Hello-
Well - ive only bought 5 boxes as of now - hard to afford more ATM.
Anyway - I was able to get the poster for the set from the store, and I noticed that the picture of the Griffon Cavalry seems to have a grey brain-like rock on the base - assumedly to provide some counter-ballance to the figure. I managed to get one of them in my first box - and while I like the mini - it does not stand up on its own well.
I was wondering if anyone knew if said 'rock' was supposed to come with the mini - or should I just get one out of the garden? :)

The "Rock" is meant to be a cloud. apparently the GC does suffer from balance issues althought the 2 I got seem to be quite sturdy |

| I used one of my Greenspawn Razorfiends last night against my PCs, (a 7th level ranger/druid, a 7th level duskblade, a 6th level rogue, and a 5th level cleric) and it was a heck of a challenge for them. I've really gotten into using the minis and stat cards for encounters that I don't stat-out. Granted, I have LOTS of minis, but I can always find the perfect CR challenge for my PCs, and those little cards are much easier to use and keep organized than having the MM, FF, MoF, etc, scattered all about. |

Hello-
I was at the D&D Minis seminar at GenCon. There were a LOT opf Minis fans there - mostly from what I could tell - from two groups of people:
1) Players of the D&D Minis game. Much of the audience. They used terms and phrases that are not completely unfamiliar to me - but lacked definition in the context. (I dont play the Minis game, though I may in the future - just for something different.)
2) Those in the Minis 'business'. What I mean by this is - those who buy/sell the minis for profit.
All in all - a lot of Very fanatical fans.
That being said - They actually HAD the solar and Pit Fiend, as well as the water elemental at the seminar. However - I could not get that close - and the seminar went long - so we had to clear out. There were lots of fans with cell phone cameras, and real cameras crowding around to get pictures. I'm glad the previews are up - so I can get a better look.
One other thing of note out of the seminar was that they are continually looking at other distribution methods. Someone suggested a 'best of' from some of the older sets - sold not randomly, but as a 'you get these' type of thing. Larger minis (like the Huge ones) were suggested to be sold as their own 'mini-set', with say 24 differet minis, getting maybe 1-3 in a box. Just all ideas - their responce was that they keep looking at the cost analysis to see what will work.
One other side comment was that part counts (bigger minis) directly affect the price per figure (obviously) as does the paint scheme. The Purple Worm was mentioned as being a 'good bargain' - it has 5 pieces apparently. Its the only D&D Mini I bought at the Con - singly for $5.
Another interesting tidbit. The 'clear' minis are actually Very clear - the Huge Fire Elemental (HFE) - is painted that color. If you were to dip it in paint thinner - you could get a Clear Elemental. Just the process they use. Could almost take a HFE and 'clear' it - and paint it blue or brown to get a water or earth - but its 'parts' look 'flamy' - so it probably would not work.
Clear bases were suggested - but wont probably work because they are usually molder along with the figure - and its cheaper to use black plastic as the base than clear. (* it was suggested I think so that terrain features could be seen more easilly *).
I actually made a suggestion for a promotional mini that would be Cheap to make! A base-only mini that is either an unseen servant, or an invisible stalker - complete with a stat card etc - just no 'mini', as it would be invisible. They apparently have thought of that before.
And as for the Gelatinous Cube. There was discussion. It might happen, one day. One aspect that they seem to want to do with it - is to make it 'hollow' and openable - so that you could put a trapped PC inside the cube. Neat - but I'd just be as happy with a cube with 'stuff' in the middle (a skeleton, a weapon or two, coins, etc) that has a flat top so that I could put a swallowed PC on top of it. No worry about hinges etc that way. :)

I am collecting the D&D Minis. I would be more than willing to trade with people. You can send me a PM here with your email listed - and I can send you my minis list. Thanks!
