After reading the Forsaken House and doing some digging into various FR things, I can't seem to shake the feeling that there's something more to it. Follow my thoughts (sorry for the randomness) and see if there's something there.
Per the article, Khelben was part of the group who raised Myth Glaurach’s mythal. Won’t this mean that when Sarya was changing the Mythal, he should have known.

Conspiracy theory/questions?
Is this the threat that Khelben saw when he started the Moonstars?
Did he allow this to happen for the Elves to come back to the mainland?
Seems so coincidental that some of the hooks to this came from the Moonstar group.
Mintiper Moonsilver being witness to things inside Hellgate Keep.
Mistmaster’s role in the destruction of Hellgate Keep.
Khelben’s non-interference with the Mythal change.
