So, I just got finished watching the season finale of Legend of Korra on Nickelodeon (yeah, I'm 40 and watching a kid's cartoon, so what). Thinking about this early Spirit Realms in the unapproachable east obviously has some inspirations from watching this show. It occurs to me that we MUST import an idea from it. What is this idea?
COLORED BUNNIES THAT FLY BY FLAPPING THEIR EARS!
They make the perfect familiar... they can come in multiple colors (blue and green for males, golden, pink and purple for females)... they make the perfect friend for a faerie dragon... and even more importantly, um, they're adorable.

I found it more noteworthy that you sounded like a Brony, dude.
Or, in this case, would that be a "Bruhny", or a "Brahbit"? 
I always liked the old cartoon Blackstar's little halfling with big ears that could unfold to fly, or fold down and cover him up like a clamshell (and voiced by Frank Welker, no less!).

These would fit in my homebrew world perfectly, considering some of the monsters I already have in it; vorpal bunnies (if any of you have ever seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail, then you have a good idea how these monsters behave), vampyric vorpal kittens (behave similarly to the bunnies, but they also drink the blood of anyone who tries to cuddle them), puppies that turn into Cerberus-esque hellhounds, fiendish dire penguins, and warforged giant space hamsters (sorry Wooly, couldn't resist this one), to name just a few. (One of many things I seem to have inherited from my dad is an extremely twisted sense of humor.  ) |

Age of Wonders - great game!
That brings back memories. 
Although I am a big fan of off-beat critters, the 'flying rabbit' sounds a bit too weird, even for me. |

I personally found the flying rabbits that sleyvas described to be almost normal, at least when compared to some other flying rabbits I've seen. Or rather, one mutant, flying rabbit my sister had drawn on a whim, which is... really, really weird, and more than a little disturbing. ( I think the bat wings and the saber teeth are probably it's most normal 'additions'. I could try describing it in more detail, but only if anybody really, and I do mean really, wants to know.) |

I hated the movie, but the Avatar series (animated/Last Airbender stuff, not the actual movie named Avatar) is great stuff. Well OK, the movie called Avatar is great too.
Now, I may just have a stick up me arse but I find the creatures mentioned so far to be silly. That's not meant to be an attack on anyone, just saying it's not my cup of tea. If I were to include any of them it would be in something similar to Dungeonland/The Land Beyond the Magic Mirror (that is, a setting where that sort of silliness is supposed to exist). Those critter just don't fit with my idea of the Realms. I think my opinion stems from my irritation over a DM that had a giant dog approach our party and pee lightning bolts on us (circa 20 years ago)...it was just too dumb for me. |

Yeah, I can't say I'm a fan of this concept, either...
For me, it kinda brings to mind Ryo-ohki, the "cabbit" from Tenchi Muyo that somehow (I never watched enough to see an explanation) turned into a spaceship. |

| LOL, well I had hoped my using CAPITAL LETTERS AND EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!! would convey the facetious nature of my note. That being said, in the "Spirit Realms" part of the unapproachable east where we were discussing extreme pre-history (you know -35000 DR to -26000 DR), there might be tons of these things. That being said, I would have fun putting a small bunch of these in an adventure. It reminds me of the old dungeon mag adventure from dungeon #41, "Old Man Katan and his mushroom band", with the little singing mushrooms (Campestri). That adventure was so silly, but I have to admit to having run it on at least 2 occasions because it was fun. |

As a matter of fact, this happens to be the name of the demon lord that created the fiendish dire penguins, who, by an amazing coincidence, happens to look a lot like his creations (only smaller, cuter, and slightly moth-eaten). I also had plans for a new sub-race of dwarves (two of their demigods were going to be named Cloister the Stupid and Lister of Smeg), but my dad said that was going a bit too far. (At least, I think that's what he said. He was laughing too hard for me to make out what he was saying.) |

I actually keep thinking of The Penguin from Batman as a minor fiend who specializes in penguin troops. It would be real hard to spin that into something serious, though.

But for a trip to the Feywild and/or The wood Between the Worlds, it could work. I agree that is not a good fit for FR-proper, but it is a big universe, and everything is connected.
Silly side-adventures in a otherwise serious campaign can be a nice treat once-in-awhile. Same goes for any other genre that isn't a perfect fit for the Realms (Horror, Cthulhu, Steampunk, etc). Just chuck your players down a rabbit-hole and your good. |

I've always wanted to run an FR campaign, and at some point, have a random encounter consisting of the Warner brothers (and their sister Dot) running by the PCs, pursued closely by Ralph the guard and Dr. Scratchansniff.
Yup, I'm an Animaniacs fan.
A friend of mine that DM'ed for a while kept giving us recurring encounters with a pony. It was never given a name; it was always referred to by the NPC owner's name. And this pony would turn up in some very odd locations... We'd leave it where it was, and encounter it again a few days later, in another odd location. |

I can get on board with that. I try not to be too serious in my gaming but I've had DMs/players that insisted on silliness to the point of being extremely distracting (like a player who named her dog pesci-joe-pesci).  |

You know, I used to use silly stuff back when I ran Greyhawk (that setting begged to be run 'goofy'), but I run FR pretty straight. However, I am a huge fan of puns, and although I WAY over-did it in GH, I try not to in FR, but sometimes I just can't help myself...
