Yes, this place is by far my favorite part of the Forgotten Realms. Full of lore, history, famous folk, villainous individuals, everything one could ask for in a sprawling metropolis-like city. Granted some have different views on it, I love it. So if you happen to enjoy it to, share with us your favorite experiences, campaigns, game experiences, favorite characters, lore, etc. Anything you wish to share, I shall be oozing with fan status behavior. Tis by far, the best place to be for me.

Naturally one of my favorite times is during the games settings, when Irenicus was taking the Bhaalspawns power. Or attempting to, so he could ascend to god-like power. I have tons more of interest, but I figured I'd get this started off properly with my own experiences. |

My favored race was usually human, but I tended towards Elf or Half-Elf for magic users. I enjoyed using Mages, mostly Necromancers. But I changed my tastes over the years. |

I like Baldur's Gate, more so after the Spellplague, which is surprising. It's the closest thing to an american city in any fantasy setting that I've read about.
I did not however, like the recent addition of a statue of Minsc in the market. Yes he was a fun NPC in the games, one of my faves actually but I don't see any reason for there to be a landmark depicting him in that city, especially considering the lore from the novels about him, which are supposedly more canonical than the games. I suppose Duke Adrian could have been the one to commission it for saving his life in Irenicus' dungeon but it's a stretch. |

I never read much about it after Spellplague, I assume it's quite interesting. YES! Exactly, it did resemble a large american city to me as well!
Granted, Minsc played a vital role in helping with Irenicus...but that was only during the games. AND only if you used him as a character in your party. In the books, I cannot recall if he was constantly around helping with Irenicus. Yeah, even with that in mind...that isn't quite enough reason to create a statue of Minsc in the market.
Did you play the PC games much? |

I figured there would be more fans of this. Haha I'll post more of my interests in this city to keep it alive and relevant. What with the recent release of Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Edition. |

I would not mind also talking about the Shadow Thieves, or The Cowled Wizards. Some of the MANY interesting organizations within this part of Faerun. All of which have mysterious, if not interesting, pasts. |

Minsc only appears in the Shadows of Amn novelization. He and Yoshimo help Abdel escape Irenicus' dungeon then he starts work as a cleaner in the Copper Coronet.
I like the Cowled Wizards but have always felt that not enough was written about them, especially since they can count Shoon VII as a member (he makes a guest appearance in the games but he's practically impossible to kill without cheats). |

Yeah I recall that, and in the game if you don't allow him to stay by you he ends up leaving for the Copper Coronet. Yoshimo appears in the game right after you activate that portal, after stealing the key from the elven room. He had the ability to join your party as well.
EXACTLY! I always wanted to learn SO much more about them. They were very interesting, I used to search the game for tomes on them. Oh yeah, I remember that. -_- |

I was a huge fan of the Baldurs Gate games myself. If only they had continued the series <.> My favorite character was the human spell archer. |

I didn't mind them, they kind of grew on me. At first I did not care for them. But after a few play throughs, it just got better. What was your favorite part of the game? |

I wished it so, but maybe it was for the better that they did not? Sometimes the games or the series tend to get worse with added entries. But I still must agree, I wish they continued it as well. Very nice choice in character. What was your most outlandish or, otherwise, unusual character you have made on there? |

There wasn't much room for continuing the Baldur's Gate saga and the combination of Neverwinter Nights being so popular and all those problems with Interplay and Black Isle (RE: Fallout - Van Buren) pretty much killed all hopes for a BG3 even if they could work up a decent story.
I never counted the Dark Alliance games as part of the Baldur's Gate franchise but they were enjoyable in their own, vastly different, way. If only Daggerdale could have been as good. |

Tis true, after Irenicus it was business as usual in Baldur's Gate. I still wished I continued playing Neverwinter Nights. I just never kept up with the games/story. They were fun though.
I never did either, I thought of them as a stand alone entry that was not canon to the original games. But they had fun moments to them. I heard things about Daggerdale, never got to play it though. What was wrong with it? |

My Neverwinter Nights installation got corrupted after a year or so and I never got around to reinstalling it.
Daggerdale was the buggiest game I've played since Daikatana. Clipping issues, omniscient enemies and I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a single PC gamer who could get through the entire campaign without a CTD.
It's no wonder WotC didn't bother with new offline games after that fiasco. |

Nothing worse than a corrupted game, it drains a lot of the fun and will to play it. Sometimes. Sorry to hear that. =
Well thanks for letting me know, I shall do my best to avoid it now. I have enough issues with some of my other games anyway. Let's just hope they plan on releasing more games from Forgotten Realms. Mainly places that deserve a chance to be made into a (hopefully) successful game. |

There is a 'spiritual successor' to BALDUR'S GATE in development. It's called PROJECT ETERNITY and should be out in mid-2014. It's being made by Obsidian, who made NEVERWINTER NIGHTS 2 and its expansions and, as Black Isle Studios, created PLANESCAPE: TORMENT and the ICEWIND DALE games (and also provided additional support on BALDUR'S GATE I and II). They were also working on BALDUR'S GATE 3 before it was canned (and yes, there was going to be one but it had nothing to do with BG1+2, and was in fact set in the Dalelands IIRC).
Obviously, due to legal issues, it won't be set in the Realms, but beyond that looks like being quite an interesting game.
I'm planning a full replay of BG1 and 2 (plus expansions) next year, probably using the 'complete mod' to turn them into one big game. |

As I'm sure you guys know already, BG 1+2 were re-released as 'Enhanced Editions' recently. BGII:EE was released just over a week ago, in fact.
As to the OP: My favorite (as always) is a male half-elf, usually a multiclassed Clr/Ftr/Wiz. In my mind, he is a wizard with access to divine spells (due to his divine origins) and I add the fighter because I think such an entity should be tougher than the norm. However, he dresses and acts as a wizard (I rarely have him use a weapon and shield, for instance).
Bar none, BG is my favorite game of all time...despite its antiquated graphics/engine. Nothing since then has been able to trump the game's immersiveness and great dialogue combined with a great storyline.
Now to look up this Project Eternity... |
I have a dream that one day, all game worlds will exist as one. |

Oh, I also like to play a female half-elf or elven Ftr/Rog/Wiz sometimes, although I usually just play an in-house multiplayer game and add her as an NPC. I then take Minsc, Jaheira, and Imoen along with whichever NPC I choose from there (modded NPCs that is). |

I'm going to go alittle off topic and mention The Temple of Elemental Evil (the pc game) was quite fun. Probably one of the best representation of the rules in a crpg.
Menzoberrazan has a special place in my heart, though it'a dos game so getting it running requires dos box and some elbow grease.
For the more modern games there have been 2 "recent" releases...
Dungeons & Dragons Anthology: The Master Collection http://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Classic-Anthology-PC/dp/B005JQ064A/
Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights Complete http://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Neverwinter-Nights-Collection-Pc/dp/B005JQ05RS
They're the original versions of the games, so they may not work on win7/8 pcs but there's plenty of info out there to get the running along with some unofficial patches (I believe.)
I wouldn't pay those prices, I'd check with local gamestops.. they were $30 at release or something like that. I'm pretty sure both are available in digital form if you can't find physical copies.
Of course Good Old Games has the license for some of these games now and has them wrapped in their emulator to get them running 100% flawless on modern machines.

First of all, VERY excited for the mere idea of this! Secondly, the idea to use the complete mod to make it one big game...makes it even better. But this is very good news, I didn't hear about it at all before today. |

YES! Totally planning on replacing my original copies with these. I've inspected the additions to the new game, and I am impressed and happy!
Good choice, half elves have a decent array of class/multi-classes to choose from. But that character definitely has an interesting aspect to it, liking the sound of it already.
Yes yes and yes, the games dialogue and story are top tier entertainment. The storytelling is one of the many fine points that make it so much fun to play! Yes, the graphics are not OUT OF THIS WORLD, but for some reason it seems to fit PERFECTLY with the setting and story. I honestly love the graphics for both games. |

The multi-classing is what makes it interesting, I usually only multi class Kensai/wiz. Other than that I am strictly one class type, so it's really awesome to see that build. I do that to, I add some of my extra good chars as npc back up. But good choices there. |

I have the Temple Of Elemental Evil, didn't care for it too much. I mean it was a relatively good crpg, but not what I wanted in the game. It couldn't compete with Baldur's Gate for me.
Well BG EE was selling for like $19, and the number two is around $24. I forgot where I saw the second ones price, but that was pretty good considering it just came out. |

That's it fellow scribes, I am going to buy the original Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition. I wanted to do this in order, starting with that one. THEN, onto Baludr's Gate 2 Shadows Of Amn. This should be fun! |

With its back story the statue makes sense I think.
