Jamallo,
You are quite correct. I have that combination work in my collection. It is an excellent reference book, and not only for fantasy gaming. The information and drawings of armor are great! I will look up the exact title tonight when I get home, just to check...
Oh, please do. I'd be very intersted in that book. I saw a similar one, also by Palladium, but this one had modern weapons. Very detailed though, so I'd be interested in seeing one based on more ancient weapons.
This "chopper" blade sounds like it would be kind of hard to wield effectively untrained, so I'm guessing you're going to make it exotic? Or maybe, if you're going to make it elven, you could add the the proficiency as a bonus feat for the elven regions. Assuming you use the regional rules for bonus equipment and feats in the FR 3.0 Campaign Setting. Or you could use this as an excuse because of how powerful a 19-20 x3 weapon would be.
Could you post the full stats of it once you get it all designed and into your game? Right now it's looking like...
Elven Shear Sword 1d8 (S) 1d10 (M) 19- 20 x3 - 7 lb Slashing

And if the PCs DO win their ways through all the liches to Larloch, “he” will almost certainly be just another lich (loaded with explosive spells) set up as a decoy, with dozens of hidden liches waiting to pounce on any surviving PCs who ‘celebrate’ after they take Larloch down. As the REAL Larloch watches (magical scrying) from afar. Myself, as DM, I’d be wondering: “Such a glorious game, so many opportunities laid out before your PCs to devote your time to, and THIS fixation is the best you can come up with? Are you SURE you’re adventurers?” -Ed Greenwood

Don't know if this historical sword has been mentioned, but in my scan of the thread it wasn't.

The sword was so effective that the Romans altered their armor in order to combat the effectiveness of this weapon. |
Session Reports posted at RPG Geek. Stem the Tide Takes place in Mistledale. Dark Curtains - Takes place in the Savage North, starting in Nesmé. I wrapped my campaign into the Hoard of the Dragon Queen, but it takes place in 1372 DR. |

Found that tome! It is called The Compendium of Weapons, Armor and Castles by Palladium Books. The renderings (line drawings) of warriors and armor through history are excellent, I have used them in teaching classes on the Middle Ages. Wenin, the falx is in this book. I never saw that info on the Romans adapting their armor before; great information! The stats on weapons is outdated but may be a good guide to start with. |
