I was just reading Old Mysteries, the newest installment of the "Steal This Hook!" series.
They've changed things a bit. No longer are the hooks solely specific to that Eber-whatsit setting. Now some of the hooks are FR-specific, and they all have notes on how to adapt them to other settings.
I guess that makes this column another potential resource for DMs, though of course I'd say the hooks in the Candlekeep Compendium are far superior!

Glad you pointed that out. I probably wouldn't have looked at them otherwise. (Nothing I against Eberron, it's a fine setting, but I only have so much time and energy). |

I've been reading the column since the beginning, since it can always be mined for ideas, once the Eber-whatsit references are stripped away. But I knew that having FR-specific material would be welcomed in these halls. |

Well met
Oh, I quite agree, Wooly
Interesting. As Eytan stated, I completely disregarded the series before, but now it's worth keeping an eye on. Perhaps it would be wise for us to keep a rolling list here of when FR specifics arise within the series. |

I can do that, since I already watch the WotC site for new stuff. |

I really liked this feature when I first saw it. But I was sad when I learned it would only be Eber-thing specific. So thanks to the people in this thread, I'll try to use the Calimshan one in my next campaign. |
And if the PCs DO win their ways through all the liches to Larloch, he will almost certainly be just another lich (loaded with explosive spells) set up as a decoy, with dozens of hidden liches waiting to pounce on any surviving PCs who celebrate after they take Larloch down. As the REAL Larloch watches (magical scrying) from afar. Myself, as DM, Id be wondering: Such a glorious game, so many opportunities laid out before your PCs to devote your time to, and THIS fixation is the best you can come up with? Are you SURE youre adventurers? -Ed Greenwood

Not real keen on having Spawn of Tiamat thrust upon the realms (Especially as Tiamat in the FR is more an Utherian deity than the goddess of evil Dragonkind) |

It depends on how they are 'thrust'. Dragons of Faerūn might be a darn good thruster for all we know.

According to P&P Tiamat wasnt even allowed outside of Unthers Pantheon until 1371 when she joins the Faerunian Pantheon |

I highly doubt that there will be an attempt to retro-fit spawn of Tiamat into the Realms using the "they were always there" line.

One would hope so but TSR/WoTC have for years had a "If its in Core then its in the Realms" policy............. |

Dragons of Faerun introduces dragonborn and spawn of Tiamat into the Realms. It does not take a "they were always there" tact. I think I wove it into the backstory pretty well, so it looks like it was "planned all along", but you all will have to be the final judge.

Hello-
I noticed the same thing also. I suppose its meant to be tied into the 'faiths of Eberron' book thats coming out - sometime soon-ish.
That being said - and from what little I know of Eberron in general (even though I'm playing in 3 different games set there...) the level of detail on the religions etc is somewhat lacking, at least from the perspective of FR. :) They deserve more detail just like the rest of us! And really - if you can't come up with plot elements based on the churches in the Realms, you just are not trying!
That being said - my Only fear would be a transformation of the 'Hook articles to wholely Eberron. I dont think that will happen though. We will have to wait and see. Perhaps they had a lot of good ideas - and we will get a separate one for the FR with three hooks in it!

Well, they were, originally, just an Eber-whatsit feature. It's just the last several that have been mix-and-match. I know what you mean, though; I want them to go back to the mixed format (or a wholly FR one!). |

I just want to know the man's fascination with that tiny part of Impiltur. That's the second hook he's placed in the region.

Yeah... It's not like there's anything interesting about Impiltur... |

Just pinged "Devilish Doings" at the Wizards site, which rather naturally has some strong tie-ins to FC2. Moreover, once again we are graced with two of the three 'hooks' being FR-specific (Raven's Bluff and the Western Heartlands, no less)!

D&D collection: Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, Monster Manual I, Complete Arcane, Arms & Equipment Guide.
FR sourcebook collection: Dragons of Faerūn, Faiths & Pantheons, FRCS, Lords of Darkness, Monsters of Faerūn, Player's Guide to Faerūn, Power of Faerūn, Races of Faerūn, Silver Marches.
I just got back into this, okay? Give me time (or better yet money) - I'll catch up soon enough. |

I just checked the pdf of The City of Raven's Bluff (available for free from the Wizards downloads page), and I didn't see Sharkey's mentioned in there. Is that new, or is it in the Living City material, which I have yet to obtain? |
