In Volo's Guide to Monsters it is possible to make player characters from Tabaxi. Rightly it says that they are from the land of Maztica, however such a land disappeared hundreds of years ago with the Spellplague.
Has something changed or is 5e lore that Abier was never returned?

| The 5e lore for Maztica is that Abeir and Toril have been separated again by Ao, so Maztica and the Old Empires are now back to Toril (with some dragonborn and a small part of Tymanther being left behind on Toril). |

Eventually I am going to try to do the 'amalgam' map I had planned for the region, merging the two. At the time I started it my skill-set wasn't up to the task. It should be now.
Thats the ideal solution, but canonically, Irennan has the right of it - the maps have all been restored to the way they were in 1e/2e (for now ). |

| Personally, I'd prefer it if returned Abeir stayed but somehow got displaced (like Evermeet was where its "mirror" of Evermeet went south to near Returned Abeir). In fact, if it were to be displaced north near Evermeet between it and the top of Anchorome that could prove interesting. |

How about if Laerakond (RA) EATS Evermeet?
I picture it looking something like this...
Sad Little Elves
Now picture the Island of Evermeet with one of those speech bubbles saying "This Sucks..."
*Thats actually Ulthuan from Warhammer, but close enough. |

As a general idea, that ain't bad. Laerakond has an open bottom, so you would still have the ability for elven ships to come in. It might actually be better if it we northerly and a little westerly (so that the southwestern tip of Laerakond is above the northern tip of Evermeet. It would put Laerakond just south of that thin peninsula reaching out from Anchorome's top and east of all the little island chains off Anchorome's coast. They could in essence become a threat to Northern Anchorome, Evermeet and the sword coast north.... meanwhile, the Northmen of Ruathym and the Moonshaes would also have a great new place to start raiding.
That being said, I'm betting most people would frown on the idea, but personally I just hate the idea of sending what was developed (even though I never used it) off back to Abeir... that is unless we suddenly find there's all these little pathways back and forth between Abeir and Toril as a result of the spellplague (but if they didn't show up whenever the two were merged, why would they show up afterward? Unless of course, it has something to do with portals built in the last hundred years..... hmmm, idea...) |

Well, that WAS supposed to be a joke - Ulthuan is actually the elven kingdom in Warhammer, and I always felt their island was SO much cooler than ours (Island envy? )
This thread inspired me to re-visit my Laerakond/Maztica hybrid, and I found a pleasant surprise - I had already 'revisited' it before, about a year ago. I only remembered my original concept, which I used to have up on Deviant ART (I don't even have those files any more). In that one, I was trying to re-make Anchoromé as Returned Abeir, so that we could have both simultaneously. In this newer one, it seems I made an attempt to fit (almost) all the Abeir locales into the (mostly) canon map of Maztica - its actually not that bad. Most of the locales from both settings are not near each other (Maz. kept to the north, and Abeir kept to the south... mostly). I had to lose Fimbrul (a cold region doesn't really make sense there), but I can always find a new home for it nearby (like further north, in Anchoromé).
So, of course I started playing with it again. Maztica's western 'leg' is even narrower than Abeir's, and I recalled how Ed said he had actually wanted the RA map bigger on that side than how it was in the 4e FRCG. So, I went back in and tweaked it - kept the Maztican eastern coast (mostly) intact, but moved it more east, giving me the room I needed to really play (and giving Maztica the 'rounder' look Laerakond has/had). Since there really isn't a whole lot of locales (or research needed) for either of those regions, this is something I can easily finish in my spare time (I'll probably just color-code the mountains and forests for now, so its in a usable form some time this century). Maybe even try something a little different (like how I made my World of Ark map) - make it look like a 'satellite projection'. We'll see.
I want to add a few more islands, and then maybe I'll post a WIP of that as well. |
