I'm content with the badges, but I was pondering what if we just had them mailed to us instead of getting them at GenCon since the whole point of the badge is to find each other.

Naturally I'd pay for my own.

As for badges - if someone can come up with the general design - and make it so that it fits inside a standard rectangular pin-badge - I can bring the pin-badges, as I have a bunch.

Thurs works for me. :) I should be there by then, gods I hope so, less the plane is 3 hours behind schedule. :)

As for badges? I dunno... maybe something like, "Hi, I'm so and so from Candlekeep." I know that my Gencon badge, since they arrived yesterday, has my first and last name on it alrdy.

Hello-

Maybe they could be designed (*by someone who would know how!*) to be black, with the general logo from the main page - with the buildings behind the work candlekeep. We could leave a spot at the bottome edge white - and have the login name / real name printed / written in that bottom margin. They would look cool - and might get people asking about them too! :) More scribes to do Alaundo's tasks can't be a bad thing!

I am collecting the D&D Minis. I would be more than willing to trade with people. You can send me a PM here with your email listed - and I can send you my minis list. Thanks!

The at/around the 5 or 6 is good for me, it'll allow me to get checked in, etc

Well, what if we found out how late GenCon is going to run most night and maybe plan for it later in that day so people dont have to feel so rushed after getting in?

The last I heard from the GenCon staff, it was going to be "24 hour" this year (!)
But the dealer's room usually closes at 6 pm, and the crowds head from there to restaurants (tournaments and seminars still go on in the function rooms).
Your cafeteria suggestion is a good one (though it can get pretty crowded at peak times), but you might want to choose a backup location, in case the area is cleared for some reason. I can suggest several, but I don't know if you want an indoors meeting area, restaurant or bar, and so on. Most of the attached hotels have lobby areas with seating that can be used for meetings.

Please do and then we can debate back and forth on which one is better or which one would be a good idea to use. :)

Right. Here we go: right across the street from the cafeteria is the sports bar in the front of the Marriott. Good place to hang out, but noisy (chatter and music and sports TV screens) and smoky. The Marriott has a two-tier lobby that's good for meeting. On Sundays the restaurant is closed, and the bar attached to it may or may not be open. Its "waiting lounge" then becomes a good place to chat or meet. The upper tier of the Marriott is okay for meeting so long as Living Dungeon isn't invading it (last year it was), and has huge washrooms opening off the elevator bank at its east end.
The next hotel to the east (I'm blanking on the name) has a lobby on the ground floor and a bar on the second floor, both also good for meeting, but not so much for hanging around in. There's also a Subway restaurant "around the back" (on the north side, facing the state legislature building, rather than on the south side, facing the RCA Dome where GenCon is held).
The Convention Center itself has several banks of escalators (all of which break down during GenCon, of course), and they are all good meeting-places AS LONG AS everyone's clear just WHICH bank of escalators is meant (name a street the escalators are overlooking, and a feature in GenCon they're nearest: one is right beside that cafeteria you mentioned, one is to the east, right beside the badge pickup and event registration booths, and a third is "way east" and around a corner, about fifty feet south from the north front of the convention center.
Then there are a bunch of meeting places in the Circle Center mall, which like all malls has guards and closing times and folks get ushered out. It has a food court at its north end, a walkway down into a VERY distinctive glass dome (sun beats down, but there is seating) that overhangs a major city intersection (oh, yes, this DOES stand out) and connects at its other (northwestern end) with the lobby of yet another hotel (also a good flopping and meeting place, though the hotel itself has to be the best example of a "hidden hotel" I've ever found, if approached from the street.
And so on, and on, and on... over to you, Kuje. :}
love,
THO

Myself,

I think either the place near the dealers room

Or

The Marriott

Are two best places for those of us who have never been there before and, hopefully, aren't that hard to find/get lost trying to find. :)

As for the badges, Neri has a point. If we are going to use them to find each other, how are we going to get them to people before Gencon? Or should we all just bring something, like I said, that says, "Hi, I'm so and so from Candlekeep." :)

I'm still open for meeting late Thurs after I arrive and check in and get settled. So the 5 or 6PM meeting is fine for me. It's just picking a place that seems to be the problem, at least for me.

I think THO's circle center dome is a good idea. The only problem is that once in a while, there is a concert or event (usually Friday and/or Saturday nights). That hidden hotel is quite obfuscated. I stayed there and had trouble finding the way in the entire time.

Hello-

OK - since we are thinking about Thu eve - we should not have too much 'other' stuff going on to cause problems with wherever we choose. I would say 5:30 PM at the cafeteria exit/enterance near the main dealers room enterance. Backup - 6 PM at the bottom of the escalators in the Marriott lobby.

As for badges - I MAY be able to work something out. I'll check and get back here sometime tomorrow. I'd be willing to create and mail them out (*IF I can corral the help I need!*) at my expense. (*Assuming that we dont end up talking about dozens of them!*)

If I'm there at the Con by that time on Thursday (never really know -- my plane only gets in at 3 p.m. that day -- sucky, but my idea was to avoid the whole red-eye thing), and I can, I might swing by and say hi to you gentles.

Cheers

Quickie Question - I presume this (the meet up at the Cafeteria exit/entrance near the main dealers room entrance) bit is at the Convention Center?
