We're excavating the Roman fort from approximately 63 AD at Humayma (Humeima). Humayma is about half-way between Petra and the Red Sea.

Sounds like a lot of work, but very very cool. I've got family with some land in Sicily that has remained unused for many years. I've often day-dreamed about showing up there one day to do some excavations. Of course, I'm sure I'd be referred to as the crazy American cousin, but it would still be fun to see what I could turn up.

Ooh, very interesting...

I'd be very curious to hear what you find...

This is just a quick "call for character sheets" to all those players in this campaign who visit, but do not post here at Candlekeep. I know you all read this scroll, so I'm asking you to have your character sheets in before the end of next week.

Since most of the other official scribes here have already provided their PC sheets (which I'll be posting here shortly), it appears that those players that I mentioned above are the only ones we are waiting for.

Perhaps the "Diviners list"? How else would they follow our story without some divination spell? You did give them all crystal balls yes?

Okay, here's a quick note about my updated MSN-IM. It is now fully compliant with my SageOS ver. 2.1, and will allow me to continue the IM discussions that I have had with some of you. If you have my older MSN-IM ID, please update your address books accordingly.

Bookwyrm, if you read this before checking your ethereal mail, I'm willing to set aside some time today to talk about the 'Fencer' class...

Okay, it's preview time.

This will likely be the last "planar-themed" preview, as the next two will be FR-based -

Saraqael

Angel of Repentence. Chief Prosecutor of the Exchequer of Souls.

What is known:

Technically an assistant to Remiel, under whose charge the Exchequer has been given, Saraqael functions as the other archon's counterpart, spelling out the case against the accused while Remiel acts as the defender.

Saraqael is a Hallowed Penitent (see the Avatar's Handbook), though her flames are wrapped in the unburnable cloak of a Hallowed Judge. When accusing an alleged criminal, Saraqael opens up her cloak, and the sins of the one on trial are revealed to all and sundry. After this has been done, Remiel discusses the mitigating circumstances and other rationales for mercy.

Some lesser archons, who resent Saraqael's position as the iron hand of authority, sometimes refer to her as the Celestial Inquisition. However, it's really humble Camael who does the bulk of the inquiring, sending investigators (swords, lanterns, or hounds) to seek out suspected criminals on the Mount and apprehend them.

Although her fuction is to accuse, Saraqael acts without judgement or rancor, or any emotion at all. She seems as objective as the kindly, ursine Remiel is compassionate and sympathetic. If some see this objectivity as hostility, it is likely they are only seeing their own reflections in Saraqael's flames.

Darks:

Part of a choir created to purge others of their sins, Saraqael has for some time been purging herself of all emotions. She does this out of guilt (a feeling she has almost forgotten now) for an ancient love affair she had with an eladrin, a firre named Tanzin, which means Solace of Desperation and Bright Fancy. The affair only stopped after Tanzin cuckolded Saraqael with another lover, an event that made Saraqael realize for the first time the great ethical gulf that lay between them. Saraqael retreated to her home plane and began her long progress of purgation and self-flagellation.

Tanzin still lives, and has tried without success to see Saraqael again - not so much for the eladrin's own sake, but for the sake of their child.

It's alright PDK, I've already received your PC sheet.

I'll be creating a Yahoo! Group shortly so that everyone can place their own character sheets there. How's that sound?

Yahoo! Groups are fine for me as well, though I really can't wait to see the website you and the Lady K have been working on. I bet it is magnificent! Any progress on getting a host for it

The Lady K. has done most of the work on (and been the brains behind) the website. To give you a rough idea of what it will look like, at least to begin with, you should check out Tracy Hickman's site. That'll give you a basic notion.

As for site hosting, I'm waiting to hear back from two Australian providers, both of which have what I'm looking for in a ISP.

I don't know where in the US you are, Wood ELf, but Perth is on exactly the same time as the East Coast is -- once you switch AM for PM. That might help you run into him . . . .

No problem Sage. I am just dying for some feedback. I've really going the extra mile on this one trying to get everything just so and I'm kinda proud of it.

All the secrecy that I am making myself maintain is killing me.

Oh and btw just so you know this character concept dates back to before 7/2003.

Predates Jack Archer, then. Or at least the D&D version. He started out as a person in similar straits who gets stuck in a land where Plato's ideal society went bad -- as it actually has to do, unless all citizens miraculously agree with each other all the time.

It was mostly an intellectual thing. No real long-term plot. Just a vague idea of the world, and how my proto-Jack would shake things up by starting to develop a quiet revolution introducing democratic elements.

That was actually one of my two ideas for the real Jack Archer story, the one Mr. Greenwood suggested I write. I was more comfortable with a story based on philosophy, as this would have been, but I decided that for a serious attempt at publishable material (something I rarely think about), it was just too close to Christopher Stasheff's Warlock series. Or more precisely, its spinoff Rogue Wizard series.

Hell hath no fury like all of Candlekeep rising in defense of one of its own.

Well, I have no idea about who this artist is, nor the tune to this particular chime you mention. I suppose I'll have to take your word that his music will work with this question you are asking.

Now, as for the "official" start date... It's being held up mostly because I'm still waiting for two players to hand in their finished character sheets. I'm giving them till the end of the week, so that should give you an approximate start time. I'm afraid I can't be more exact at this time because my work and study committments are taking up a lot of my free time at the moment, and so must take precedence...
