Hey everyone from Candlekeep :)

You may or may not have noticed a decreased frequentness in posts recently - I hav had a lot on my mind. I am currently suffering from depression and insomnia, and am soon to be going into college. I have come to a decision that I need to try and focus on my work and social life, and regret that I'm not going to be frequenting these halls any more.

I'm also quitting my PBeM - my sincerest apologies to Chris and the others - and my contribtions to Candlekeep, which I haven't worked on for a long time, will for the moment have to remain on my PC.

D&D - especially Ed's lovely Forgotten Realms - is a great hobby, and it will continue to interest me. I will perhaps stop by here now and then - Amazon have yet to deliver an order containing Silver Marches, the Dark Elf Trilogy, and Serpent Kingdoms, which I hope to put out an opinion on . I suppose in the distant future I may even become active again, when things are sorted out. But for now this is goodbye to people who made me feel very welcome and not alone.

Kieran,

What you are facing are serious issues. The fact that you recognize this and are taking steps to alleviate your suffering speaks loudly about your character. I hope you don't hesitate to turn to assistance from others in whatever form to help you with this situation.

God bless and take care of yourself.

Sarelle, may the Fates follow and favor you wherever you go. May the demons you spoke of fall at your feet.

Sweet water and light laughter.

I know everyone here at Candlekeep looks forward to your return. We'll trudge on in the PbEM, and we'll keep a spot open for you. At the rate we're going it will probably be less than a week in game time when you're ready to get going again.
Take your time and visit often!

Well met, Sarelle and fair ye well

I am certainly saddened to hear of this, and I hope that ye feel yourself soon enough. A break from the norm of life and new challenges and environments often work wonders, and I, on behalf of us here at Candlekeep, wish ye all the best.

...and who knows, mayhaps ye will travel back this way once again on your travels... nevertheless, i'll ensure your desk is kept free, just incase ye should return

Good luck in thy ventures and life, Sarelle. Take care of thyself.

Kieran, college is tough, and its very important. I tried to work part time and go to school full time but it didn't work out I couldn't give my homework near the amount of attention it needed. So as having been there I'll tell you what I wish someone would have told me then Set your priorities and if school is your prioity then give it all of your time and attention to do the best you can while your there.
You can always come here anytime but school is something thats really best to get it done and over with as soon as you can
I wish you the best and will be praying for you. Take care

I was faced with the same challenges as Sarelle and Wood Elf speak: work and school at the same time. For me it was impossible, as a Mechanical Engineering degree required 8am to 4pm classes, Mon-Fri, and an average of 3-5 hours of homework, lab experiments, and various report-writing afterwards...

So I joined the military, which allowed me to just go to school, all food, lodging and tuition paid, and with an extra $500 a month in beer money...

But there was a catch: that 5-year mandatory period of service afterwards.

What I'm here to say is the following: PLEASE DON'T JOIN THE MILITARY NOW, especially not in dire times of suffering or need, for this would be for the wrong reasons. Joining the military should be a serious life-goal, a crucial decision taken after several years of evaluation.

The free school part worked great for me, but in my case, the sad realities of military service came crashing down and had me wanting to come out of there about one and a half year afterwards. I served my time, the whole 5 years... but these were the longest 5 years of my life friend.

Yes, cut back on gaming, on dating, on travelling, whatever works to get through school while still being able to work... try scholarships, grants, anything, but DON'T JOIN THE MILITARY.

Ye have been warned. Good luck buddy!

Excellent point PDK. I don't think very many people would pick that option right now with the war going on but when I graduated high school my best friend chose that option since now you you only have to serve 2 years to be able to get the college funds. Well guess what after 2 years was up about half a year later we go to war and he gets called to Iraq... and I haven't heard from him since... I sure hope he is ok...

But I am very thankful that he did not persuade me (though he did try very hard to) to join the army. It may look like a good deal if your short on cash and for some people it is good if thats what they really want to do. But for the majority its best to just slug it out and get through college asap to get your career job then pay off your college debts if you have any.

These are serious problems, take your time to solve them, and be sure you do it completely before coming back, my fellow.

Enjoy.
