After reading Champions of Ruin, it got me wondering of the relationship between The Emerald Enclave and The Eldreth Veluuthra. Have the two organizations ever crossed paths and are there cases of them working together?

Whilst I can see that the Emerald Enclave may shun Eldreth, Eldreth's goals may benefit from Enclave activity. Would Eldreth agents work with elven Enclave members perhaps?

Any thoughts?

I don't see why not, depending on what each hoped to accomplish. I would, however, think that it's more likely that EV members would try to manipulate the Emerald Enclave into doing their dirty work...

And I'd think the leaders of the Enclave would be smarter then that. Especially since they are Chosen of 3 deities all at the same time. :)

But I could maybe see them working together....

Well, I could see individual members of the Enclave being manipulated by the EV. I certainly couldn't see the entire group being manipulated, but a few members here and there is an entirely different matter.

Aye. I could also see the Enclave doing the same to EV. :)

Hmm... but aren't there human members in the Emerald Enclave? Wouldn't the Eldreth Veluuthra refuse to work with them just for that reason?

Considering that, Wooly's earlier suggestion of manipulation would probably seem to have more validity. But then, given the human presence in the Enclave, and the always increasing hatred for humans inherent among the elves of the EV, I suppose even manipulation itself would be just as unlikely.

I don't think the Eldreth Veluuthra would ever like to admit, either in public or in private, that they'd relied on humans to achieve their ends.

Of course, one must also not forget about the wonderful details concerning the Uluuth Phlarenn contained within the 2e Cloak and Dagger tome... .

As Big Al pointed out, they're in Champions of Ruin. Also, info on them can be found in Lords of Darkness (if I remember correctly, that is) and the 2E book Cloak & Dagger.

Actually... If they played their cards right, they could turn the EE against other human groups, and then sit back and watch the fun as humans slaughter each other.

Then how about Lords of Darkness?

There is a rumour going around that I have found god. I think is unlikely because I have enough difficulty finding my keys, and there is empirical evidence that they exist.

I'd thought about that. But I came to the conclusion that maybe some of the Blade Lords wouldn't make the effort to associate themselves with human groups, like the EE, regardless of whether they had the opportunity to manipulate these groups onto a path that leads to their demise.

The hatred for the humans among the EV runs THAT deep...

'Tis true. But I can certainly see some of the more pragmatic ones doing it.

I agree... EV surely has a hundred plots (or maybe a bit less ;) going on in different parts of Faerūn, and sure as hell have spies, informants and diplomats (=manipulators) among humans.

I think this is only a matter of perspective. For example, I certainly would see that it“d be possible (and even plausible) to write up a storyline involving EV with the events of the Abraxus affair, eventually leading up to the death of Azoun (perhaps the Red Wizardess who influenced those nobles had been manipulated in turn by the EV, for example). I could even take it as far as plunging Cormyr into a civil war through their machinations... with several strings pulled by the EV members (perhaps involving even the Fire Knives?). Sounds crazy? But it might have been possible even in "canon" Realmslore...

What about the EE manipulating the EV, say in the Chondalwood where the EV is making significant progress?

What if the druids of the EE somehow tricked low level EV members into doing their bidding? As long as the EE didn't show up on the EV's doors as a bunch of human druids, it might work.

The mere fact that there are human Druids in EE would prevent communications/orders coming FROM EE to EV. However, I could imagine that EE would make several attempts at getting a working relationship with EV going, thus making themselves succeptible to EV's manipulation: The first few "peace offerings" would probably be met with arrows in the neck, at the very least. Then a Druid could get "lucky" and run across an EV that didn't kill him on sight (say, an Elf EE) and gets caught in a series of "well, if you do this for us... you didn't do so well last time, but we'll give you *another* chance..." to the point where the EE *thinks* they're working together.

Then again, I've always had the EE leadership as not quite what they think they are. In the 2E red Complete books, at 12th (I think) level a Druid had to best another Druid to advance - but if he lost, would he know it? Under 3.5 rules, the leadership of EE ceased progression as druids, progressing as a cleric while thinking they were advancing as druids. (Similar to how the Ronin PrC and Samurai class in CW work)
