She's new - sort of. The original write-up of the House of Stone (way back in Dragon #127) noted that Elaith Craulnobur was sending his cronies to the place to explore it on his behalf. Well, one of his cronies - Arallia - just got a name as of LEoF.

Yep, I recall that write up and immediately thought of it when I saw her name. Thanks for letting me know for certain that she's new. |

I don't think we've seen anything more (significant) on the House of Stone? Although I may have missed something now, on second thought...

They reviewed it in one of the current Dragon Magazines and it's mentioned in Mintiper's Chapbook. Thats about all I can say on it, but thats probly already known. |

Ed did a "Volo's Adventures" article on it in DRAGON and some of that info made it into LEoF. Basically, the House of Stone is a big, sucker trap for orc hordes. Has been since we saw Ed's original musings on it back in the early Fallen Kingdom research days (1998). It's a 'hollow' fortress with lots of inner courtyards to lure in and trap orc attacks. The outside passages and rooms on its exterior don't connect with the inner rooms/courtyards except in very few, easily defencible ways. Nasty.

I just got myself a copy of Lost Empires of Faerun, and I have to say I absolutely love it. This type of sourcebook is my favourite, where it's filled with pages and pages of Realmslore and stories of events that had happened.
One thing that kinda surprised me was the amazingly large number of epic level wizards and sorcerers that were introduced in it. I mean, I expected info on Larloch and Ioulaum, but then there's all these liches, archliches, baerlnorn, etc that are hiding out all over Faerun surrounded by large amounts of treasures. |

Well to be fair, there is over 100 21+st level wizards even in 1e and 2e. Epic level wizards in the old lore basically out number any of the core classes. |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Yeah but thats what makes the realms so special, just because there not written about there, there to be expanded upon...to take and incorporate and flesh out. Its why I enjoy so much information of them. |

One thing that really interested me in LEoF was the mention about a Netherese city that was saved by Selune. Supposedly, they went to Realmspace and have been out there as long as the Shades have been in the Planes of Shadow.
Then there was another part about how there was some artifact in a tavern in Waterdeep that would allow a worshiper of Selune to call the city back, kind of like how the Shades were called by Melgaunt.
Do you guys think it's likely that this would happen in a novel series in the near-future? You know, having them return to balance out for having the powerful Shades return to Anauroch. |

Not Realmspace, to Selūne's domain.
I'd like to see that happen in a novel... And since it involves stuff from the comics (Kyriani and Selūne's Smile), then Jeff Grubb should be the one to write it. |

It's possible. But, I'd be a bit surprised to see it happen within the next year or two. I think with the trilogy devoted to the Shades return, that the novel department might not return to this area until some more time has passed.
But, just my two coppers....who do you see as a possible writer if such a novel series were to take place? |

Hmm... well, I would hope it would be either Richard Lee Byers or Richard Baker. The two of them have shown the readers that they can write about epic events with The Last Mythal and The Year of Rogue Dragons. |

I have Lost Empires of Faerūn.
#1. I think that, such an important book should have the same size as the Forgotten Reals Campaign Setting (320 pages). There is so much that need to be detailed.
#2. The map in page 48 - 49, The Year of the Oaths Forsaken (-626 DR) is great. However, that is it. No more maps. More maps please.
#3. More figures regarding size of lost empires. For example, how big was (square miles) Anauria? How many did live in Anauria? What was the size of its capital. For me, figures help me to understand and compare lost empires with todays FR lands.
The chapters that are of most interest to me, are ...
Chapter 6. Fallen Netheril Chapter 8. The Dream of Cormanthyr
The greatest surprise, and what I liked most, was the history of The Mines of Tethyamar.
Finally, I am waiting for Lost Empires of Faerūn II. I assume ... that I will be dead the day such a book is printed. |

I understand such feelings. However, more pages means more cost. And it's apparent that WOTC does not feel the majority of consumers would pay for such a lore filled tome that had a higher cost.

I'm just grateful we got a map. It seems that the trend in recent FR products would be towards fewer and fewer maps.

Do you have the 2e tomes devoted to ancient Cormanthyr? If not, I highly recommend them for your library.

I would argue with the authors on some their choices for domains, but I was most disappointed what they had done with Moander. So I changed the list followingly: Chaos, Corruption, Destruction, Evil, Plant (Slime remains optional, since Ghaunadaur, at least in my opinion, is the deity more associated with slimes and oozes)

I won't provide a review as I was reasonably involved in creating the product but it looks even better in print than it did as a bunch of computer files. Flicking through, I'm just delighted to see that most everything got included: information on Larloch, the story behind Ioulaum and the Terraseer, mythals, lore, history, dates - pretty stupendous and a credit to the designers.
This product will form the backbone of most every FR campaign that seeks to scratch the surface in years to come.
I'd be very interested to hear what you all think - when you get a copy of course.

I think this is a good product, with some of the juiciest parts regarding Netheril“s history - I really liked what you did with Terraseer and Iolaum! These two NPCs are both illustrous examples of what you can do with existing Realmslore (or NPCs) if you only dare to be bold enough. Marvelous stuff!
I would have loved to have more new Realmslore on Netheril“s survivor states, though Most of the stuff concerning Anauria, Asram and Hlondath have already been published in Anauroch, I think?
I also would have loved a more accurate timeline regarding even the smallest kingdoms mentioned in previous supplements (such as Esparin in Cormyr).
The prestige classes also seemed a lot more thought out that than what I“ve usually come to expect out of a WoTC product.
I also noticed - as surely some others have - that the listed Domains for the ancient deities seemed to lack someof the alignment domains, for example Bhaal didn“t have Law. Also, I would have associated Moander more with Plants than Slimes...
But this is nitpicking - this a great book, and a great source for information for all Realms DMs.

If you need more information on Tethyamar, there“s an adventure by Bill Sweeney called “Return to the throne, part 1“ which I think could be still be available for download on some web pages?
Maybe it“s outdated now that in official canon king Ghellin has died, but if my memory serves me correctly, I recall that this was a relatively well-written module which concerned the Iron House gathering a host of the clans in attempt to retake the Mines of Tethyamar.
