Well my friends, I come back to forum, after a long time without any post, and in this time I've heard about the creation of a new movie about D&D, something like D&D II, someone can tell me if is it true? I hope it isn't because I hate D&D movie, it is terrible.
And, for the people that still didn't forgot me, I'm creating more things like "the capoerist" and I'll post here in a short time(or I hope to do it)...

I do understand that there was some develpment plans for another movie, however develpment plans are a long didtance from making a movie.
I know of many movie proposals that have been undergoing stages of develpment that takes 5 to 15 years. |

From what I heard, it's not only true, but they are also making D&D III. Both D&D II and III will be 'straight to video' movies.
Also, I guess they are getting the main character back, but of course not Jeremy Irons, the Wayans guy, or Thora Birch. |

I'll probably buy them no matter if they suck or not. Well, yeah I most definitly will having no self control at all.
DM: A broad shouldered man stands before you, his chiseled frame and grim visage exuding malevolence. He wears dark leather and bears a sword on his hip. His face looks as if chiseled from stone, every line deep with hatred and anger. His shadowed eyes and blue lips purse as if to-- Elf: Wait wait, he's wearing lipstick? Dwarf: Damn, even the bard's not sissy enough to wear makeup Halfing: HAAAAH HA HA! Is he wearing curlers? DM: No, he's bald! Shut up! He's really scary looking! Dwarf: Pff, sure, sure he is. Bald with blue lips. Grim visage my ass! You want this one? Elf: Yeah I got it, but you handle the scrawny-ass overacting wizard.

I made the mistake of spending money to see the first movie. Five minutes into it, I expected to see Jeremy Irons wringing his hands and cackling maniacally, like every clichéd evil guy. Ten minutes into it and I was verbally spouting my hopes to see someone, anyone, get naked so there was something woth watching. Needless to say, there was a total of 12 people in the theater at this time, and all must have played D&D, because when I screamed, "A thief has about NO chance to use an artifactual wand! Read the DMG!", everyone there clapped.
Folks, if you think we have a bad enough stigma playing D&D, this movie, and any others that are coming out, WILL NOT HELP. Let's just stick with the Lord of the Rings movies (and, Gods willing, the Hobbit if Jackson can do it), and stay away from Marlon Wayans!
Thank you, I'll push the soapbox back into the corner. |

There has been at least one thread devoted to this subject already. Try doing a search for it and if you have any trouble finding it let me know.
And yes, it's true...just when you thought it was safe to go see a movie... |

i once heard that Hollywood was going to shoot a "Drizzt Trilogy" starring Chow Yun Fat as Drizzt
has anyone heard of that, it would be awesome!!!
--the idea was to make the movie of the first 3 books--
and plus i agree with zimeros that they do not make a D&D movie again. at least they must not shoot the continuation(lack of english) of the first-it was a shame |

"Based on the phenomenally successful role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons 2 takes you deeper into the dark and fantastical world of this fantasy epic. When the evil sorcerer Damodar braves a perilous whirlwind vortex to steal the elemental black orb he declares a sinister plan of vengeance against the kingdom of Ismir. Berek, a decorated warrior, and Melora, an amateur sorceress join four heroes representing Intelligence, Wisdom, Honor and Strength to battle against Damodar's growing army of gruesome creatures, flying harpies and an ice dragon to reach a vault room holding the orb. Together, they build their own army to retrieve the orb using elemental forces to defeat Damodar before he summons the sleeping black dragon whose omnipotent evil powers could lay waste to the entire kingdom."

I like Bruce Payne so if he's reprising his role as Damodar I hope they drop the blue lips thing. |

Unfortunately movie studios aren't like Radio Delilah where they listen to requests. If as previously mentioned, the last D&D movie made a profit, then that and the belief that LOTR fans will rush to see another fantasy movie fueled this production. |

Yup. Hollywood is known for taking a concept and milking it to death before moving on to something new -- if they even move on then! |

I'm surprised only because I didn't think the first D&D movie made that much money. |

It's slightly off. I believe the reality of the situation was that the Realms got licensed/contracted/whatever out to the production company that was (at the time) making Hercules and Xena. However, the deadline to get something under production came and went and the license thus expired.

Indeed, the only figures I have seen don't show a profit. Of course, that's not factoring in sales and rentals of videos and DVDs which might make up the defecit. |

Having seen the odd episode or two of those shows, all I can say is a heartful "Thank Lurue!" that the license expired.

Interesting numbers, however they might not tell the entire story.
I have heard claims that the accounting system used is involved that it is not clear when real costs have been paid. A pratice that appeared to evolve from actors that had a percentage of profit as part of their pay.
Even the numbers you offer cite "Production Budget" as oposed to Production actual costs. |

Bah! When Hercules and Xena had a story-arc both shows were good television, it's the random filler episode or over-the-top episode that yucked it. |

You obviously saw a lot more episodes than I did.
Seriously, I have friends who were fans of the show, and even they wouldn't call it good TV. |
