Have any of you actually bought the platinum modules from Bioware?

Are they any fun at all? I didn't even know about them until I went to the website yesterday and saw them for sale. I was just wondering if it was worth it to purchase them.

Thanks!

They were OK. It is good for extending your NWN experience. BUT the real reason to buy them is Hordes of Underdark. Honestly if you played Undrentide and Hordes, the modules are NOT worth the $30-60 you might pay. If the modules came out separately for say $20 I would definitely recommnd it.

Yeah, I have both Hordes and Undrentide... had the original, then my wife bought me the Platinum set. Just wish I could have played a Drow in it like Icewind Dale II, but alas, it wouldn't have made much sense now. :)

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate you saving me some cash!

I've played Pirates of the Sword Coast quite a bit, and I think it is the best NWN module so far. If you have bought Undrentide and Hordes, and still not bored, Pirates is easily worth 10 USD.

With Pirates, NWN if finally becoming a pale shadow of the beloved BGII. Lots of action, interaction and some fun jokes as well. I grew very tired of Undrentide and Hordes at the end, but Pirates is lots of fun so far.

DO you think Never Winter Nights is better or worse that Baldurs gate? I think as far as games go, Baldur's Gate I and II are VERY hard to beat.

In fact... are there going to be anymore D&D Roleplaying games put out for the PC. Other than the Online game. That sounds like it will all be hack and slash.

Goodness, nothing beats the BG games. At first I thought NWN was horrible. But, it grew on me, and Pirates is quite good. But only a pale shadow of the BG games.

All things being equal, I think its difficult to compare Baldur's Gate (I or II) to Neverwinter Nights, as the two games, while both Roleplaying Games, were attempting to achieve separate goals. In the Baldur's Gate series Bioware was trying to create a very strong, single-player game with some multiplayer aspects (although, ultimately multiplayer in Baldur's Gate was more fun for a single player), whereas Neverwinter Nights was trying to be a decent single player and strong multiplayer game with the ability for players to create their own content. Assuming a similar development time, including all the time needed to create a new engine, it would be impossible for Neverwinter Nights to be as strong as single player game as Baldur's Gate. Ultimately, Neverwinter Nights is, in my opnion, a good game, accounting for what its designed to be. In all practicallity it would have been very tough to create a game in any reasonable amount of time that was a strong customizable and multiplayer game while also being a awesome single player RPG.

As for the platinum modules, some are decent (i.e. Pirates and Kingmaker), but too me its seems a bit like an amped up money-making ploy from Bioware, not that I blame them for trying to get our money. After all, capitalism rules, right?

Pirates of the Sword Coast was really fun, well designed, and had a strong Forgotten Realms feel. As far as how NWN compares to Baldur's Gate, personally, I like NWN much better, but the two are so different its hard to make a comparison. It really depends on what you like as a gamer.

I'm just hoping that NWN2 has more of the DM's toolkit going on. I never quite liked the interface of the first one. I'm sure they're going to do wonders with the program though... at least, they had better!!!

THEY ARE COMING OUT WITH A NWN2????

Is it an expansion or a new game. I was worried I was going to have to convert to MMOLRG to get my roleplaying fix (I am NOT a fan of online games). When will it be released?

Well, when the Bioware board itself allows for the speculation of the game, and when NWN did so well to begin with, I'm pretty sure that they will come out with the game... unless Dragonshard goes nuts on the world and they decide to focus completely with blinders on on that.

That would suck.

NWN2 has been in development for some time, by Obsidian - not Bioware, and has a segment of Bioware's fora devoted to it (moved from Obsidian's site in order to get more input from players of the original game).

There is a rumour going around that I have found god. I think is unlikely because I have enough difficulty finding my keys, and there is empirical evidence that they exist.

Ok, I knew it was something like that. I just hope Obsidian handles it well. But Kajehase, is Dragonshard going to be Bioware?

Speaking of which, how many of you are going to try Dragonshard out?

Don't even know what Dragonshard is. I only know about NWN2 because of the forum-highlights that NWVault post on a daily basis.

"Pirates" was fun, but I still thought "Kingmaker" was better--Kingmaker (a non-FR module, btw) has more interesting characters, a more cohesive plot, and new voice acting. The only downside was the "rushed" feeling from the upcoming election quest.

Still, there is something about being a pirate on the Sword Coast that I found very appealing.

So, are you recommending Pirates or not? :)

I am planning on buying Kingmaker in that new package that is coming out today or tomorrow, or whenever it is being released.

Question - how hard is it to get a multiplayer game going?

Yes, absolutely. I'm just not ready to agree that it's the "best premium module put out so far". I did feel that way at first, but a while after playing it--on careful thought--I changed my mind.

Seems someone has made a module based on Four From Cormyr. I've not played it yet myself, but here's the link: http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Modules.Detail&id=4422
