Westbridge - a favorite gathering place for travelers along the Long Road - The Harvest Inn, with Derry’s Tavern and Eatery - ? (Sojourn, P5:C20)

Also, I vaguely recall that the maps in the book A Reader's Guide to RAS's The Legend of Drizzt mention quite a few taverns and inns. There may or may not be previously unlisted ones in there. There certainly was some nice new lore on Drizzt and company in that book.

EDIT, 05-JAN-2009: Expanded descriptions of the Last Respite, Boar's Snout, and Muddy Boots.

Will this list eventually be compiled into a table for an Excel or Word document?

May I suggest adding an entry for the Kingdom or Region? I can forsee people wanting to sort the list on that basis.

That would be more than a little awesome.

I would love to get my hands on such a doc. Excel would be more useful I think.

I went ahead and put it into Excel for my own use, but here it is as a google document:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pzJLr2eaPGmMShLGtiCfnfw

I know he still has a lot more to add to it though. I've only seen one location referenced to LOI, so that looks like an unmined source. I'm double checking the Waterdeep entries and trying to make sure they're complete, but then I'll probably start going through LOI.

I'm not sure how much detail is necessary for the sources. Some places will be mentioned in a number of different sources, but should each source be listed, or just the primary one(s)? Should they all have page numbers?

Page number may be more convenient, but not really necessary as anyone who owns the source in question would be able to look in the index.

EDIT: Then again, some of them are from novels, which don't have indexes.

This scroll has gotten pretty huge, so I don't know if anyone's mentioned the Whistling Stag in Quevarr.

It somehow became the focal point of my last campaign (about four years running), and was by far the most detailed inn I ever designed...

...then somehow, my gamers and I walked into a bar in Houston that looked EXACTLY like it. Creepy. :)

My latest Realms-based short story, about a bard, a paladin of Lathander and the letter of the law, Debts Repaid. It takes place before the "shattering" and gives the bard Arion a last gasp before he plunges into the present.http://candlekeep.com/campaign/logs/log-debts.htm

I use page numbers in my citations for lorebooks that have only seen one edition.

However, with novels like RAS's, which have seen as many as six editions, page numbers are kinda useless because pagination varies so much across editions. But chapter numbers, and sometimes even "Part" & chapter numbers, remain pretty much constant and consistent across editions, though.

That's a good point.

Page numbers are also good for those unfortunate game products that were not provided with indexes.

Last night, I discovered an oddity in the Waterdeep inns. The Cliffwatch Inn is listed as a ruin in both COS and COSW, but in VGtW it is a thriving establishment with a proprietor. Destroyed, rebuilt, and destroyed again? Or was there an error in either VGtW or COSW?

To make this file become an excel or a word file, a "copy-paste" action seems to be the best way.

About the region and the kingdom, the first columns gather the city and when the piece of information exist, the street where the establishment can be found.
I thought the name of the city would help realmers enough. No?

I will update the list today... I have to go now...

Volo's Guide to Waterdeep is set earlier than the other two sources. When Volo wrote his guide, the Cliffwatch Inn was thriving. Later on, it blew up, as described in the City of Splendors boxed set. As of City of Splendors: Waterdeep, it has yet to be rebuilt.

It's a great project. I had looked in earlier, but hadn't had a chance to contribute anything before.

To get it into Excel, I copied it into Word first, converted it to a table, and then pasted it into Excel. It was more difficult than it sounds. The hard part was converting it to a table in Word. The easiest way is to make it use a symbol to mark the cells, but the list uses two symbols to separate data: '-' and '--'. That can be easily fixed, but there's also the problem that hyphens appear in some of the establishment names. The biggest problem, though, was the hyphen at the end of the line. It threw the table off. I had to go down the list and delete them. It was tedious, but I didn't have anything more pressing to do.

I believe it's possible to download my Excel version from that google link I posted. If not, I can upload the file to my website. The google file is also editable by anyone.

It's sufficient, yes. I just thought being able to sort the data by region would make it a little nicer. That way, you could put all the cities of, say, Cormyr next to each other for easy reference if you were running a campaign there. Once it's in Excel form, though, adding another column for the regions and inserting them is pretty easy. It's probably not worth editing all the ones you've posted already.

Yeah, for some reason I was under the mistaken impression that VGtW came out after COS.

The updating of the list required more time than I believed !

There were several establishments to add and the way the data were shaped did not always make the work easier. I met a lot of problems with "space" and "-" but I believe the list is up-to-date with its 856 taverns and inns !

Thanks a lot to Kyrene, BEAST & Erskine (Hi Erskine !).
Arion, your inn was already in the list (in the original post of the topic, use the Ctrl+F tool to find the name you look for ).

I still have to insert the Kingdom/Country/region data column.
I begin asap. It will be done before the end of the day... or week !

Thanks for the xls file Erskine. I will have a good use of it !

Thanks a lot

I will need few hours to set all these data into the right "shape". There are too many "-" in the lists and it makes my excel file create so many different numbers of columns !!

one hour later : it drives me crazy ! I will do it later !

I did it but the post is now too long to be inserted in one only post !
I'm going to open a new thread to list the whole data.
