I am researching the Zhentarim and the Church of Bane. Right now I am trying to determine what cities, strongholds and territories are under Zhent and/or Banite control. I am hoping you fine folks can assist me with this. I have a fair amount of Forgotten Realms sourcebooks, but I would like to prioritize my next purchases. If you could look over my list and check for errors, and let me know if you find any missing, I would appreciate it. If you could point me towards the right book(s) for additional information, that would be greatly appreciated too.
The list I have so far is(from FRCS and Lords of Darkness):
Main Holdings: Zhentil Keep Citadel of the Raven Darkhold (Cyricist Zhents?)
Moonsea/Surrounding Area: Teshwave Voonlar Yulash Tethamar Fortress Whitehorn (The Ride) [Mining Camp] Hillsfar?
Other: Mintar (Lake of Steam) [Banite] Llorkh (Savage Frontier) [Cyricist Zhents?] Phsant (Thesk) [Semi-retired orc soldiers] Reth (Chondath) [Zhent target- Bane's Temple of Dark Eyes] Kzelter (Tethyr?) [Saw mention of it somewhere, but I cannot find solid info]
Am I wrong (outdated) or missing anything? Also with Daggerdale independent again, does that affect Zhent traffic on the Black Road?
Thanks,
-Lawfire

Isn't there a city or town on the Eastern end of the Lake of Steam that's coming under Cyricist control? I vaguely remember something about the Banites of Mintar not knowing about it. I may have dreamt that of course. |

Yes Ransar Pristoleph of Innarlith has secret ties with Cyric but that doesn't have direct ties with Zhentarim |

Sigh.
Don't get me started on this NPC. :) All I'll say is look at my 3/3.5E NPC list and cringe. |

You can learn much about Pristoleph by reading the Watercourse trilogy.
Kzelter is controled by Banite forces from Mintar, see LoI and a portal article on Wizards site.
About the Zhent traffic on the Black Road, what about the Shades and the events in Sons of Thunder ?

** Minor Spoiler **
to add on...the Black Road is mapped out in the 2E Anauroch supplement and the 2E Cult of the Dragon book has information about the Zhents, the Black Road, the undead blue dragon suzarian (sp?) and the Cult of the Dragon
Shade and the Black Road I think is briefly covered in Lords of Darkness , and at end of the Return of the Wizards storyline you see what happens to that ndead blue dragon suzarian (sp?) and Shade |

There might be. I haven't started that trilogy yet because I'm waiting for the last book to come out. |

I am not sure with what LoI is? I did check out the Portals articles, thanks for the heads up.

According to Lords of Darkness there hasn't been a direct conflict with the Shades along the Black road yet, but I'm sure something's coming.
I am not familiar with the events in Son's of Thunder.
Thanks for the help.

I belive that the city's name is Mintar, home of the prophet of Bane. |

The city of Mourktar contains "the largest temple of Bane in the Realms"...so naturally, they left that city of the map in the sourcebook. Anyway, you can read all about it in Dragons of Faerun. |

Actually, at least one "lived" on to cause a bit of a bother in Daggerdale and Sigil. (see Finder's Bane.) |

Innarlith! That was it! Thanks.
Additionally. Are there any known Banite or Cyricist strongholds, organisations or activity south of The Shaar? |

I dug up this old topic instead of starting a new one. I'm wondering if anyone has more information on Zhent lands and holdings? |

The Zhentarim (by way of Zhentilar soldiers) is now in control of Phlan on the Moonsea as well.
Mulmaster is now part of the Zhentarim...even if its citizens know nothing of the fact.
Hillsfar is controlled by the Zhents now (as of the publishing of the Grand History of the Realms).
Shadowdale was held by them for a while recently (if you are keeping up with adventures published by WotC).
That is all I can remember right now without looking at books. |

Fzoul Chembryl destroyed one of these liches with an ancient Netherese artifact, while Xvim’s Tyrantfog destroyed the others.

I don't have the answer, but I'll speculate (if you don't mind ).
The Ride might technically be independent and not actually a legal domain of the Zhentarim, but it could still be under the influence of the Zhents thanks to being in such close proximity to them (and perhaps having nothing with which to counter said influence). |

The barbarians who populate the Ride have a history of unity against the external threat presented by the Black Network -- for example, the barbarians of the Ride who destroyed a large Zhentarim caravan which was en route to Glister in 1352 DR.
Myself, I'm just trying to recall where the reference came from that notes Whitehorn as being a Zhent outpost. I don't immediately remember where it was mentioned.

Just to be clear, the Tyrantfog and Fzoul did not destroy ALL of the baneliches. I purposefully shaped the extent of the Fog so there were places where a banelich could have survived, though I'll confess to having cleared the table of many of them.
Remember--never close doors entirely if you don't have to (though I admit that I purposefully blew up the Scepter of the Sorcerer-Kings since it was too blasted powerful to exist in the Realms).
