On the 20th of Feb the next installment of Steal This Hook was posted. Dungeon Dangers.

Only took a quick look at it nothing FR related in it but also I didn't see anything Eber-whatsit in it either. It's looks like it's mostly about the Dungeonscape book.

Turox Antas Dragonslayer -
"People will believe anything they want to believe, or fear to believe."
Wizard's First Rule: Chapter 36, Page #397, US Hard Cover (revealed by Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander).
Explanation by Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander: "People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool."

The lack of FR content is why I didn't comment on it.

We've got a new one. Unfortunately, only one of the hooks is FR. I want them to go back to the 2 out of 3 FR hooks format!

Its interesting that they keep throwning in "conversion" ideas on Ravenloft in the sidebars.

Hey there is a new one Steal These Evil Hooks for Evil Characters up at the site that contains a couple for FR. And both the Ebberit ones could be placed in Waterdeep IMO.

They must be listening to you Wooly. This time it's 2 out of 4.

Two out of four, huh? That's an improvement over the last couple...

I like the one about the familiar, especially the option of the cat being the old lady. Despite being set in Eber-whatsit, that hook is really quite generic.

The FR golem one offers a couple of intriguing possibilities...

The Westgate one is okay, but it seems that the author is not familiar with Cloak & Dagger.

Another one... "Please Help Me"

Oddly, this time it's one FR hook, one Eber-whatsit hook, and one Greyhawk hook.

Awesome, I'm glad they're paying attention to Greyhawk. It is odd though.

I missed the Complete Riding Dog joke the first time around, apparently.

In the "Campaign Adaption" sidebar for the Forgotten Realms hook, when it mentions books that would be useful, they had this link:

The Conversion Guide for the last plot hook has this to say.

quote:
Forgotten Realms: Because one of the key unstated elements of the Realms is that in every village you can find a powerful ex-adventurer running a tavern or something, you can pretty much start this adventure anywhere. Nations such as Sembia or Westgate would be interested in the magic for trade purposes and would support the research, while Cormyr or Thay or Mulhorand might be interested for more militaristic reasons.

Sigh.

A new one is up: Menace from the Undead

One each for Greyhawk, Eber-whatsit, and the Realms. But really, other than the names, any of them can be dropped anywhere -- which must be why they didn't bother with conversion notes.

A new hook came, with FR/Eberron/FR: Danger in the Wilderness

It uses the Points of Light concept, in a good way, IMO.

Wow, I figured they forgot about this feature.

Its may just be me, but some of the recent "core" conversions that mention the Harpers just seem to not fully "get" the organization. I guess I just don't picture Harper diviners hudled around scrying devices marking down information that Harper agents might then take and go look into.

I picture Harper agents knowing priests of Savras and various diviners, hearing tid bits of information from them, sharing it with High Harpers, and then maybe some of the High Harpers that have some skill in divination do their own checking in on these things, and when a course of action is chosen, I see Harper agents dropping a bug in the ear of the people that might be best for the job.

Granted, there is some difference between the Twilight Hall Harpers and the rest of the group, but I just don't picture the Harpers as Faerun's SHIELD, monitoring everything and dispatching agents left and right (yeah, I know, another comic book analogy).

Definitely not the Harpers. Everyone knows that there is a secret brotherhood of gnomes that actually guards Faerun and manipulates the actions of the other power groups. They are so secretive that they now are working towards making people forget that the long-nosed ones are forgotten by all the other folks of Faerun

A "Flying Fortress"-adventure is something I always wanted to do but hadn't the opportunity yet. Still, the way they realmsified the hooks make me sad. I don't know much about the area of Chessenta, but the one in the Dalelands was just plain depressing. Harpers acting like the author described them...

There are sooo many possible causes for a freak storm in the area, and the article fails to mention even one! Instead of having the harpers (or whoever would be better suited) speculating about zhentish influences, the Shades, bad guys from Sembia, a corrupt cormyrean war wizard, ancient netherese magic in the empploy of something from below the Desertsmouth Mountains (out of the Mines of Tethyamar) or adventurers foolishly activating magic they found in Myth Drannor... instead it's a generic wizard who "accidentally opened a gate to the Elemental Plane of Air".

[off topic]
Has anyone ever done a similar "flying fortress" adventure? I'm looking for creative ideas and interesting floor plans to re-use...

My first impulse was to recycle the floating tower from 3E's "Stronghold builder's guidebook" (interesting picture!), but it's layout is deadly boring.

Well, at least they didn't talk about how every other NPC in the Realms is an epic level character.

Well of course not! You know it's not every other NPC... It's every third NPC!

Well it cannot very well be anything but Realms hooks, since that's the only campaign thusfar 4th Ed-ified (pun and irony both intentional).

They could have been generic. The last few offerings under the Steal This Hook title have been generic, which is why they're not linked to here.
