I ain't seen nothing like him In any amusement hall... (...)
He stands like a statue, Becomes part of the machine. Feeling all the bumpers Always playing clean. He plays by intuition, The digit counters fall. (...)
He's a pin ball wizard There has got to be a twist. A pin ball wizard, got such a supple wrist.
Welcome

[Bobs his head to the sound of Frey's excellent singing as he reads some scrolls penned by fellow scrbles since his last visit.]
(Hey, a little flattery can't hurt.)
It's a song by the band 'The Who.' It was also part of the motion picture "Tommy." Now, just so you know, I didn't know either of those facts when I read Frey's post. (I don't even know what the movie's about, though it might be about the band member of the same name.) But hey, I've got the Internet right here, which is a library even bigger than Candlekeep (just not as friendly ). I did a search, and came up with this. I even found the full lyrics:
Pinball Wizard ( The Who )
Ever since I was a young boy I've played the silver ball From Soho down to Brighton I must have played them all But I ain't seen nothing like him In any amusement hall That deaf, dumb and blind kid Sure plays a mean pinball
He stands like a statue Becomes part of the machine Feeling all the bumpers Always playing clean He plays by intuition The digit counters fall That deaf, dumb and blind kid Sure plays a mean pinball
He's a pinball wizard There's got to be a twist A pinball wizard He's got such a supple wrist
How do you think he does it? (I don't know) What makes him so good?
He ain't got no distractions Can't hear those buzzers and bells Don't see lights a flashin' Plays by sense of smell Always gets a replay Never tilts at all That deaf, dumb and blind kid Sure plays a mean pinball
I thought I was The Bally table king But I just handed My pinball crown to him
Even on my usual table He can beat my best His disciples lead him in And he just does the rest He's got crazy flipper fingers Never seen him fall That deaf, dumb and blind kid Sure plays a mean pinball |

I must be getting old...
I thought it was obvious.
Unless I am missing something even more subtle? Hmmmm...
Perhaps I think too much. |

Well, I don't listen to The Who very much . . . general oldies, yes, but nothing specific. In fact, as far as pop music goes, I listen to pretty much nothing more recent than the early eighties -- by choice, anyway. I certainly haven't heard that one before. I'm just a shut-in. |

Welcome ye magician of the glittering machines.
Hope you find a quieter repose within these walls then where the machines your name refer to normally reside.
Hmm... hope Winthorp isn't going to install one in the Candlekeep Inn...
Anways, well met Pinball Wizard |

It seems like everyday there is a new member. Everyday I turn on the computer, and go to Candlekeep and I see a welcome new member topic. Welcome to you, Pinball Wizard!

Welcome to Candlekeep. I am afraid we are out of pinballs but we have got quite a few wizards.
