Anybody have this old 3.0 supplement? Is it worth tracking down?

"Oh, you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but.. blinding. The shadows betray you because they belong to me." - Bane The Dark Knight Rises

What are you looking for? What's your target system?
I just flipped through it now - it's a 3.0 monster toolkit book, and 3.0 was notoriously bad at systems design or balance, especially from third-party publishers. (Even though the design and development team are Mike Mearls and Wil Upchurch, it's still 3e 3pp and suspect to me.)
It has some interesting ideas - a couple cool feats and so on, but I'd just rifle through for the templates and stuff that I find interesting and convert those. Don't take anything from the book without redoing it first, even if you're playing 3.0. If you're playing other editions, a lot of the book (a discussion of CR and then customizing monsters) is going to be largely useless for you, because there's better options in other books for 3.5, Pathfinder, 4e, and probably 5e.
So it's okay. You'd basically get a Dragon magazine article's worth of "new feats to pump up YOUR monsters out of it." It's up to you whether that's worth it or not. |
