quote: But, note...all three times....she was prepared. And Half of the whole point of her Chosen is they each contain some of her power so a 'Fall' won't happen. Also, other then Chosen, she has made Weave Anchors.
But, note...every time... the fall did happen. The Weave was forever diminished when Mystril's power was taken by Karsus. The Weave was torn into chaos, wild magic and dead magic zones, when Mystra 1.0 arrogantly defied Ao's decrees. The Weave was wracked by generations of Spellplague when Midnight/Mystra 2.0's power was stolen by Cyric and Shar. Mystra's power was lost again, causing the Sundering. And yet again, causing the Second Sundering.
It might be argued that she did carefully cache away hidden shards of her power, that she did prepare, and that her preparations did indeed mitigate the intensity and duration of the failed Weave during her interregna.
But I would argue that she had to see it coming. Everyone could see it coming. Because it happened again and again before. Foresight and predictions of Mystra "sacrificing herself"/"dying"/"vanishing" yet again are pretty obvious, the pattern is well established. Considering all that, Mystra's special efforts clearly were not enough every time before and it would be foolish to expect they'll be enough next time. |

As some have already mentioned, the Chronomancer book, the Netheril boxed set, the Cormanthyr sourcebook and the entry on the elven deity Labelas Enoreth in Demihuman Deities all deal or at least mention Time Travel, either by spells or time portals. |
"Goodness is not a natural state, but must be fought for to be attained and maintained. Lead by example. Let your deeds speak your intentions. Goodness radiated from the heart."

Talking about the Cormanthyr sourcebook, there is a small paragraph in page 6 that mentions that time travel can indeed derivate into an alternate timeline, you just need to change history so dramatically that it cannot correct itself.
Normally, if a time traveler changes something, history finds a way to "follow its original course", acknowledging the change but maintaining its original outcome. For instance, if the players manage to save the king from his would-be assassins, the king will still die from other causes (accident, illness, war, other assassins...), and so the "future" of the kingdom will remain the same. However, it the players manage to change history in such a way that it cannot restore itself (like, one of the players becomes the new king), a new timeline will be created, and the players will be trapped there, unable to return to their original timeline.
It reminds me of the Black Obelisks of 5e, that send the players to the past while "erasing" the future they came from. Perhaps the future it's not erased and the obelisks just creates an alternate timeline, trapping the players (from their perspective the future was erased, as they are unable to return to it...) |
Instead of seeking change, you prefer a void, merciless abyss of a world... |

The Time Gates mentioned in Cormanythr: Empire of the Elves are really interesting.
Yeah, the obelisk in 5e's Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden can be used to send the party back in time to the days of Netheril in one of the potential endings. |
