Can a fiend ever ascend his infernal station and become a celestial? Have it ever been documented in Lore?

I'm not up on my Planescape lore, but I'm sure there have been canon cases of risen fiends... After all, if a celestial can fall, why can't a fiend ascend? Sure, it's tougher to climb up a hill than fall down it, but it's not impossible...
In the last volume of the Candlekeep Compendium, in the Brightwater article, there was a fiend that was extracted from the Lower Planes so she could be sworn in as a good guy. See the link in my sig if you're interested. |

In a word, yes. The glory of the upper planes may be just as enticing to the fiends as the splendor of the lower planes is to celestials.
Faces of Evil does have some information on risen fiends. K'rand Vahlix is a male risen hamatula who organizes other reformed fiends into celestial armies and protects them from the minions of Zimimar of the Dark Eight and her equivalents in the Abyss. He lives in Bytopia, and he's done so much good that he's probably beyond reproach.

There are many documented cases of celestials becoming fiends, fewer examples of fiends becoming celestial, but I figure that is just Zimimar working hard to downplay or cover up the knowledge of that information. It certainly does happen, and the Sage mentioned Faces of Evil, the major source for info on this topic.
The book Savage Species has a bunch of rituals that allow you to change alignment, type, subtype and such, if you would like to know the mechanics of how it could be done. |

| Like Wooly said, if you can fall, you can go up as well, although climbing is harder than falling. Like in Star Wars, tis' easier to follow the path of the Sith than it is to follow the path of the Jedi. |

| for fiends just use the "redemed" template in the Book of Exalted Deeds to make the "good" fiend |

Well, hopefully here soon everyone will read my fun and interesting article here at Candlekeep, or maybe else where *cough* if I can muster up a couple of more details.
Why do I say this? Well, not to give much away to those who do not know, but it involves much your asking! T'will be a very interesting fiendish article |

An interesting alternative is the "Reforged" template from the 3rd party Avatar Handbook. Essentially, evil creatures are redeemed against their will. Maelcrexis, the reforged advanced cornugon example, is an interesting character.

Which could go back to a very fun debate that began back on the Wizard's Forums when I first brough up my idea over a year ago!
Reforged I wouldn't use for the deity that I'm creating my article with, though I'm sure there are a couple of deities that would support a Reforged fiend (and the person who cast that spell :/) |
