From the 2006 Questions for Ed Greenwood thread:

That said, the DMGII provided a few feats(Guildmaster and Favored In Guild) which allowed a character to gain more benefits/higher status in their guild, and City of Splendors: Waterdeep (the 3.5 sourcebook) provided details on how to join the Moonstars, Favored In Guild support, and a prestige class for them (Moonstar Agent). This is all of the top of my head, though-I haven't quite gotten to that part of the sourcebook myself yet.

From a factual standpoint, that's not true at all.

If you disagree, feel free to start a new thread.

So I have. I'm wondering what causes you to think this, because a quick look through the major milestones of organizations in 3e(the old class rulebooks, FRCS, Lords of Darkness, Complete Adventurer, DMGII, Champions of Ruin, and Champions of Valor) came up with exactly 1 organization that required a certain prestige class to join, and that was the Savants of the Flame back in Tome and Blood!

Additionally, the current Realms format definitely doesn't require you to take a prestige class to join an organization-it uses the Favored in Guild system, which doesn't hook into prestige class levels at all.

I don't know, maybe its just a communication issue, but not every Harper has a PrC class related to the Harpers, most Purple Dragon Knights don't have levels of Purple Dragon Knight PrC, and I'm fairly certain that there are members of the Hosttower of the Arcane, or the Watchful Order of Magists and Protectors that have no "Guild Wizard" PrC either. On the other hand, yes, only a Harper could be a Harper Agent, and only a Purple Dragon Knight could be a Purple Dragon Knight PrC. And as far as the "Favored in Guild" thing goes, that does just that, shows that you have a special standing in an organization, but again, not everyone will have that feat that is a member of a guild.

As I said, perhaps its a communication issue. No non-Harper Harper agents are runing around (unless you count former Harpers and Moonstars), but there are plenty of Harpers running around who have never learned anything about ANY PrC. I guess that is pretty clear to me from what I have read.

Agreed.

I was looking at what I thought was the evidence for this in the past, the Harper Agent PrC, but I couldn't find it-the description of the PrC specifically states not all Harpers have it. Hence, why I'm wondering why Sanshiver thinks this...

Some Prc classes and at least one come class (Paladin) imply the joining of an organization or a guild (the ramge is vast when both words are used). Many PrC imply an organization, Divine Disple of <foo> clearly indicates an order. Some PrC classes indeed one has to join, even the assasian is sort of expected to join the assassin guild to recieve sepcial training in poisons etc. Without training rules (which were a real bother under 1st Edition rules) there is a lot of room for inference of an underlayong organization.

How one defines an order most classed belog to one, even if they do not pay dues or offer a pledge of loyality to a superior.

"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards."
"Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding.
"After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first."
