These, in the day when heaven was falling, The hour when earth's foundations fled, Followed their mercenary calling And took their wages and are dead.
Their shoulders held the sky suspended; They stood, and earth's foundations stay; What God abandoned, these defended, And saved the sum of things for pay. |

My wonderful wife, who not only got me this, a laptop, and World of Warcraft for Christmas, also got me Neverwinter Nights 2. Working in the computer field as she does, and with a son that is on the Geek Squad at Best Buy, both of them were convinced my computer could handle the game, though perhaps not at "optimal" settings.
After I installed this, my computer more or less gave me the equivalent of an error message saying, "you have to be kidding me." So I guess I'll be waiting to play this until I invest in a few upgrades for ye olde computer.
But I do HAVE the game . . . |

That's funny. I bought my computer just to fit the game Well I bought it at the same time anyways. it is fairly up to date, but I still could not run it at optimal, close but not perfect. |

Knight Errant - you now have WoW. Be careful friend, it is addicting. Just ask any of my 10 Level 60 characters. :) If you need any help getting starting in WoW, do send a PM.

Can anyone tell me how this game relates to MMORPG's and such? I have never played NWN 1, so haven't any experience with it. Can you play online with NWN 2? Or do you play the main campaign and customized campaigns later, or what?
Secondly, what are the minimum requirements for your pc? Are the ones given correct? |

Neither NWN1 nor NWN2 are MMORPGs. However, there are persistant worlds people have created, and you can certainly play online. I don't know much more about the online aspect, though, since I only play single player modules, myself.
All modules (including the official campaigns) are essentially seperate from each other--that is, you don't HAVE to finish the official campaign before playing community content--you are free to ignore it if you wish. |

So can you meet up with other friends to play together or do you play individually with NPC's? |

Either or. It all depends on what YOU want to do. Personally, I prefer single player modules, but plenty of people enjoy multiplayer. |

Yeah, you can meet your friends online in a PW. There are miles of difference between the PWs though. Ranging from pure action, to Player vs. Player, to Role-Playing. I myself am member of the largest NWN2 Role-Playing community out there - ALFA. We're all about the realms, but that should be a given since I post here. |

By the end of Act 1 you should be 10-11th level I figure. I wanna replay (first time used a straight wizard), this time with a halfling rogue that perhaps goes the route of cleric or divine champion of some rogue-ish God. Maybe a few levels of fighter in there? Obviously I am influenced by Erevis Cale but with a shorter hint. :)
So... good builds? Anyone have suggestions? |

Don't use a build, use a character.

Why not try a bard? |

A bard wouldn't really fit with my idea. Maybe... hrmm...
And I like you using my own logic against me. HOW DARE YOU!
Besides... it's a video game. Might as well have a decent build. Just curious as to what ideas people had. Like some kinda rogue/fighter/cleric/divine champion/etc/etc/etc |

I stopped playing this game, and building, because I got extremely tired of the buggy camera collision. the story was great, but ... |

In my experience, most games (and especially the out-of-the-box official campaigns) are not so difficult that you need to make the most powerful build possible in order to survive. Granted, I've played some modules like that...but the official campaigns? Rarely if ever.
Besides, skills like Diplomacy are supposed to be very useful in the NWN2 official campaign, and no character shines at social skills quite like the bard. |

Finally after a month and a half got my computer back. Just have to reinstall thegame and finish it with my normal dwarven warrior.
I am going to try a Drow ranger with arcane archery if possible, next time, just so can be evil. |

I just wanted to let you guys know that Obsidian and Atari are bringing out an expansion to NWN2.
ATARI ANNOUNCES NEVERWINTER NIGHTS ™ 2: MASK OF THE BETRAYER Expansion to Neverwinter Nights 2 Features Engrossing New Campaign; Epic Levels; New Companions and Much More
NEW YORK – April 12, 2006 – Atari, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATAR), one of the world’s most recognized brands and a third-party video game publisher, today announced the development of the next chapter in the Neverwinter Nights saga – Neverwinter Nights™ 2: Mask of the Betrayer. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the expansion to the award-winning Neverwinter Nights 2 is set in the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS® Forgotten Realms® universe created by Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS). DUNGEONS & DRAGONS is under license from HPG, the licensing division of Hasbro. Neverwinter Nights™ 2: Mask of the Betrayer will be available in North America in Fall 2007.
In Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer, players are transported back to the Forgotten Realms shortly after the events detailed in the original Neverwinter Nights 2. Following the climactic battle against the King of Shadows, the player awakens alone and stranded deep beneath the earth. Surrounded by a horde of evil spirits, the player embarks on an epic adventure that reveals his true destiny.
“Atari’s commitment to the Neverwinter Nights franchise and the enormous community is strong,” said Nique Fajors, Vice President, Sales, Marketing, Atari, Inc. “We are on track to release the Neverwinter Nights 2 expansion pack this Fall, less than one year since the launch of Obsidian’s outstanding sequel, and are confident the new features will deliver a role-playing experience that further engages and satisfies fans.”
Set in harsh, spirit-rich Rashemen, near the powerful nation of Thay, Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer will present players with an exciting new campaign; epic levels; dozens of new feats and spells; new races, base classes and prestige classes; new companions; new weapons, armor and crafting options; hordes of new monsters; and enhanced modding tools.
“Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer’s engrossing campaign will conclude the storyline that began in the original Neverwinter Nights 2 and focus on combat, exploration and classic D&D dungeon-crawling,” said Feargus Urquhart, CEO, Obsidian Entertainment. “We’re also making new advances in story and character development as well as improving upon the acclaimed companion Influence System used in both Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords and Neverwinter Nights 2.”
The Neverwinter Nights franchise has sold more than three million copies worldwide, is translated into 10 languages, sold in more than 40 countries and features one of the largest and most active fan communities in all of gaming. To date, fans of the franchise, which includes Neverwinter Nights, Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide™ Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark™ and Neverwinter Nights 2 have created more than 5,000 modifications to the original game using the award-winning toolset included with the full game that allows players to create their own universes, quests and storylines.
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer is scheduled for release in Fall 2007. More information about Neverwinter Nights 2 can be found at www.nwn2.com, which includes user forums, project news, development updates and more.

Wow. I was worried with some of Atari's problems that NWN II wouldn't be getting any expansions that that NWN II would more or less be the end of the line. I also think its interesting that they set this in a non "mainstream" section of the Realms. |

As a fan of all iterations of NWN (AOL to present), I'm glad they're continuing to offer expansion support. Gamebanshee also has an interview up detailing a bit more on the expansion. |

Thanks for sharing those, Scererar. They're really comprehensive and useful sites! (Particularly the tweakguide!)

What? I've played through the game several times, and I have always managed to save Tavorick, with no ill effect on the game. |

Excellent. I was not able to and Tavorick and the remaining guards vanished afterwards, without my being able to talk with him. when I went back to lord nasher, he would tell me to go back and protect Tavorick. great that it worked for you my friend. I was stating my experience and what I found in the walk through I listed. |

I've been playing this since I got a new upgrade a month or so ago but it looks like most of the fan items for it are persistant worlds. Are there any modules that anyone recommends that are not persistant worlds?
Anyone have more info on when the expansion is coming out? The last press release was from 2006.....
My only complaint so far is that every so often I get a save bug that crashes the game and it wipes my saved file. :( So, I've been keeping 3 saved files for the same char just in case. It's some weird random save bug. I can do 20 or so saves and then all of a sudden the game shuts down and wipes my file. Mutter. |

I have not seen any good FR modules for this game yet. hmmm, It seemed that the original NWN had a bunch right off the bat. Sorry about your bug Kuje. I (knock on wood) have not had any bugs on mine yet. |

Aye,
Stupid bug. :(
And that was why I was asking, I couldn't find any good modules so I was hoping someone would have some that they enjoyed.... |

I haven't played any single-player modules for NWN2 yet (besides the official adventure), but why not check the "Top Module" list at the NWVault?

Fall 2007. Exact dates are rather shifty and can't be trusted (and the game could always be pushed back).
I'm looking forward to the expansion--it will be based around Rashemen and Thay! |
