I wanted to read a bit about Candlekeep but there is not much information on the wiki. Are there any good books on Candlekeep?

The Baldur's Gate game starts off in Candlekeep.
Part of the last Sundering novel is in Candlekeep. The book Prince of Lies deals abit with Candlekeep. |

I played Badlur's Gate like 10 years ago so I don't remember much, but if I recall correctly there wasn't much information on Candlekeep there.

Nope. There are large swathes of the Realms not covered by source material. |

Thanks. One of my hardcore D&D fan friends (back when I had friends) told me that "every house is detailed in Faerun", so I was expecting a book on Candlekeep too. Guess it's too bad - I was considering making an Elf from Candlekeep to roleplay with. |

The novels "City of Splendors" and "The Herald" all are partly set in Candlekeep. The latter source is of more utility.

From what I gathered from the 4e material, Candlekeep itself got separated from the coast (when all the coasts presumably changed). I picture it sitting atop an outcropping of rock just off the (new) coast, and perhaps needing some sort of magical bridge to get to it (although we have a couple of those in the Realms, I think 'portals' are far more over-done). I had some ideas for it when 4e was 1st released, but then everyone went a little nuts and I never bothered pursuing those ideas (that that ISN'T Candlekeep - the original was destroyed during the Spellplague. That structure was the 'invisible back-up' vault where they maintained copies of all the tomes).
However, I don't know what went on in The Herald, so I don't know if any of that is consistent with the fact that it isn't supposed to be connected to the mainland anymore. Post-Sundering (5e), Lord only knows. |

I can confirm that since the Sundering, Candlekeep is reconnected to the mainland. Mike Schley's map that was in the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide (available for free here) seems very similar to the OGB map. I've posted them over each other and they align pretty much exactly.
As far as the connection with the mainland goes, this is held up in the description in the SCAG:

| In the 3rd Edition module Anauroch: The Empire of Shade, there's a chapter where the PCs will need to research some things (named Research and Development), and the first "primary source" of that chapter deals with actually going to Candlekeep and interacting with the staff there. That's my favorite chapter in the mod because it details, at least a little bit, several possible research locations on Faerun. |

| Thanks guys! Got some info. Still did not find whether there are Elves in Candlekeep (though it seems there are Dwarves - http://baldursgate.wikia.com/wiki/Reevor) but I think I'll go with it anyways. After all Gorion's Ward could be an Elf, right? |
