What would an artisan earn in the realms?
How long would certain items need to be completed? Would this be similar to the real-world completion time?

Opinions and refferences of documented answers are all welcome.

Per the rules a person having average stats will make at least 5 gold per week and can make much more. There is a skill check for weekly income.

Specific item cration also has rules which require a skill check. The oddest aspect of specfic item creation though the harder it is to make the quicker one can make it if skill is high. That making simple things takes longer no matter how skilled one is.

I can point you to an SRD that sets forth the rules, costs and time.

"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards."
"Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding.
"After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first."

One thing I would note here is that any say.... weaponsmith or armorsmith.... would likely find it monetarily worth their while to have some magic items that give skill enhancements to their craft skills if they ever plan on spending time making masterwork items which in turn get enchanted. Up front it would be some hefty cash for them (there were some tongs and a hammer in magic of faerun, but there would need to be a price change as a result of 3e), but it would pay off in the end. However, since your average weaponsmith isn't going to be filling all his item spots, it might be worth their while to get 4 items that all give +1 or +2 skill bonus (competence, insight, luck, and morale could all make sense). Hmm, these items would make very cheap and common loot for most humanoid tribes (being only 100 gold each). I may start having to include those for low level adventurers to find in replacement for things like gems. Of course, having dozens of apprentices all providing "aid another" actions would help too.

Alavairthae, may your skill prevail
