Most of you know that I have been working on and off my campaign Triangle of Three. A Campaign that involves a great deal of Lathander (Amaunthor perhaps), Chauntea and Selune. It involves three devotee's to them. A Priest of Lathander (Sorcerer, Leader of a Temple) a Guardian (Warrior, Cleric Half Drow Female of a 'elite' group) and Follower of Chauntea (Druid, goes around blessing things in her name) - CotSQ has nothing on me! *evil grin*

Links for the above mention:
http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=7345989#post7345989 -Turning Demon's Away from Evil?
http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=7361196#post7361196 - Five Demons, a tie in

Anyways - Most of you also know (on the Wizards Forums) that about a month back there was heavy debate involving the Sorcerer using a Spell on a Demon. Basically, this spell takes the soul of being (Ie: Demon, the embodiment of a soul) and traps it into a diamond for a year. At the end of the year of see it's life back, it stands a chance of being labled 'good' instead of 'evil'. I decided that Lathander would easily allow this because he would consider it a Rebirth of a Soul. As you'll see in one of the topics mention, Zandilar came up with a great revision of this spell and doesn't sound so broken or easily done.
(I ask you check it out if you have any questions on it)

So, I got to thinking. After the Demon and Sorcerer go on this quest together by Him, what would the Demon (now a Cleric/Somethingelse) do? Well, why not try to do what was bestowed upon him? Why couldn't he begin a secret group of Redeemed Demons and Devils to Lathander? I could imagine that Lathander ingame would give, or let him earn, the things needed (level, skill points, item, etc.) temporairly for the task. They would have a great deal of responsbility, but at the end, Lathander would reward them by their souls being reborn into the species they once were before, to have a chance oncemore. I think I see this group being in golds, whites and soft creme colors. I don't know Lathander's color for sure, but I'm thinking it's the obvious ones. I see them decked out in holy symbols to Him, I think I see them mostly as Cleric/Priest based.

Do any of you have any thoughts or suggestions for this? What they're name might be, maybe classes they would have, etc. I'm sure I could come up with some stuff, but I know everyone here is agood at ideas also so I'd love some input and suggestions :)

Edit: Name for the group has been chosen. *Shimmies* What else now?

The Redeemed of the Dawn? I dunno just a name I came up with off the top of my head. :)

I like the colors.

Classes.... hmmm clerics are fine.....

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Redeemed is good, but I also like Redeemer(s) of Dawn? Dawn Redeemers? Dawn Walkers? Defenders of the Dawn?

In times like these its best to consult the almighty Thesaurus.

I like The Redeemers of Dawn, and it makes me happy you like the color suggetions Kuje lol.

I also like the Dawn Redeemers and Dawn Walkers. I could easily use one of those names to single out the Demon in question...

Anyone else have any other thoughts? I'd like to try my best at this.

Ooh! I had an idea I wanted to share with everyone.

Alright, so I was thinking. "Well...there are High Elves Mages. And if they all say the same spell..yadyaya...it's uber"

What if this group was given a couple of Prayers that could do the same thing??? How would that go, and should a template be applied to this group?

You mean like the spell is enhanced because more people are casting it at once? It depends on your group of players and how much you, as the DM, follow the rules laid down in the PHB.

I don't know if you need to go so far as a template. That seems like a lot of work to me. I would just go the route of deciding what the effects will be with added chanting. Afterall, this is a spell given by the gods, so only they could determine how really powerful it can and will be.

Of course, I am all for less work, more playing, so whenever people start talking about templates I get a little shy. :)

Well, here is what I was thinking so far - Tell me (everyone...) whacha think

When a Redeemed Demon/Devil comes out of the diamond, if it turns good, it would soon be sent on a quest set by Lathander. It would show a coulple of things to Lathander, allow the Demon/Devil to see a couple of things, etc. Anyways, at the end of this, Lathander would remove most (if not all) demonic/devil abilites from it.

So, it woul then have new abilites in place of it's old (duh) and would be a Cleric. Confused yet?

Sound fair? Not fair?

Edit: I forget which one I meant. It could have been Template or create a PrC...Bah.

A little roundabout, but pertains to the spell you're discussing. One of my players wanted to play a good fey'ri. I didn't tell him how I was going to let him introduce it, but I took a dungeon mag adventure that revolved around some lord who was researching a powerful sword that basically takes over its owner. If a certain ritual is performed a pit fiend takes over the wielder and is released from his capture. The sword was a very evil artifact and one of its abilities was to summon demons by name. The pit fiend happened to be the father of the particular fey'ri that was to be my player's character.
However, the pit fiend did not know that his son (the fey'ri) had been subjected to the spell which converted his alignment by trapping him in a diamond for a year. The pit fiend also didn't know that his son had been frozen in stasis by gold elves millenia ago, despite the fact that he was one of the inside agents that helped turn the tide against the Dlardrageth family (gold elves being rude gits after all).
Anyway, there's my party facing off against this pit fiend being reborn, and he summons his son (I ruled that the artifact power of this sword could free the fey'ri from stasis) to help protect him. The fey'ri turns around and attacks his father and helps the party kill the demon.
Anyway, in order to take on the template that the spell that turned him good gave, the fey'ri did have to give up some personal abilities. However, one of the abilities that he gained that I'd recommend removing or powering down is the one where they can fire lights from their eyes that damage evil things. Its been a while since I looked at the rule, but it basically bypassed DR and I think SR too, plus it was ranged touch. Just something to think about if you plan on using it.

Edited for content.

Yeah, that is kind of how that would play out if you will with the Demons and Devils. Scept they (or would they? No, they wouldn't) be possibliy summoned by a sword or whatever ;)
