Looking around the shaded trees as the sun began to set, Fireheart said, "We could camp here, it seems safe enough. As long as it doesn't rain, I should be able to pick up the trail in the morning." She looked at the others for a decision.

Okay magic items: elven chainmail, keened longbow, +1 longsword and the ever wonderful, hewards handy haversak.

This is in keeping with the money granted at 6th lvl. If ya'll think I need to power her up some more, let me know.

Icewof looks into the sky, "It should be okay. If nobody minds, I'll get to it. Yar, bring back some food, would you?" The wolf nods, and runs off. Icewolf hops down from his mount, which fades out of existance, and finds a comfortable place to sit. He sits down, and pulls out a book labeled, 'Advanced Accounting' He opens it and begins to read.

>Narad shrugs his shoulders>
Goes fine by me. I should too prepare some spells of mine.
>Narad chooses a place that looks like a good place for a camp, gathers some rocks and starts a fire. When finished, Narad moves away from the fire and draws his sword. He starts his dance. With eyes closed, he starts humming and goes through the complicated moves of his baldesong. His sword starts glowing faint red light, getting brighter and brighter with every move Narad performs. When it seems that it can't become any brighter Narad suddently stops and opens his eyes which now glow the same red as his sword. He blinks and his eyes return to normal. Little by little his sword's colour returns to normal too.>
Gotta practice often.
>Narad gets some food from his saddlebags and starts cooking by the fire.>
Sorry if I didn't wait for Yar, Icewolf. I'm hungry. Does anybody else want some?
>Narad shows the meatstew he made>
Anyone?

I think I'll be hunting my own food for a challenge. Draws Alastor and pulls the Rings and Amulet from his pack. Stabs Alastor into the earth and begins to trace a symbol in the earth. Laying the amulet around the hilt of Alastor and laying the Swords and rings at the points of the symbol. ALASTOR I CALL UPON YOUR POWER Energy begins to run from the swords and rings convergin on RaVeN int the center of the symbol. A dark glow engulfs RaVeN and when the wind blows the darkness away, there stands the Essence and Spirt of Alastor the Thunder Demon. We hunger. We shall be back when you set out. With that he runs into the woods.

Icewolf snaps his book shut with a thud. "That should do it." He looks at the sun to figure out the time, "Egads, no wonder I'm so hungry. its getting late." He looks in the direction that Yar went. He stood up, "I'll be back in a minute."

Icewolf walked off in the direction that his familiar went. A few minutes later, he comes back with a deer over his shoulders. "Took him down easy enough, it was dragging him back that was giving Yar problems."

After he had skinned and cut the deer up, Icewolf went over to Narad, "Mind if I use your fire?" He smiled, "And perhaps, sometime, we can discuss your dance. I've never seen any like it before."

Go ahead, my dinner is ready.
>Narad starts eating>
And I can tell you about baldesinging while we eat.

First you must understand that bladesongs are a heavily guarded secret that only bladesingers have access to. However, I can tell you this much:
Bladesinging is closely realted to normal spellcasting. Bladesong is created by the words of the song and the howling-like 'music' that the bladesinger's sword makes. The words of a bladesong are somewhat like the magical words needed in spellcasting. Bladesongs help bladesingers in combat, offering many devastating effects. I'm not very experienced, so I don't know many bladesongs, but for example that bladesong I just performed, had I finished it, would have caused my sword to shine so brightly that you others would have had hard time seeing anything. Without magical help, of course.

The concentration required to perform a bladesong is immense and requires decades of training. If the bladesong is interrupted, all of it's effects are usually gone on that instant.
Bladesinging has also it's advantages. If the bladesinger's concentration is good, the bladesinger can fight and sing a bladesong at the same time. One must also keep in mind that bladesinging has a deep connection to the baldesinger's weapon of choise. If using any other weapon, bladesong has no effects.
>Narad puts away the rest of his meal>
I hope my answer satisfied you. Feel free to ask questions about bladesinging, though I can't promise that I can answer them all.

You are welcome to join our adventure, Shadowlord, but first:

RaVeN/A sits on a tree limb above the camp fire, munching on what seems to be a charred body of a rabbit, looks down at the group as they sit and eat. So Narad where... Before he could get through talking a lightning bolt struck through the camp and bounced of his sword sitting behind him. It streaked upward and hit the branch RaVeN/A is sitting on causing it to break and RaVeN/A to crash to the ground.

>When Raven/A crashes down, Narad is already up with his sword drawn. Its dark so they can't see where the source of the lightning is.
Narad casts a small spell and a ball of light shoots from his hand. As it flies, it reveals six armed men advancing towards the camp and a dark figure behind them, probably a mage. Narad starts running towards the armed men while casting another spell. As he finishes, his form becomes blurry.>

Take that mage down!
>Narad meets the first one of the men and their swords make a loud sound as Narad parries the first blow. Narad takes couple of steps back and begins his dance. Two of the men stay fighting with Narad, but the others enter the camp. Narad sings and his sword makes a howling sound as he swings it, parrying the incoming blows from the two men>

Icewolf uses his gauntlets to make Yar invisible after uttering a single syllable, and waving his hand.

Icewolf focused on the mage, as the invisible Yar disappeared. He spread his fingers, and a bolt of lightning shot from his hand. It streaked towards the mage, and was absorbed by a spell mantle. Icewolf grinned, and cast another spell. The mantle flared, and then faded away.

Icewolf disappeared, and reappeared behind the mage, who whirled around, trying to cast a spell, only to meet Icewolf's fist. The man crumpled, quite unconcious. Icewolf looked up in time to see one of the men jerk violently to the side from an unseen force. Yar faded into view as the attack hit.

"I got the mage!" Icewolf yelled as he felt a burning pain shoot through his arm. He spun around. One of the warriors had snuck around behind him! The sorceror stretched his hand towards the man's face, and let loose another spell. A cloud of dust enveloped the man's head, and he slumped, and started snoring. Icewolf winced as he moved his arm and cast his final spell for this encounter, and he faded from view.

Fireheart looked around quickly, seeing trying to riseRaven/a, she moved in front to give him time ready for battle and drew her blade. As the fighters moved to engage the rest of th party , she found herself quickly facing two of them.

"Looks like we got ourselves the pretty one, " one said.

Fireheart smiled " Why, Thank you for the compliment, gentlemen," she said as her sword met the first blade and she leaped back to avoid the second attack.

Looking around, she saw Raven/A rise so she turned her attention to the attackers.

>Narad allows himself to quickly galnce at the others. He sees that Fireheart has also too oppotents, but knows that rangers don't lack combat prowess. Narad again focuses on the two men in front of him. Narad parries one blow, then quickly dodges another one moving swiftly between his oppotents. Finally the other man tries to thrust his sword to Narad's chest, but Narad spins to the man's right side, dodging the attack. The man looses his balance and Narad slashes him while finishing his spin. The man falls down, bleeding heavily. One to go. With his sword Narad parries the attacks while his left hand casts a spell. In a few seconds a small orb hits the man's chest, knocking him few feet away. Narad quickly takes few steps and thrusts his sword to the man's chest, ending his life. Narad looks around and starts running towards Fireheart and Raven/A>

As one of the men jumped towards Fireheart's exposed flank a line of silk shot out of the darkness and wrapped itself around the thug's left leg. Fireheart's attacker hit the ground with a loud thud as he was tripped by the silk. The man screamed in surprise and started clawing at the silk trying to remove it. He was quickly pulled from view. A faint whisper could be heard

She's too good for you two bastards.

A loud snap was heard and then the dead body of one of Fireheart's attackers was thrown into the middle of the camp sporting a broken neck. Cherrn Yn Ravva El Hammaine walks into the camp smiling, then looks at Fireheart

Thanks for saving one for me m'lady. I think you got the last one taken care of.

Cherrn Yn Ravva El Hammaine looks at Narad and shouts

I hope you don't mind me helping you in this thing ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Cherrn here is a rogue of some skill. He has served as an ambassador for the Caliph in Calimshan several times in various places. One of the places was Kozakura where he was for around 40 years. This is also where he picked up his silk string. He took it from his former master who taught Cherrn the outsider in its use because he saw that Cherrn had huge potential (high use magic device skill) in this sort of fighting style. In the end Cherrn indeed had more potential than his master Orii and his twelve his apprentices. The shame of having an outsider with more skill than himself and his apprentices made Orii attack Cherrn. The fought a long fight where Cherrn came out as the one alive. Cherrn took Orii's silk string for his own and still uses is to this day.

The silk string, which is highly magical, itself has numerous uses. The most obvious one is the fact that it can be used as a deadly weapon in combat. It can employ the various elements to do damage (fire and so on). But it can also be used for divining information by letting it searching the area like a radar so to speak. It can also be used to interrogate people with by entering the victims brain, this mostly kills the victim however. It can also protect the user from some attacks by blocking or absorbing things thrown at the user. The user has to be aware of these things though. The string itself cannot be cut or burned away by anything and it can grow longer or shorter with just a thought.

Cherrn, even though he appears to be in his middle 20's, is extremely old. So old that he has lived through the Night Wars in Calimshan. He is gifted, or cursed if you will, by Beshaba. Because of this he does not age anymore. Beshaba's mark, which is shown by the birthmark on the right side of his neck that looks like Beshaba's holy symbol, causes Cherrn to suffer from extreme luck, both good and equally bad luck at times. Beshaba's mark also protects Cherrn's mind, he does not have any control over this though so his mind may be completely open for a psion at times, and completely closed at other times.

AHH my head. Struggles to his feet survaying the camp and the bodies. But as he turns to look at the group he sees a glimer above Narads head on a limb and throws a Thunderstrike into an archer's chest. His body sparks and sissles as it fell. I think you missed one. But no matter we might want to check the bodies for signs of affiliation.

Fireheart nods her Thanks to the rope-slinger and turns her attention to finishing off the last fighter.

The fighter, seeing the archer fall from the trees, turns back to Fireheart who, upon seeing him distracted, quickly slid her blade into his heart.

Looking around, she notices that Icewolf and the Mage who threw the lightening are still missing.

"IceWolf?" she calls out?

Icewolf's voice calls out, weaker than normal, "I'm here, and I have the mage." As he fades into view, it is apparent that he lost some blood, and did a rather poor job wrapping the wound. "And I got a live warrior too." He indicated both men that were hog-tied near him. "When you're ready, I can wake them up, but I don't know any spells to garauntee that they'll be truthful."

Yar padded over and sat next to his master. Icewolf nodded, "Yes, I know Yar, swords DO hurt."

Leave the questioning to me. A good quest must have a good interrogation. Walks over to the men tied up. As they begin to stir RaVeN/A was tieing their arms to two tree branchs so they hung limply in the air. RaVeN/A took out a small packet which he unrolled containing wicked looking items from thumbscrews to knifes. Usually just a look at these tools will cause lesser men to spill all they know. But just in case I do know how to use them. RaVeN/A drew out a small instrument with a sharp curve on the end with a wooden handle. Now buddies what do you think? Do you want to talk or do you want to feel and then talk? RaVeN/A twirled the instrument around inbetween his fingers and waving it in their eyes tauntingly, waiting for a reply

RaVeN hears a silent voice in his mind. "Questioning them is one thing, torturing them is quite another. Please do not cross the line."

Out loud, Icewolf said, "Don't push the man fellows. I saw the last guys who didn't answer my questions, and even my familiar lost his lunch." He shuddered and turned away, "I'm not watching it this time."

He turned and left. He sat on the ground and started a campfire. "And don't you dare feed anythiing to Yar this time."

Torture? This an interrogation Narad. But back to work. Takes the instrument in his hand and walks to the first man. Now this will hurt you alot more than it will hurt me. Starting at the top of his arm takes the curve and makes a deep gash of 1 to 2 inches deep from his shoulder to his elbo. Any thing to say? You know you cant talk through your teeth. No? Hmmm maybe more. Walks to the other man and takes the thumbscrews and attaches them to his pointer fingers. And begins to turn them. Come on crack why dont you. Id hate to have to take it to the next step. Goes to his tool kit and gets a small scalple and cuts the second man from his armpit across his ribs making sure to his every bone and nerve. NO MORE NO MORE WE'LL TALK. Usually it never takes this long but oh well I know how much you hate a good interrogation. Go ahead Narad you should have no more trouble getting answers. But if they done just turn that knob attached to those thumbscerews.

OOC: First off, before I start, this is Icewolf's gf (well, dictating, anyway). I'm not a big fan of pen and paper games, but Icey (she slapped me when I tried to write my full name ) managed to whine and bug me into playing Vanima.
_____________________________________________________

Icewolf looked up, and his face whitened, "Oh boy. She must have gotten that message."

Icewolf stood up, and adjusted his cloak, trying to hide his wound. He leaned against a tree just as a woman faded into view. She was shorter than Icewolf. She had Raven-colored hair, and emerald eyes. She looked around and found Icewolf, and rushed over to him. She grabbed him up in a hug (At this, Icewolf's face contorted in pain) and then gave him a quick kiss. She turned around and said "Hello, I'm Vanima. I'm Icewolf's wife." She looked at the men hanging in the tree, and looked back at Icewolf "You're letting them be tortured?" Icewolf shrugged, "Who am I to say that something is unacceptable? These men, by all evidence, work for a mage that dropped a fireball in the middle of a group of innocent people. And they themselves attacked us while we were enjoying an evening's meal." He leaned in and whispered, "Besides, it is not like they will be permanently scarred or anything, I will make certain of that." At her confused glance, he led her to his campfire, and relayed all that had happened.

So, how did you know to attack us?
>At first, the men don't seem to talk, but when Narad reaches for Raven/A's tools (bluffing of course) the other man quickly screams "NO! I'll tell you!" He takes a couple of deep breaths and continues:"We are hired by that mage that was with us. He told us to go killing some rebellious peasants. We heard that they are planning to attack the mage's master with great numbers and we were supposed to stop them in time. We have been traveling these farmlands for a few days until we encountered you...".>
Why does the master so fear a bunch of peasants? And why are they attacking him?
>"Their numbers are great and apparently that mage's boss doesn't want to attract attention to him.
And they are attacking because some mages have been killing those who are not willing to join their ranks..." The man doesn't have time to say anything else, he suddently erupts into flames. The other man yells something about "The contract" and he starts burning too>

Water quickly! >Narad shouts and runs to their camp trying to find enough water. A quick glance to the men and he realizes that it is already too late>

Fireheart, who had kept watching the woods while Raven/A and Narad questioned the prisoners, looked back to the camp at IceWolf's words.

"I believe I can follow the tracks, they didn't exactly try to hide.."

She looks at the wolf, not surprised by the intelligence in his eyes, she said softly, "Yar...I will need your help." Returning her glance to the others, "Everyone, gather your things, I agree with Icewolf, it is better if we travel for a bit. I will try to watch for a place we can rest."

Fireheart quickly resaddled her horse and after everyone had gathered, turns her horse and followed Yar in the direction the attack came.

Icewolf walks over to the ashes and kicks them around a bit. He picks up a couple of pieces, and casts a minor cantrip. A bright light flared up, and Icewolf was holding RaVeN/A's thumbscrews. The mage tossed them over to the winged man, "For one with your...unique features, you seem to forget that magic can save you some gold."

He flexes his shoulder, "I can travel. But I won't be swinging a sword for a while. Or likely, ever." He grinned.
"Why would you need to state that?" Icewolf blanched,
"errmmm..."
"Let me see it then."
Icewolf shrugged off his cloak and showed his wife the wrapped injury.
"And just how did this happen?"
"A warrior got me after I knocked out the mage."
"When were you going to tell me?"
"I was hoping it would heal first."

Icewolf grabbed a scroll and tossed it to his wife. "Here, we need to get going."

She rolled her eyes and cast the spell, the scroll turning to dust as she finished casting. She hopped into her saddle, and Icewolf cast his own spell and climbed into his seat.

Icewolf you see my unique features have kept me from gaining any magic abilities at all. Little RaVeN who is being held in my rings and Amulet needs all his energy just to fight after summoning me. So it really gives no power for magic. And I am just an Spirt of that Sword that can posses the wielder. My own abilites of wings and some electrical abilites leave me little power for other magics. RaVeN relies on my for my power and abilites and I rely on him for transport and a host. And with the present company I see no need for magics. But thank you for my tool. Puts the thumbscrews in his pack along with his other instruments.
