It wasn't used in the main box set, so what WOTC wrote is made up. :)
Okay, thanks perhaps it´s better that they stick to all those "empty" rooms instead trying to come up with "updated" versions of the old ones?
I'd rather see the previously undescribed rooms described, instead of poor rehashes of lore that's already in print.
Even better, I'd like to see real updates to Undermountain, like the ones in Dragon mentioned earlier in this thread. And it'd be truly awesome if they were written by someone like Steven Schend, who really understands Undermountain. |

I try to channel the "spirit" of the Realms to my players to the best of my ability, since Ed truly seems to be immune to my mind-reading attempts
I think that when Ed gives us glimpses of Realmslore he is trying to say something like: "Look, you can come up with anything if you use your imagination - your campaign is about your vision of the Realms. Half-elven dwellings are called ´arndils´ in Sembia. Is it ´official´ if I just made it up?" etcetera. Shamefully I must admit that still I keep pestering Ed for more Realmslore, although I could just come up with details myself

I don't think you're the only one in that category. Some expanded material on Undermountain would definitely be a welcome addition to 3e FR. And if Sage Schend was responsible for it... ...

You may see an update to a certain heretofore undetailed section of Undermountain sooner than you think.

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Believe it or not, I wasn't trying to be flip -- hence, no emoticons after my post.
My point was that if a locale has never before been described, then there is nothing to update. I wasn't being a joker, I was wondering about the choice of words and if I was missing something. |

So that I could beat the trans-atlantics to it, despite sleeping in late? |

So I thought I'd give my thoughts on the three winning entries...
The Undead Wish (EL Varies) -- I really like the idea of the imprisoned efreet, and what Halaster did to him. I like the idea of the curst -- there's something intriguing about curst, in general, though I do have to wonder at this one's low mental attributes.
Somehow, though, the two ideas just don't seem to merge into one cohesive idea.
The Auditorium (EL 12) -- This one is kind of a unique idea, and I like the concept of the room. I don't care for the execution of it, though. I'm not sure what I'd've done differently with a similar idea, but this one comes off as flat, to me. I just can't see it as being interesting, the way it's presented. It's like "Ho-hum, another layered magical trap. Sigh."
I actually forgot what this one was, until I skimmed over it again. That's how non-interesting it was, to me. But, I will say, I thought the "Now I'll never get that song out of my head!" bit was a nice touch.
The Temple of Fortune's Rebirth (EL 11) -- This was my favorite of the lot. I'd change a couple of things, though. I'd drop the whole "trying to bring back Tyche" element, as I think that's a bit ambitious for mortals.
And I'd drop the Netherese language for something else. Though we don't know when, exactly, Tyche was split into Beshaba and Tymora, we do know when the schism in Tyche's church happened -- and it was more than a thousand years after the fall of Netheril. Also, Netheril fell about 600 years before Halaster took over Undermountain, which further makes it unlikely that it was Netherese. So I'd make the guys that made the temple be from somewhere else.
The rest of the room description is good, though -- particularly the idea of the coin. And the cult of dead gods offers some interesting possibilities, even without the "bring back Tyche" flavor. |

I agree with you re the Temple of Fortune's Rebirth. It was the only entry that had decent realmslore included in it.
Oh, and if I ever find the game designer who wrote that the "Dawn Cataclysm heralded the fall of Myth Drannor" they're going to get a piece of my mind. BTW, the Dawn Cataclysm happened sometime between -255 DR and 1 DR.

Hey, now... I wasn't by my computer. I was doing something more important: reading City of Splendors.
Though... I'm wondering at the delay. We usually get the new lore on Tuesday night. |
