Now, as for the "official" start date... It's being held up mostly because I'm still waiting for two players to hand in their finished character sheets. I'm giving them till the end of the week, so that should give you an approximate start time. I'm afraid I can't be more exact at this time because my work and study committments are taking up a lot of my free time at the moment, and so must take precedence...

So hearing this news and not hearing anything from you regarding my character's oddness I am assuming that all is well on that front? Do I need to make any changes or are you happy with my last version?

Taeghen Turanruth of the Order of the Lost

Taeghen, a sun elf, stands five feet, eleven inches tall, with blond hair and green eyes. Little is known of him, save that he appeared at the Tower of the Watchful Order some twenty years past. Foot worn, and weary of travel the elf sorcerer has apparently decided to settle in Waterdeep, as it is rare that he leaves the tower of the order.

That having been said, he has been known to leave and spend time within the High Forest, returning weary, and at times badly injured, from his forays into the wilds.

More will be forth coming about Taeghen once I get the time.

Essentially that is correct. I do have a few minor nitpicks, but I'd prefer to discuss those over IM. So, just let me know when you're free...

End of the week is tomorrow: are we still on schedule to start a day or two after that? (i.e. if some of you are still holding the rest of us up by not submitting their stuff to Sage, please hurry!) Frankly I'm tired of waiting...

By the end of the week, I actually mean Sunday...

And PDK, all of the scribes here have handed in their character sheets. The particular write-ups that I am waiting for, come from users on a different forum.

As for the start date, next week (no specific date yet) looks to be the most probable possibility (finally ).

I wouldn't worry too much about that now, Artalis. I've since made some alterations to the basic plot of the adventure to take into account the "minor nitpicks" I had with Kelly's background. It conflicted (just a little) with some of the material that I've been working on regarding PDK's character.

Ooh, good luck with that . I'll admit it's never been something I've had to worry about. My first, and only job (programmer for those who don't know), was something I gained as a referral from one of my professors at university. His friend's business was looking for (slightly above-average ) employees, and my efforts in my classes obviously displayed some kind of talent with tackling particularly vile algorithms...

Thank you Sage. Never had to do this either because I come from a military background... it's all new to me, but I find it very exciting. If you ever need to look for a job on your own, remember the following: (which took me two months to discover, to my expense! )

1. If you apply to online job postings, don't expect more than one response for every ten applications you make.

2. If you apply to online job postings, send PDF versions of your resume, not Word or anything that can come out garbled on the other end.

3. Pick out 10 "dream" companies in which you would like to work, then call each and every HR manager in those companies, and tell them you'd like to give them your resume and go for an interview with them, even if they are not hiring. You'll be surprised what can happen! (I sure was! )

OK well I wasn't trying to make more work for you... I'm dying to know what part conflicted though. I left the background pretty vague on purpose.

Hopefully I'll find out later.

Anyway do we have a new revised start date?

I apologise for not having been as attentive with both, this thread and Candlekeep in general for the last two weeks. I do have a valid excuse though . I'm helping out with a (soon-to-be-published) psionics and combat supplement over at RoE.

I've had to put this project on hold for most of that time, but I should have some good news toward the end of the week.

All I ask, is that you please be patient...

Artalis' character and mine will be staying at the inn closest to the south gate to Waterdeep, unless Sage wants us someplace else.

To keep up suspense in our mutual stories, I won't reveal what happens right before. However, I will say that if any adventurers happen to be hanging around the Waterdeep Guard (not Watch), they might be asked to lend a hand with something. If your character has a convincing reason for that, (s)he gets to meet Jack and Kelly early.

Failing that, they still can meet in the city, but before the game. So, to keep Sage from the oft-used we-just-happen-to-be-in-the-same-tavern-taproom-at-the-same-time opening setting, I want to know if anyone is planning on meeting up ahead of time.

After all, if we have to wait for the game to start, we might as well put the time to use.

It's a very interesting alternative Bookwyrm. Good thinking .

As it happens, I've been considering something like this for a long time now. Two players have already asked to have their PCs meet outside of Waterdeep. One is planning to arrive with a caravan at approximately the same time as the adventure begins, and another is travelling with one of my NPCs from Sigil.

If anyone else has some particular "starting points" for their PCs, let me know...

At least I know I'm in good company in the "got dragged off by Real Life" category Hopefully by the time the game starts, I'll have figured out how to "watch" - at the moment, I have to get my gaming fix vicariously.

My character, Naglas, is in Waterdeep and has been doing a bit of footwork on the viability of starting a trade caravan back and forth betweeen Waterdeep and Silverymoon as well as looking into information regarding magical portals. I'll post some background info on him soon. Today and tomorrow are bad -- am working on a project.

Oh, and Sage, for now, I'm happy with the nunchaku. I customized it enough to make it more fitting and with his ties to Kara-tur, it is not unheard of.

Aside from a few modifications which I made to his original write up, no sadly. I sent these modifications to Sage and D-brane during your absence. I will happily forward the new write up to you should you so wish. Mostly I just corrected a few minor errors I had made to the original write up (actually looked in the players handbook and realized that sunrods are not called glowrods and included a few pearls for casting identification for example) and I included a paragraph explaining where he has been recently staying and what he's been doing in Waterdeep.

I definitely intend to write a bit of detail here though very shortly. I'm a bit wiped out from participating in a speed-adventure creating contest on the wizards boards and am recharging.

I would like to see what you have. D-brane has been pretty inactive of late (due to some intruding real life problems), and has unfortunately fallen "out of the project". It's just the Sage and myself now. So, while the Sage is busy with his work over at RoE, I'm left to assist with any of the problems the scribes here may have before we get started. Yay for me, eh?

Background:

Naglas was born to a pair of caravaneers working the Golden Highway. They were slain by Tuigian raiders while passing through Thesk when Naglas was only 8. Naglas was able to hide during the attack and flee to the safety of Two Stars. In Two Stars he managed to find shelter living in the Shou town outside the walls of the city. Fortunately for Naglas, he was adopted by several families there and taught them Damaran and Chondathan, ran chores, and helped around their homes in exchange for room and board. Eventually in his early teens he became a sort of a courier between various people in Two Stars and Shou town. He would help match merchants travelling the Golden Highway with guides to show them the way into Shou and to serve as translators.

Naglas was entranced by the various merchant caravans that would come through Two Stars. He spent all his spare time finding out as much as he could about where they were from and what regions they had passed through on their journey. He would sit for hours at night listening to the various travelers tell tales of the road, happenings in the realms, and other wild stories -- memorizing as many as possible. Eventually at age 16 he begged his way along on his first trip to Shou, offering to serve as an apprentice scribe for no pay, just a chance to sell some of the wares he'd managed to scrounge together. He became hooked and soon became a regular guide for merchant caravans.

By age 19 Naglas had amassed a small fortune from clerical fees, guide fees, and his own bartering. He had paid worship to whichever god seemed appropriate -- typically Shaundakul, Waukeen, Tymora, and occasionally Talos, Mask, and Beshaba to ward off their influence. Then after traveling as the guide to a Waukeenar "pilgramage" into Shou, he found himself drawn into their discussions of the good works that fortune can bring not only individuals, but entire communities. He saw that through banding together to foster mutual enrichment, an entire community can become more cohesive, better educated, and able to care for the weak and poor. After his return from this trip, he decided to recruit various guides and others of Two Star's shou town. Naglas organized them into a priakos of a sort. Some remained and sought out trade goods or manufactured their own. The rest traveled with Naglas doing their own trading rather than merely guiding.

At age 21, Naglas turned over his business to the others and left for Telflamm, where he joined the church of Waukeen. He turned over all his earnings aside from some equipment, a few changes of clothing, and 100 gold pieces and began training as a cleric of that church. Then the Time of Troubles hit and Waukeen stopped granting spells to her clergy. Many left the church, but Naglas realized that the true power of Waukeen was not the magic she granted to her clergy, but the magic of commerce.

Naglas remained true to Waukeen and continued his scholarly studies, but left Telflamm and went back to serving as a merchant. This time, he began to range far from Thesk into the Western Heartlands before returning. Over the Years, he set up another priakos that sailed from Telflamm to Cormyr and Sembia, trading for goods that would sell well in Thesk and in Shou in return for silks and spices purchased in Shou. Eventually he had amassed another small fortune. Then came the announcement that Waukeen was dead and that those faithful should turn to Liira for guidance. Many of he remaining Waukeenar did so, but some remained. Naglas turned the business and his persoanl wealth over to those who remained in the Telflamm temple of Waukeen and retained merely some clothing, adventuring equipment, and 100 gold.

This time, Naglas decided to continue west and began trading back and forth from Cormyr and Waterdeep. He was hooked on living the rags to riches lifestyle. Confident in Waukeen and his own savvy business acumen that he could repeat his earlier successes. Soon he was able to set up yet another priakos trading back and forth through the western heartlands. He again managed to put together a small fortune. Then Waukeen returned and Naglas rejoiced.

One evening, while performing his prayer rituals he had a vision while staring into the depths of his prayer bowl. He envisioned a means of traveling back and forth between Shou and Waterdeep in the blink of an eye through the use of a portal. He immediately began considering what would be required to put this into action. He again turned his business over to the Church of Waukeen in Waterdeep and purchased a shop with a large basement there, which he also turned over to the church for their use, with the express condition that some day he may return to take over this building. His intention is to someday create a portal in the basement leading to the basement in a similar shop in the heart of the Shou Empire, so that one can import and export without taxation or travel expenses.

He has turned over all of his wealth but some needed equipment to the Church of Waukeen and is prepared to begin the next stage of his career. He has determined that his best course of action is to poke around Waterdeep a bit and then start another trade route from Waterdeep to Silverymoon, saving up enough money to study there and at Candlekeep in order to learn more of the construction of portals. He is currently staying with the church of Waukeen in Waterdeep...
