Beat you. I said 2 hr's ago it was going to be updated. :) |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

I meant proof of an actual update. Why do you think I was checking the WOTC site? I saw your post. |

The first two installments look quite promising. I'm wondering now whether the series will be a straight 3.X translation of the Undermountain boxed sets, or whether things will be updated to the 1370s DR. In other words, if I see Kuthil's kobold ambush in a couple of months (when the events of Stardock got him and his buddies out of Undermountain), then I'll know it's a straight translation, not an update. All in all, I'm looking forward to seeing more.

While a strict translation is good, an updates edition would be better.
And, if it could tie into the upcoming release of the City of Splendors tome... Well that would be just grand .

It should be since he created the metal creatures found in the lower levels. :) |

I'll be more amazed and impressed if they remember to factor in the changes and details from an Undermountain article I'd done for DRAGON long ago (long enough that I don't remember the issue #, but it wasn't the Skullport article--more to do with a priest of Deneir keeping notes and updates of things happening in Undermountain).
As George said, what we've seen looks impressive. Here's hoping it's all this good.

Are you referring to "The Reports From Undermountain"? That one was in issue 227, and was told by a Tymoran priest, Adama Miiralln. 'Tis another I have taken the time to copy over to Word.
Other Dragon articles on Undermountain:
Issue 167: "Understanding Undermountain" Issue 172: "Seeing the Sights in Skullport" Issue 176: "If You Need Help -- Ask The Drow!"
And I have those in Word, too.
Anyway, I, too, hope they keep your changes in mind as they do these articles. |

Don't we all...
I remember that I missed the article for the changes to Skullport. Still, if they're attempting to re-create Undermountain for 3e, it would seem "unfinished" if they were to not at least mention or detail the additions and changes that have been made in the past. It would be nice. . Whether it happens, is another consideration itself... .

Shall I pass it along? As I say, I have it conveniently in Word... Although I have to admit, the map came out a bit blurry when I copied it over. But hey, all the other info is legible! |

I would appreciate that .
After looking through my archives, I've also noticed that my copy of Dragon #227 is severly crumpled. Could you possibly send those details along as well?

I'm not entirely sure why, but I'm finding the 'Relevant Skill Checks' side-bar a little annoying.
I know they're only suggestions, but I prefer setting my own DC for specific skills in these types of adventures.

I kinda like the format they have set up.

Nothing to say you can't adjust them.
Is it just me or is this room very generic? I know every room can't be overflowing with Realms flavor. However, I wonder if this series is going to turn into "Adventure Locales" part II. |

Nothing to say you can't adjust them. I just realised . I hadn't read the article properly to begin with... and I'd just assumed that they were 'sugggested' values for the skills to be used.

I felt the same way when I skimmed over the article. I thought it was because I skimmed over it that it read "bland". However, taking the time to read through it properly, a tidbit or three of useful Realms information would've been nice. But then, as what is fast becoming known as "the WotC way", these articles have to be generic so that DMs from other settings can make special use of them as well.

Why even be teases and have them in Undermountain? If they want a generic series of rooms for a dungeon, they can create something for use on the regular D&D page. |

Why? Because they think that it'll keep us happy. It be nice if they cared enough to ask for an opinion, but we know they won't do that.
And you know, at the rate of one room a week, it's going to take over a year just to cover Level One. |
