Wood Elf, edit your e-mail list for PDK! I actually received my FIRST spam on my account today. By tomorrow I will probably have 100. Not that I think it being posted here has anything to do with it, I'm just surprised that one of my e-mail accounts is that spam free without software to keep it out on my end. |

I seem to remember someone mentioning they had a birthday Sunday or Monday. Happy birthday! Now who was it? |

I believe I am the 'old man' of the group at 33. Why, back in my day, kids just never did... oh, sorry. Must be age catching up with me. |

As I was saying, the, uh, arctic twins should have a birthday coming up soon. Right guys? Right? mmmmm...
Really, with Sarelle back I should have responses back on the approaching horsemen. They should be cresting the hill right about... |

Man down! Man down! Where's that blasted cleric when you need her?
Welcome back. Now, get a few hours rest, and then you're on watch!

Well, Races of Stone is out. I haven't picked it up yet, but looking at the post atWOTC's site, I think we will all be interested in this. Has anyone picked it up yet?
I already have a few ideas to use, and when I actually have the book in my hands there will be a few more I'm sure. |

Nope. Haven't picked up RoS and I'm not planning to. If it would be all about Dwarves and Gnomes, this would interest me in the highest, but I flipped through it and they give as much spotlight to these new "Goliaths" as they give to Dwarves and Gnomes. Plus there's a hundred other "wasted pages" I would also have rather seen centered on the good old Dwarves and Gnomes...
Personally I think WotC is running out of steam/ideas... they're even starting to look greedy: not enough that they reloaded their sales with 3.5, now this? come on... it reminds me of the last days of 2nd edition... kind of scary, especially since I heard a lot of rumors from some well-connected friends about a 4th edition in late 2005/early 2006... no wonder they're trying to keep us busy with "Races" book at this point. I for one won't be blindsided another time and spend thousands in D&D product that will become obsolete a few months after their purchase: I did that with my last 2nd edition products (Cloak and Dagger and Drizzt Guide to the Underdark anyone? and please, don't tell me they are 'still useful' or that you 'still use them', for everything worth remembering in those has been reprinted in Lords of Darkness, Underdark, and various other 3/3.5 FR products) It's a shame that those that did the hard work with these 2nd edition products are not getting the money that the 3/3.5 reprints of their write-ups are generating for WotC... |

*Drags head off of space bar* Ooh swirly colours...
Not quite as vehement about it as PDK, but Races of Stone is far at the bottom of my list. Despite really enjoying this PBeM I've never really had an affinity for dwarves *ducks* and the book sounds a too crunch-centric. |

Hey Hammer,
I think we should kick it up a notch. The roleplay we've done so far was beyond awesome, but I long for action and can't wait to see what happened to Dumalair's son...
I think it would be best if you'd devise basic rules as to how initiative will work and maybe also determine "default" actions for those who are away, not controlling their character. That way the game would keep moving at a decent pace. Speaking for myself, I found that the PBeM is not time consuming so far, and I wouldn't mind devoting more time on it if that would help moving the plot along (i.e. I wouldn't mind writing two or three emails a day, as opposed to one every other day). |

I prolly wont buy the book either but only because there are so many Realms specific sourcebooks I want to buy before it.
Though this could be a good thing if you get the book Hammer you could surprise us all since we don't have it |

Yup I'm not finding the pbem too time consuming, although if I'm away for 3 or 4 days I come back to find a lots happened :) The roleplaying I'm loving, it's working really well, and it's far easier I find to roleplay like this than it is in pen and paper. We could look at arranging a time when everyone can get online, there is a client at www.dndresources.com which has dice on it and chat and some other stuff that could be used to play if we can all get online at the same time, or maybe there's a better one that incorporates combat too I don't know, I haven't really checked it out but it's an idea. I think things will start flowing more smoothly once we've had a few encounters, at the moment everyones a bit unsure what we're waiting for and what we're meant to be doign and such like. Once we get used to it more we'll know what to do each time and exactly what info to send Hammer when he informs us somethings happening. I think Hammer has the least time of all of us though, and since everyones so enthusiastic this is a problem :) Perhaps we should slow it down a little and let Hammer catch up |

Very true Kaladorm I think Hammer should be the one to set the pace as well. Like right now we can't keep going until Hammer tells us who these riders are We all need to realize that Hammer may not have very much time so we just need to be patient
I'm just thrilled that this campaign is actually running! I'm part of two others that haven't gotten past character creation... So everyone be thankful for what we have |

I will try to pick up the pace. I think we can continue with most encounters and most events when most of the characters respond. If someone is away we will try to avoid killing them until they can respond. I guess I should go post now. Part of the delay was because I was trying to find a description of something for this encounter. I will ask everyone tonight if they have answers after you have had time to get the next e-mail. |

AIM has a dicebot built in its Chat window, but OpenRPG is the ultimate best, complete with battlemap where each player can pick their avatar and move it around... D&D play becomes very easy over the net when using OpenRPG. I think the idea of setting times where everyone can play together, at the same time, is a great idea... this would take care, say, of combat situations much more quickly than the email method. Go there ( http://www.openrpg.com/index.php?page=install ) and follow the step-by-step instructions detailing how to install this on your PC. The initial learning curve is a bit steep (because you have to enter all your PC's stats, and it takes a while) but once familiarization is over, you save time like crazy... |

I just downloaded it but haven't had a chance to play with it. It could be a very good idea to get through battle sequences quickly assuming we can all be online at the same time... |

I can give everyone a tutorial if we decide to all be online at the same time. I haven't played a lot with it, but I think it's fairly straightforward. |

Okay, I'm sorry to sound like an idiot, but it looks... complicated. I don't know if I would have time to keep up if went on it. I'm a busy person these days. But I might be willing to give it a try... if everyone else all wanted to do it. |

I had the same reaction when I first ran OpenRPG... I thought it would indeed be complicated. But the one who creates the chat session (me in this case) can send characters to the players logged into the same chat room. Once I send you all a copy of my dwarven fighter/cleric (from another campaign), you can just go into the stats and change them to your own.
It's just a matter of setting a time where we can all be together folks... you'll see how much clearer things become then. For the tutorial to work best, we'll all need to be on MSN Messenger or AIM until everyone is logged in the OpenRPG chat window though (so I can give a step-by-step breakdown to those who haven't made it in the chat room yet, and for troubleshooting, etc.) |
