Ok I've been wondering about this since I started converting all my 2E characters over to 3E. I'm not sure if this has been covered before in these glorious Halls so please excuse me if it has. My question is if a Fighter takes on the Prestige Class of a Purple Dragon, can he still level up as a fighter?
I've noticed that some Prestige classes only have so many levels (I think that Purple Dragons go up to 5th lvl). If there is a max level then what does the character do? Can he still advance as a regular fighter or does he look for another class?
I can't seem to find an answer to this in the handbooks and I know that it will be asked of me when I start to DM 3E so if any of you knowledgable scribs out there can answer this for me I would apreciate it.

| As I understand it, the prestige classes are added on like in the same way a character becomes multiclassed. So each time you advance, you pick which class (in your case, the Purple Dragon or the Fighter) is increased. |

I would agree completely with Bookwyrm, I think you chose which class to increase.
Arazn I too have reciantally changed from 2nd Edition to 3rd, i also am a DM, perhaps if you would like to talk about this further i might join in  . What do you think that the biggeest change will be? What are your least favourite rules int he new edition? What are you sorry to see go and what are you happy to see in the new rules? Infact these questions are open to every one!
I don't know how many scribes will be doing what i am: I will be playing in one campaign using the 2nd Edition Rules, and then in another campaign using the 3E rules!

When your character gains a level they can take a new level in any class they meet the basic prerequisites for (like alignment restrictions for monks, etc). The only thing to bear in mind are potential mutliclassing XP penalties - though it should be remembered that prestige classes don't factor into these calculations.
So yes, you could progress through the Purple Dragon prestige class and then go back and take more levels of fighter. |
