True, and I can accept that, but there are other types of 'advancement' (not necessarily harware technology) that one would expect to occur.

Moving from one type of stateform to another for instance. Or things like printing presses (they exist in Waterdeep) leading up to wider printing of books and other items...

Also even within magic there is not much advancement. A fireball spell form the early hundreds DR is still the same as the 1370's fireball...

Keep in mind one of the reasons for technological advances: a need to do something better or easier. A fireball is pretty effective -- if you want something better, learn more powerful magic. I'd say that the spell has already been developed as far as it can be developed.

Yes, good point... I guess a nail will always be a nail. But even on the higher level spells... it is almost as if much of the plethora of spells has been (or should have been) around for ages.

With elven high magic, the Netherese and even before them the Ssarukh... These were all powerfull spellcasters who would have been able to come up with almost all of the known spells by now - making the current wizards more or less copy-cats...

Yesss, I love Selunarra, too

It is the perfect place for such a little bardic maniac like me. I loved the old concept of the city of Opus, I love Lillends and I love the Gates of the Moon

Yet I don't think that Selunarra/Opus would come back to Toril (heck, who would want to leave such a beautiful place?) simply because of the (mainly) peaceful inhabitants. Spies or agents, maybe. Bards and artists make great Agents, don't they?
With their profession they could get their entry anywhere (even if I doubt that the Shadovar woul be too friendly towards them)

It is all just a past and future secret

I have this book as well and was very pleasently surprised, I love all the detail in it and the other information that they added, giving time lines and the such, I absolutely LOVE the art work as well.

So I have to say it is very much worth the price.

History is written by those who survive such terriable times, and every person is a hero, and every person is a villan it depends on who's telling the tale.

Speaking of pleasant surprises...am I correct regarding Arallia Silverbow mentioned on page 145 that this is the first time she's been featured in any product?

The name doesn't ring any bells... Have you checked Kuje's NPC file?

Why do that when I have scribes here to consult? And it doesn't ring a bell for you from LEOF either?

Doesn't ring a bell with me either and yes I checked Kuje's NPC file. :)

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Senile I might be. But I can't believe I'm the first one to mention this very cool new NPC. Veddy interesting who she's tied to.

Ah yes Indeed,
I was surprised to see her in there and I am curious if she will be in any of Mrs.Cunningham's up coming books :D Then again I can be concidered an Elaith Fangirl, I encountered him way back in 1st edition when the only information on him was in the little thin Waterdeep and the North book, didnt know how much of an impact he would be making in up coming years, and its listed that he worships Ereven Eralis.(Sp)

I don't know about charming *lol* it was quiet an interesting encounter though I might add. He is appealing, yes that is the word I use for him.

'Appealing' is appropriate, too. Was this encounter something that happened in a campaign?

Yes it was.
Try winding up in his tavern getting in between a fight between two people, having him show up to put a stop to the nonsense, the barbarian grabbed me and flung me into Elaith. ( I took half my hit points in that hit) and in the insueing madness I wound up with Elaith's leather pouch instead of my own.

Which got me into no amount of trouble with some less then friendly sorts in Waterdeep's Back ally's. Then going through the trouble of tracking down said moon elf to get my pouch back and I was a sun elf.

I'd be curious to find out which scribe for LOEF put her in there and was there any communication to EG or EC before this insertion took place.

Now you see, that's appropriate use of a prominent NPC. No killing Elaith just to kill him or saving him from some horrible fate, but just using him to enrich the encounter and have some fun. Your DM sounds very wise.

Indeed. I wish more DMs realized that that was the purpose of most NPCs...

Yes it was an interesting encounter to say the least, and I managed to get stabbed only once in the whole thing, and by one of Elaith's thrown daggers none the less, though it wasn't my fault. *lol* Maybe I should just post the story of it in a thread over in Adventuring lol so you can all get a laugh out of it. ^^
