The Knights of the Black Gauntlet are said to be the order of Banite Knights that took the City of Mintar. I was wondering if there was any lore out there that has information on this Knightly Order that I may not have seen.

Also, I am making an effort to find/create as many options for characters in the Black Network as possible.

So Far I have...

Zhentarim Spy (Players Guide to Faerun p. 77)
Zhentarim Sky Mage (Lords of Darkness p. 102)
Dreadmaster (Faiths and Pantheons p. 188)
Arcane Devotee of Bane (Players Guide to Faerun p. 48)
Divine Champion of Bane (Players Guide to Faerun p. 49)
Divine Disciple of Bane (Players Guide to Faerun p. 51)
Divine Seeker of Bane (Players Guide to Faerun p. 52)

Monk of the Iron Gauntlet (http://candlekeep.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5485)

Those are the ones that to me scream "Black Network". Other PrC's could obviously fit such as Blackguard, Assassin, Archmage, and many many others. But whant I'm really looking for are Prestige Classes specifically for the Church of Bane or the Zhentarim. (home-made Prestige Classes are welcome)

Thanks in advance.

kinda screams Bane, because he is the god of Tyranny. Paladin of Tyranny from Unearthed Arcana. Of course, I'd change the disease touch to something more tyrannical.

That is an excellent idea. What do you suggest for a change from Disease Touch? Maybe a frightful presence ability?

One of my half finished pet projects is a Knights of the Black Gauntlet class, it was based on the Paladin class

Hmmm, no, Tyrants are all about controlling people... usually through fear and bullying, but in a world of magic... sometimes simply seizing control no matter what. I'm thinking an equivalent 3rd lvl spell to contagion and remove disease. Something like maybe suggestion or lesser geas.

So Dargoth, you're thinking more along the lines of a base class than a prestige class? Is it similar to the Paladin of Tyranny in the Unearthed Arcana.

Any chance I can view your half finished project?

Suggestion is a good call. The fact that it's an Arcane Spell instead of a Divine Spell bothers me a little but it definitely fits Bane's portfolio. I suggested Frightful Presence because it's a ability of both the Dreadmaster PrC and the Initiate of Bane feat.

Sure

Ill trade you for your Monk of the Black Gauntlet PrC!

My Knight of the Black gauntlet class was eventually rolled into another as yet unfinished project, the Champion or Crusader Class which is a merging of he Paladin class and the Divine champion PrC

As for a suitable 3rd level spell how about one of the following

Disern Lies, Dolorous Blow or Mystic Lash

“I am the King of Rome, and above grammar”

Emperor Sigismund

"Its good to be the King!"

Alright, sounds like a fair trade. My Order of the Iron Gauntlet PrC is already posted in these halls.

Mystic Lash... yeah, that's definitely a spell for putting the masses in their place. Definitely screams Banite as well. Comparing it to other 3rd lvl spells though, it can do up to 4d6+ char. mod. electric dmg per round on its own for 1 rnd/lvl plus chance of stunning. This should be a spell that requires a feat to get it.

Also, the paladin's ability to remove disease (which this should be compared to) isn't all that useful. Similar should be this spell. I like the idea of discern lies. Another good one would be Know Greatest Enemy (a blackguard spell). Banites definitely are a group that would target the leader in order to cow the masses.

Make them into a substitition class. Like they did in Herous of Valor. The Gauntlets that is.

This is actually probably the best option because it is unlikely that an entire order of Knights would be high enough level to take a PrC and with substitution levels they can make themselves unique at level 1.

But I kind of like Prestige Classes so if it's something I try to create myself I would likely go with a PrC.

Hey Chosen of Bane

I finished the Crusader Class (The Project that the Knight of the Black Gauntlet evolved into) do you want to take a look at it?

Im sending it around to interested Candlekeep scribes for comment before I submit it to Alaundo.
