Sometime this week (provided my work and study committments don't find a way to interrupt me), I'd like to run a 'test' of the campaign. What this means is, I'll send out a random 'file' to each and every email address that is register as a PC only. You'll then have to reply back to me. I hope to accomplish two issues with this approach. The first is that everyone who has said they are participating successfully receives all of the information. And second, testing the methods upon which this campaign rests.
It will also help me to determine who (if anyone) has dropped out of the ether and will no longer be a part of the campaign. On the plus side, those who are on the 'Diviner's List' will also likely receive an email if several players have dropped out.
So, I'm assuming that no scribe here will have a problem with any of this? If you do, let me know soon. I'll let you all know more as the time for the test approaches.
I'm looking forward to it!

Sage, mind giving us any updates or reasons why this is taking too long? Hope you're not overpreparing this, as I'd rather get going on something imperfect than wait another three months for something extremely cool.
Oh, it will happen. I've put too much of my ether and shadowstuff into this project to let it slip into the Abyss now...
As for reasons why it is taking so long, well... if you've read some of my previous postings in this scroll, you'll realise that I spoke about my recently receiving a promotion at work. Along with an increased pay pack (which is good because I know have more money to spend on books ) and greater access to cutting edge computer technology, my hours have steadily increased as well. This leaves me with little time during a standard 28 hour day to actually set aside time to work on anything other than programs. Plus, my trips east have increased from a few times every two months, to at least three-to-four times a month. So, between greater work hours, and zipping around the country, I'm finding that the free time that I do have is having to be heavily prioritized so that I can pay some attention to all my myriad hobbies.
Take my reading of Eliminster's Daugher for example. I've had the book for three weeks already and I still haven't moved on from Chapter 3...
Plus, (with no disrespect to her ) my relationship with the Lady K. cannot be ignored. So while we may share similar interests... sometimes there's nothing better than setting all of our concerns aside and heading out into the city for some fun...
Time is truly a factor for me. But as I said earlier, this campaign will happen. It's just a question of when...

A 28-hour day? I always knew you had to live on a different planet than the rest of us.
Don't worry . . . we're waiting (im)patiently. Myself, I have some problems of my own. Namely, more work. I just recieved a box of books for a course I'm taking in the later half of the summer here (which, for those whom I have not already told, will entail a temporary absence on my part within a month), so my time is slightly more limited than I would otherwise wish. Among other things, it's caused yet another delay in writing up more on Jack Archer's initial experiences. |

So, in light of all the responsibilities and additional committments stemming from your new position, does a PBeM still look manageable in your eyes? No shame in saying no if there's no time for it! I, for one, am still unemployed but I would not have enough time, due to my active job search and wedding preparations, to DM a campaign at this point, let alone a PBeM (more time consuming for the DM, more coordination involved than tabletop D&D)
Don't be scared to put a stop to it if it's better for you. I for one would rather hear a decisive "no" rather than wait for an undefined amount of time for something that "may" or "could". |

As I've said previously, it WILL happen. And yes, it's still manageable idea. I've learned the basics of my new position now (as well as the demands of, and being responsibile for, more people than I previously was). That's important because it has allowed me to 'relegate' certain duties and tasks to other members of my team. So, this in effect provides me with more time to handle other responsibilites than I've ever had before. In addition, there will be some occassions where I'll likely never have to actually travel to work and just handle the job from home. This will give me more free-time (I hope ), especially with the computer set-up I now have available to me.
I have several days off in the coming week, so I should be able to execute the "test-run" that I was supposed to try last week.
Don't worry PDK, once everything starts, you'll likely be hoping for a break just to catch up with everything that I have prepared...

I have an update from the Sage -
quote: Greetings fellow scribes.
I apologise for the lack of updates about the WTM campaign. I had a small emergency that required my immediate attention.
I won't take up too much of your time, other than to say that the campaign will be starting on August 1st. So please, have all the details pertaining to your particular PCs ready by then. You'll be receiving further details about the campaign in a few days via the great "email" test that I should have already tried several days ago...
Thanks again...

You may have had the "update" email that I sent to you Lady, but you've reproduced my message incorrectly...
I originally stated in my email that the campaign was to begin August 7th.
We have a trip for a holiday to New Zealand on the 28th, or, have you forgotten?

Two players have since dropped out from the time of the last update here (not including today). So, I'm looking for one new player.
Naturally, those on the Diviner's List have been contacted first. But, should any of those not respond to my email, I'll reserve a special place for you Anubis.
I'll let you know more as it happens.

Have you looked over the material I've provided so far?
Anyway, in answer to your question, PCs from any setting are allowed within this campaign. That includes settings that are now discontinued, like SJ and DS.

Obviously, as you say, your anit-spam system chewed it up. Just add my email address to your register in your account. That way when I re-send the message, you'll likely receive it .

I got no emails from you, either.
By the way, I'd like to remind you that I won't be back from my little trip to Eireann for about ten days after the game is supposed to start. I'll try to check in; fortunately, depending on how the game starts, Jack might be predictable enough at first to hand him off temporarily to Artalis, should he agree.
If you could give me some advance knowledge about opening settings (time of day, location, people, etc.) I could get some things prepared before I leave. |

That's because you are not on the Diviner's List. Jack already has a secured spot in the party line-up...

I'd been thinking about providing said information anyway, as a matter of course. It is my intention to have several of the party members well versed in the intricate levels I've crafted for the plot. Since many of the themes that will carry through the adventure will have their foundations laid in the introduction, it may not be that clear for some players to see what exactly is going on (although, that may not be such a bad thing ).
In any event, I'll try and get some basic opening setting details over to you as soon as I am able.
Just refresh my memory... when do you actually leave for your trip to the Misty Isles...?

Sorry. I thought you were talking about that introductory email sent to all players already registered that you've been talking about sending for the last month or so.

I leave for the college on Monday, where I won't have as much time for Candlekeep; a week later, I board a plane er, I mean, a gnomish airship for the Moonshaes . . . once that happens, I'll likely be out of contact for two weeks and change. |

I have not recieved an e-mail either, but it sounds like you only sent one to the diviners list and not to the rest of us so I'm not too worried. Just wanted to let you know I'm still alive hehe. Plus Allison (my character) and Kelly (Artalis' character) now have met, briefly. Just enough so they know each other by appearance and by name and have a vague sense of each others background.
I just realized I did not add skill synergy bonuses. I'll do that and send a copy to both Sage and Lady Kazandra.
Or do you add those synergy bonuses in yourself automatically? I'm not quite sure how those work... |

I'm sure it wouldn't bother Sage to do a quick edit on the computer (or with pencil if he's printed it out and has one of those old-fashioned devices lying around ). However, it's best to do it yourself beforehand.
Likely the best thing is to do what I did. I set up a Geocities website as an idle project last year, and now Jack's character sheet is up on it. It's a simple HTML sheet that I can easily update when needed, so Sage can just click the link when he needs to check something -- I don't have to send the whole file over email every time I make a slight correction.
The format I've used lets me put in pseudo-tables to organize everything; it's really just the use of a lot of spaces. (I can do that because it looks the same on every screen, but if I sent it as a text file, it would probably get a little screwy depending on that computer's default settings.)
The site's very unfinished, but perhaps I should let it go public now . . . . |

Excellent idea Bookwyrm! I have a Homestead site of my own I can just make a page there and copy/paste/edit my character sheet whenever I want to. And of course like you said then all I have to do is provide the link for anyone who wants to see it! |
