... at random? That could be inconvenient at best in some situations. Just think, there you are, in your room, wooing a beautious barmaid, you reach over to grab a carafe of fine red wine, push the book off the bed, and *BOOM* 3 Hound Archons appear above the bed with flaming swords and all.

| Yes, many thanks to you Spree. That sounds like a very, very powerful MAJOR artifact. I should love to find it. |

I should think that it would be a 45% chance of summoning hound archons when you are actively trying, not at random. |

Finally!!!
There was a brutal battle, much bloodshed, and some very inventive spellcasting on my part but we have some information!
The Squaligue is a magical tome created by our DM. It is a minor artifact of a forgotten goddess of Law and Justice in our campaign. The artifact must be carried specifically in the right arm and opened to function.
When it is the following occurs: 1. +3 to Int 2. +3 to Wis 3. All Divination and Evocation spells add 4 to their DC 4. The tome acts as a ring of spell storing for 5th level spells. 5. There is a constant 20 foot aura of truth around the open tome. DC 27 6. The holder of the tome has a 45% chance of summoning 1d3 Hound Archons. 7. The holder of the tome functions under the effects of true sight with 120 foot range. 8. The tome can perform a legend lore once a day. 9. Three unique spells are available from the tome. No details yet. 10. The holder can communicate with any living being with an Int of 3 or higher. There are disadvantages to having the tome. 1. The holder can cast no Necromancy or Illusion spells. 2. The holder receives no benefit to any Necro or Illusion spells. 3. The holder cannot lie or twist the truth. 4. The holder must perform a quest that benefits the goddess.
The DM has hinted that there is more to this artifact and it may even gain more power based on the results of the quest.
Interestingly enough there have been some talks with the church of Tyr who are interested in acquiring the tome... The party has not responded. Also there is the matter of the shadow dragon that got away and the archwizard that commanded it....
Guess that's another story for another day.
Thank you again Candlekeep posters for your help!
...and what level are you guys anyway?
We are all (6 of us) 19 earned levels. I have to agree about the minor artifact part. This is major. Our DM really thought outside the box on this item...
Of course, nobody will open it up again. We are too scared. The time it was opened, the party member was quested to defeat the shadow dragon and company to restore a lost temple. |

So can we still put him in the room, for tormenting us so? Or was the Shadow Dragon punishment enough?
Glad to find out what it is finally. Nice item, but definately should be a Major Artifact. |

Keep in mind that it has to be held in the right arm to work. Your thinking may have been why the DM designed it that way? |

| That sounds like something that my not so intelligent half orc barbarian would open on a dare from one of the rangers in our group who likes to keep things interesting. Silly ranger. Excellent item! |
If the rest of humanity were only as smart as my familiar...... |
