Yes, it's at the Convention Center.
For those new to GenCon: the connecting, "walking around" areas of the con are strung out along the northern face of the Convention Center (which "flows into" the off-limits RCA Dome to the south, and to the north looks out onto an east-west street called Maryland through rows of glass windows). The skywalk bridges to all of the hotels are second-storey (-story to you Americans) crossovers above Maryland, and the cafeteria referred to is immediately west of the bottom of the escalator that leads down (inside the Convention Center) from the skywalk bridge over to the Marriott, which is the westernmost of all the skywalk bridges over Maryland. (So if you're walking along the street outside the con, and you look west [away from the Circle Center mall, and towards a distant park that runs along a river, (there's also a steel mill, railway shunting yard, and A-ball baseball stadium clustered there, but I'm not sure how "high up" you have to be to see all of those)] and still see a skywalk bridge crossing over, go to it, and through the glass entrance doors adjacent to it, and you'll be in the right place.)
The cafeteria looks out onto Maryland to the north, and the main entrance doors to the con exhibit hall to the south. It's usually a busy, busy place.
love to all,
THO

Thanks THO. :)

Alas, I probably won't be able to attend Gen Con this year, as I went to Origins (where I was underwhelmed by the dealer room, but had a blast with the seminars and games I played).

Perhaps, next year I'll make the three hour drive to Gen Con.

Assuming it still ends up happening, I am running Silven Idol from 2-5:30, so I may be a few minutes late. How long will you guys be sticking around for stragglers?

*Sigh* This sounds like so much fun....Kinda wish now that we had decided to go to this for our vacation instead of visiting Tifus' family in KY this year.

Ack! I seem to have too much blood in my coffee stream!

When did 'common sense' cease to be common?

If you are for sure that you are going to try to make it, I'll stick around for another hour or two or longer.

I'll definitely try and make it. My event gets out at 5:30, so all I have to do is make it from wherever it is to the meetup site.

Then I'll be around. I believe we are meeting, hopefully, near that spot near the dealers room. :)

Unfortunately, my Gen Con is packed from end to end with press coverage, signings, running a tournament, seminars, dealer's room circulation and such, so it's better to try and make things when people will definitely be there. I do have a few slots of time in the evenings saved for some RPG games, but otherwise, I am pretty much swamped.

Great. Odds are that I'll be on time, if not early, but just in case the location of my event ends up being farther than what I thought, it will be at most 10-15 minutes.

Well isn't this nice? APpearntly I have to pick up my badge at the "Will Call" kiosk when I go there, even tho I didn't get the http://www.gencon.com/2006/indy/registration/default.aspx page. I had the option of having it mailed to me and I think it should, but I wont argue with them..gah.

N-F, I think that happened to your badge because you registered after their mailing deadline (GenCon DOESN'T want your badge to arrive after you've left to travel to GenCon).
So, welcome to the hellish "Will Call" lines. Yet consider this: EVERYONE attending from outside the continental USA (yes, including Alaska, and of course Canada in between) ALWAYS has to line up: GenCon won't even attempt to mail their badges to them. (Welcome to the army, boy! Now get in that line!)
Hint: bring a paperback book to read while in line. Although they sometimes put the con booklet out in large "dumps" by the ceiling support pillars, for people to scoop and read while they're standing in line.
love,

This is one of the reasons I always find some way to get a press badge. That way, all I have to do (other than that press stuff of course :) is go to the nice press badge room and show my ID. It also comes with a big pack of free stuff. Who doesn't like swag?

Alright, after looking through the pages in our last week of waiting, here who is coming so far for sure...

Kuje
Neriandal Freit
EvilKnight (Saturday Only)
EytanBernstein (if enough time is avaiable of course)
Erik Scott de Bie (again, if time allows)
Dhomal
Steven Schend (who'll be there 2.5 days but not Sunday)
EdGentry

If you plan on coming just post here or Mail Me at Char9er@gmail.com and I'll edit this post here, or a mod can if I haven't got the time.

And, as for the meet up time in one giant post rather then having them spread out in four pages, here is the following. I presume most of of us have enough time to wait on others such as Eytan, for Eytan is going to be a very busy person

quote:
OK - since we are thinking about Thu eve - we should not have too much 'other' stuff going on to cause problems with wherever we choose.

I would say 5:30 PM at the cafeteria exit/enterance near the main dealers room enterance.

Backup - 6 PM at the bottom of the escalators in the Marriott lobby

And, from the lovely THO, we have this infomation to assit

quote:
For those new to GenCon: the connecting, "walking around" areas of the con are strung out along the northern face of the Convention Center (which "flows into" the off-limits RCA Dome to the south, and to the north looks out onto an east-west street called Maryland through rows of glass windows). The cafeteria looks out onto Maryland to the north, and the main entrance doors to the con exhibit hall to the south. It's usually a busy, busy place.
love to all,
THO

Which makes me wonder if shes spied on me before knowing Indy so well , not that I'll complain, I've been spied on by people before

I'll be attending all four days. I'll be doing the two Young Dragon signings in Author's Alley. I tend to spend a fair bit of time at or around the WotC sales booth as well (of course, most people do because it's so huge!). I'll also be attending the Secrets of the Forgotten Realms and Spin a Yarn.

Actually, the first YD signing ends a half hour before Secrets of the Realms starts. If folks are attending the seminar, we could convoy from the signing over to the seminar.
