More than "Waterdeep?" You want more than a one-word blurb...demanding creatures, all of you. ;) I'll give you this bit, but no more, in case I get beaten with the NDA stick:
Everyone in Waterdeep has a story. The Watchman. The alley thief. The butcher. The shopkeeper's child. They were born to a city that has seen and endured history, magic and tragedy. But do they truly know their city? Do they truly understand their own stories?
Vague enough? When my editor clears it, I'll divulge more, stay tuned here and to my blog. |

The Walking Statue.
Now that'd be a fun story.

Interesting. Would you be able to tell us, at least, who you're working with in terms of Realmslore research for this novel?

Maybe next time around. ;)
As for Realmslore research, I worked with my editor, Susan Morris, and with Ed directly on several points. The circle couldn't get much bigger than that, because at the time I researched and wrote the majority of the novel, 4th edition and all its changes had not been announced yet. |

Jaleigh, thanks for the blurb.
I've mentioned elsewhere that my feelings about the 4E Realms are at best mixed (Mace Hammerhand's comment about seeing "a positive side to having a limb cut off" comes to mind--I know it's a bit extreme, but I find it apt), but that being said I look forward to seeing what you do with it. It sounds like the "little people" will matter in your novel (as they did in your last novel), and for me that's always a good thing. |

Understood and appreciated, Rinonalyrna. The Realms are important to all of us, and these are enormous changes. I'm not here to tell you guys to throw out all your misgivings and buy my book. Whether you support 4th edition and the changes or not has to be a personal decision for each of you. For my part, I love the Realms and am excited to get to tell stories in the setting. Mistshore means a lot to me personally because it's Waterdeep, and Waterdeep has always been a big part of the Realms for me. If you choose to read the book, of course I'm thrilled and grateful, but if you don't, I completely respect that too.
On a lighter note, even if you don't buy the book, you all should really enter my release contest in September. The book comes out the month after Gen Con, and I'm plotting to obtain cool convention swag for part of the prize package. ;) |

Not to worry, I will likely buy your book. That being said, I'd love to enter the contest, too!
Thanks for understanding my feelings on the matter of the 4E Realms, as well. |

I'm going to be DMing a new campaign set in Waterdeep this year, so I will definitely be getting this. |

That's annoying. It forces me to choose which one to read first. |

Book launch party! ;) But seriously, in regards to reading order, Steven's is numerically first, so start with his, however, it should be noted that, unlike the War of the Spider Queen series, Mistshore is not connected to Blackstaff Tower, so you can read one independent of the other. The common element is, of course, Waterdeep.

Do I understand this correctly: your novel takes place before the "abomination" of the new and improved and cool Realms?
Sorry, I can't hide the sarcasm and my feelings about the changes |

As far as I understand it's set in the new realm, but since I liked The Howling Delve I'll still read it . |

Mace, Ed of the Greenwood tells me that although there are two elements of the story of Mistshore that are definitely "of the new," a good story can be enjoyed regardless of when it's set, just as we real-world people can enjoy good "historical" novels AND modern "set right now" yarns. And he also told me that he really enjoyed Mistshore, and Blackstaff Tower, too, and another book in the series that he can't name just yet: "All quite different from each other, but all of them darned good reads. Yes, I'll be buying copies for my shelves, even though I've already read them each twice on my computer screen. I'm REALLY pleased with what I'm seeing." Remember, all of these books are about Waterdeep, so if you truly hate all the rest of the Realms, just ignore it, and think of this series as possible futures of Waterdeep, just like all of the visions Scrooge experiences, in A CHRISTMAS CAROL . . . love, THO

Hi Mace. :) The novel does take place in the new 4th editon Realms, but it is not connected as a sequel to Blackstaff Tower, so reading the books out of order will not matter, was the point I was trying to make. Sorry if I was unclear. |

And, of course, the Moonpenguin of Boof.
Oh, wasn't I supposed to mention that?

Heck! That's me with another two novels to add to the list. At this rate, I'm going to have to replace "the FR bookcase" with "the FR Library!" |

Sorry. Insomnia and silliness have forced me to post plugs for the two books by Waterdhavian natives herein.
BLACKSTAFF TOWER: "Hey! I can see my house from here!"
MISTSHORE: "Gee, I hope I can get back to my house alive from here...."
Thank you. We now return you to your regularly scheduled discussions.
