Yeah, I knew they were in Chapter 11 (due to some financial fiasco related to the Star Wars Celebration, not any of the Gen Cons, which have consistently been money makers).

If I recall correctly, Gen Con is Peter Adkison's baby.

My bad. That post we were all refering to made it look like it was WotC in Chapter 11, not Gen Con.

Yeah, same here.

Sorry all, I edited the original post because I didn't realized how misleading my language had been. After rereading it, I feel really bad. I didn't intend to spread any rumors or panic in these uncertain times. I am seriously really sorry about any confusion.

No worries. :) Just wanted to clear up the confusion.

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... No worries. I remember, now, an earlier discussion somewhere about Gen Con filing for bankruptcy. I had forgotten that, though, and misread your post.

I was looking and can not find the Spin a Yarn Event. But I must attend it, mostly so I can hear lore straight from Ed's mouth! Can anyone tell me where it is?

"Develop the latent abilities within you for that is your power alone. Psionics is the ultimate art of magic and you are its practitioner. Through lifelong dedication, strive to unite your will with your physical form to become one. Only through the unrestrained union of one’s mind and body can the magic of psionics truly be mastered. Throw off the yoke of any who would impose tyranny upon you. Likewise, do not ever force another to submit to your will. Free your mind, free yourself and you have only just begun the path to true psionic mastery. Free others, open their minds to the Invisible Art, and you will show them way to Auppenser."

Might be best to go ask Ed directly in his thread. :) I would hope that he would know.....

From my experience, limited as it has been to two GenCons, WotC doesn't announce its schedule until comparatively late, since they're still putting everything together.

Rest assured that it *will* happen, and it's typically middle of the day Saturday, if I remember correctly (?). It's not a gaming event in the typical sense, so you don't have to register early, I don't think.

Cheers

Aye, when I went in 06 it was on Saturday and it was a open event, so I just walked in once the doors opened....

That's actually quite a relief. I've hit a snag in my own plans for attenting GenCon this year. I'm hoping I'll have it out of the way by mid-next week.

Where are the legendary scribes of Candlekeep gathering to share stories and laughs over beverages of choice? This is my first GENCON and I sooooo don't want to miss out on the Forgotten Realms events. Any advice on registering for events would be a great help. Some past titles of the events would be helpful for example. Like the Spin a Yarn event you have all interested me in.

As I said earlier, I'd prefer to meet at the Hilton sign, which is right across the street on a certain time.... What time doesn't matter to me but no one's really decided on anything. As for registering for events, I'll give the advice THO gave in 2006 or 2007, don't register for anything if this is your first Gencon, just go and experience the events. I know when I went in 2006, which was my first Gencon, I had a packed weekend just visiting the authors, going to the 2 Realms seminars, which you don't have to register for, least ya didn't in 2006, the art alley that is packed with different artwork, the computer demos, the vendors, etc. I was exhausted by the end of the weekend and I didn't even get a chance to play in any games, etc.

That is very reassuring and good advice Kuje. You truly are full of sagely advice. You have my thanks. I would like to play a forgotten realms D&D session or two during any dead time so if any one wants to share an FR game please let me know.

I'm down with gathering at the Hilton sign myself. I will monitor for further news. Thanks again Kuje.

Cool beans. I'm thinking maybe Sat morning would be a good time to have the Keep meet up because then we can know each other at the different Realms seminars and we can coordinate the times of the seminars if we didn't know the times they were being held, etc. But that also depends on if the two Realms seminars are on saturday like they were in 2006. I figured that they were though.

If you want to play a game, you better register for one then before the slots are filled. I think you can register on the gencon site.

Grin.

Atm, it looks as if we're just throwing ideas out there to see if anyone is interested.

Mine, as you saw, was meeting up on Sat morning sometime at the Hilton sign so we can coordinate the different events. :)

Kuje, your Hilton sign moot-place sounds like a great idea.
But if I were you, I'd add a backup "if pouring down rain, but not if just sprinkling" location, too. I've seen gamers near drowned, over the years . . .

Hmmm, good point, espcially if a tornado passes through that weekend. :) Uh... Any ideas? I don't know the city that well and I've only been there for 4 days 2 years ago.....

Maybe Neri could help out with that also since he lives in Indiana....

Too bad. I don't mind the rain.

While we're plotting for a potential meeting place, have we given any further thought about how we intend to indentify this growing "Collective of Candlekeep Scribes?"

I say certain color shirts.

White sticks out, so does brighter (not deathly bright) colors as well.

As for navigating Indy? Naw, I just know Brown County ;) Not Marion. Indianapolis is out of my league, although my friends Sionnain and her partners will be joining the GenCon event as well, as I should be rooming with them up there that weekend.

The Hyatt was connected to the Convention Center if memory serves me, correct? The Hilton was a walk away, or was it?
