Hi all,

I am looking for novels that are set in Halruaa and/or feature Halruaan characters. I have already read the "Counselors & Kings" trilogy, so I am looking for others which I might have overlook.

In advance, thanks a lot for you help!

There is always "Murder in Halruaa". It was a very long time since I read it and I dont remember much of it though.

And that's pretty much it, I think.

Elaine Cunningham also wrote some short stories about the time of Counselors and Kings that deal with Halruaa or some of the history therein. I believe Realms of the Arcane had one, but I can't recall them all. You could probably find the list on her website, ask her in her messageboard here at Candlekeep, or maybe somebody else has them handy to let you know.

Are you thinking of "Secrets of Blood, Spirits of the Sea" Tom?

I read it a few years ago, but all I remember is how the Halruaans see and deal with magic in their every day life. IMO it is a good novel to get a feeling for the special halruaan setting. And IIRC the plot had some nice twist as well.

Thanks a lot, all!

So: "Murder in Halruaa" and "Realms of the Arcane" then...

I'll have to see how to get these.

I think so sage. There are at least two stories I can think of. One or two involving some ancient history with a evil wemic sidekick -- I think one was in the Threat from the Sea anthology (Realms of the Deep), but I think there was another with the same wemic, and that's probably it. And I know there was a short story about a jordain who could detect magic, might have been Realms of Mystery actually now that I think about it.

Aye. As I recall, that was the story I mentioned above.

From Tethtoril's Bookshelf:

"Secrets of Blood, Spirits of the Sea" by Elaine Cunningham, is in Realms of the Arcane.

And there seems to be a story by Elaine Cunningham entitle "Fire is Fire" in Realms of the Deep.

Finally, "The Direct Approach" by Elaine Cunningham in Realms of Magic.
Would that be the last you are referring to, Tom? The one with the Jordain, I mean.

It's been a while, but as I recall... "The Direct Approach" is a Liriel tale.

Not a Halruaa tale, this is a metastory (a story about a story) set in an unspecified land during the mist-shrouded past. The wemic's name is a common family name: it is not the same wemic that appears in The Magehound.

There is indeed, but this story is set in Waterdeep, during the sahuagin attack.

This story (unpublished subtitle "Girl's Night Out in Skullport") is about Liriel, and takes place between the first two books in the Starlight & Shadows trilogy.

The story about jordain is "A Little Knowledge," and it was originally published in Realms of Shadow. This story does not deal with the characters from the Counselors & King trilogy, but rather casts light on other aspects of Haluraan life. It takes place in a small village and suggests some of the pitfalls of a magic-heavy culture. This story will be reprinted in the upcoming anthology The Best of the Realms Book III.

Thanks a lot, Ms. Cunningham!

It's fortunate the story will be reprinted, because it seemed quite hard to find the older anthologies in Germany (sold out and no second-hand one that I could find online). Can't wait for "Best of the Realms III".

Best wishes,
Bocklin

Thanks! Really kind and thoughtful of you.

Unfortunately it's a German translation. Not that I am being elitist, but German is not my mother tongue, so I'd rather get the original prose! ;-)

But that's really great of you to mention this here. Thanks.
