He was a dwarf until around 17th level then a misworded wish left him as a human that looks almost like a human sized dwarf. He wanted to be able to use his Hammer of Thunderbolts correctly as he wasnt tall enough as a dwarf,LOL.I never really meant him to be but after all this time he has turned into the tank of tanks. He often fights two handed with the Hammer of thunderbolts(gauntlets and girdel) in one hand and a Ax of Hurling in the other. I really like these two characters...

I remember playing Dwarves and Elves as a character class...

Braccas Orc Scorcher. A halfling orphaned on the steps of Mystra's church in Waterdeep. Raised by the church he came to embrace all of Mystra's teachings as well as a deep communion with all magic.

Favored Soul of Mystra 3/Warmage 2 heading towards Mystic Theurge.
