Has anyone seen rules for adding a "Half" Template to a character AFTER theyve been created.
The Half Dragon Vargo Kent from CoR
The Daemonfey Sun elves found a way to bond with Demons A certain character in an FR novel found a way to bond with a celestial
All of them added their template as non racial templates ie they added the "template" at some point in their career which means they cant have used the Regular or Savage Progression systems as you have to take your racial levels first or be born with the Template which these characters clearly werent.
So have any of my fellow scribes seen a ritual for adding Half Dragon, Half Fiend, Half Celestial, Half Elemental etc Templates to a character as the result of a ritual?
The Nar Fiendbond spell cant be used on the caster

Isn't there that Demonskin class in 3E Wiz & Sorc book?.. Acolyte of the Skin is the class I believe.. Might add the sub-type, and over the course of class progression it adds something like a template.. Don't need to be born that way, but you do need to earn your way up in classes.. Not exactly the one easy spell and poof! you're a demonling spell you're looking for though.. And obviously your examples didn't have weird classes like that..
In any case, such a spell sounds a bit unbalancing for PCs, and if it's for NPCs why would you need a listed spell or rule? |

Half Templates do have Level adjustment listed so technically they could take it, however Im mainly looking at it for an NPC and the players will need to help the NPC gather the "Ingredients" for the ritual so im looking for suggestions of what might be needed to be done/used in the ritual

Yes, the Vile Death spell, which applies the fiendish template to an undead creature. The original version of Mantle of the Icy Soul counted too, as it permanently gave someone the cold subtype.
You have two options for pre-existing systems to do this.
1) The safer rules-wise one, but less flavorful: Use the ritual rules in Chapter 11 of Savage Species.
2) The more flavorful one, but more complex rules-wise: Use the incantation system from Unearthed Arcana. |

Ideas - Ritual requires any or all of the following:
A) Multiple casters (ideally enuff that at least one PC is required to help); B) Heart/essence of a dragon/demon/celestial/whatever, given either willing or unwilling; C) Rest of formula from book formerly held by Sage XYZ whose remains lie in Ruin ABC; D) Completion during certain time of day/year/century (thus allowing enemies a chance to try and stop it); E) Magic circle/pentagram inscribed with special dyes found only in certain hostile place; F) Convincing a powerful demigod/archdevil/elemental lord to bless the ritual; G) Sacrifice of some vaulable object/relic/person;
Basically pretty standard adventure fare..
