-Cormanthyr: Empire of the Elves is specific only to Cormanthyr, but it has a lot about what life was society was like.

Yes, is the core manual I“ve been watching, but there is not a specific topic about laws, I have seem something 2 on Volos Guide to Baldurs Gate II on Weldath, but isn“t more than a couple of sentences and both books are 2.0. Thanks for the answer Lord Karsus.

Legal matters seem to only get brief () mention in Realmslore, like with Cormyr and adventuring charters. Waterdeep's Code Legal has a full write-up, but most everything else is a passing mention here, a reference to a specific law there.

My view has always been that elves, being chaotic, have no laws. Not in the sense that humans and dwarves to with words literally carved in stone. Elves has traditions, and standards of behavior and lots of rituals: but all in a chaotic way.

Though also elves don't have "value" and "money" based societies like humans and dwarves. Elves don't "own" things in the vulgar human and dwarf way: no elf would buy a part of the land, but up a fence and say ''hahahaha this is mine!".

So that being said, a lot of ''laws'' are not needed. Elves have no law against stealing as no elf can own anything.

Elven society is controlled much more down at the personal level: each individual elf is free to react to something they feel was done to them "wrong". This is where elven family and friendship ties come in, as you'd get the whole group after you too.

For big things or disagreements, elves just use the simple elder ruling. Each side presents itself, and the elder (or elders or ruler) make the final decision.

I would say that elves do use money... I would say they don't hoard it as much, though, and that the elven approach to real estate is far more communal than it is for humans.

I think elves would tend to focus more on "rehabilitation" than on "punishment".

There's been some mention of elves committing "unspeakable" or "unforgivable" crimes against nature or elvenkind ... they suffer exile. To be cut off social is a big deal to elvels. Exiled elves often end up wasting away or killing themselves.

If drow are an example....to be made non elven would be a big punishment.

And if you go the magic and ''fairie tale'' route, elves would transform elves as punishment into things like say a tree. Or a stone statue.

As far as rehabilitation vs punishment is concerned, I would put the caveat that rules -traditions if you will- for Tel-Quessir do not automatically apply to N'Tel-Quessir. The latter case typically calls for death on the spot.

As a chaotic race, the laws they follow depend on the particular Kingdom they serve at the time. Myth Drannor had different laws than Keltormir. Illefarn had different laws than Arryvandaar. No elven realm has the same laws. Evereska... the last remaining ancient elven kingdom after the third fall of Myth Drannor has laws that even Evermeet does not. Again, it depends on the kingdom or realm in question.

And Illithyr definitely had its own unique set of laws!

Indeed!! The Ilythiiri were once a mighty kingdom of dark skinned elves that ruled most of what is now known as Amn, Tethyr, and Calimshan.
