*Ahem* Lolth worshiping drow want to eradicate the surface elves, in revenge on Araushnee's Banishment at the hands of Corellon. |
The Chosen of Vhaeraun "Nature is governed by certain immutable rules. By virtue of claw and fang, the lion will always triumph over the goat.Given time, the pounding of the sea will wear away the stone. And when dark elves mingle with the lighter races, the offspring invariably take after the dark parent. It is all much the same. That which is greater shall prevail. Our numbers increase steadily, both through birth and conquest. The dark elves are the dominant race, so ordained by the gods." Ka'Narlist of the Ilythiiri. |

This is indeed true... But not all drow worship Lolth (though she would have you think otherwise). Vhaeraun worshippers would have no problem with like-minded elves... And Eilistraee's followers wouldn't be out to eradicate anyone... |

In the Upper Underdark, definitely Lolth. Depending upon what you do with the lower reaches, it may be Ghaunadar, instead of Lolth. Aboveground, now, it would be Vhaeraun. Selvetarm is practically considered Lolth for this, and Eilistraee is moving a bit slower. And as far as my campaigns are considered, Kiaransalee is recovering her strength, after losses in Maerimydra and Thanatos. All of us scribes who run decisively..different campaigns should really post our ideas... |

I suppose I could post my ideas sometimes, Arivia. However, you have to promise to take Celine back to Canada... |

Short answer: in the Underdark.
Longer answer: The drow do not dominate any one geographical region. They have city-states scattered all over the place, but rarely control much past a day or two's travel outside their city.
Most of the races of the Underdark are like that. The Underdark isn't like the surface world, where everything is relatively flat and easy to move across. In the Underdark, you've got caverns and tunnels. Two cities may be a handful of miles away from each other, but it could still require days to actually travel that distance, because of the way the tunnels are laid out, and because the cities may not even be on the same rough level -- one might be two miles deeper than the other, for example.
That's why there's a lot of indepedent cities, but not very many nations, in the Underdark. |

Depends on what you mean......
Overall: Lolth
On the Surface: Vhaeraun
On Fashion or lack there of: Eilistraee
On Causing many DM's headaches with players that want to play a clone version of him: OSA Drizzt, wait, he isn't a deity....not yet at least. |

Only time will tell on the deity thing. No idea on the proper way of pronouncing his name. If someone else can't help you out, you can check out the author's web page. He has a forum there where I'm sure the very topic has come up. |

LOL! What hole? According to online "fans" of OSA Drizzt, the novel this year will conclude with:
1. Drizzt becoming a God 2. Drizzt becoming a chosen of some God. 3. Drizzt dying. 4. Drizzt retiring 5. Drizzt deciding to open up an all night diner in Waterdeep.
Okay, the last one was my creation. But, seriously, all the others I've heard speculated/predicted/pondered, etc. Thus, anything is possible. Although I'll go out on a limb right now and say OSA Drizzt will not open up a diner. |

Just have a willing author who wishes to write such a story. It worked for Midnight and company didn't it? |

Shadowdale by Richard Awlinson Tantras by Richard Awlinson Waterdeep by Richard Awlinson Prince of Lies by James Lowder Crucible - The Trial of Cyric the Mad by Troy Denning
Ah, the author on the first three is pen name and I forgot who the original authors are. Some one will hopefully post the info, since I'm old school and have the original novels. :) |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Scott Ciencin wrote the first two, if I remember correctly, and Waterdeep was written by Troy Denning (Destroyer of Worlds! ). |

Don't exaggerate my fine follower of Vhaeraun. Mr. Denning merely destroys cities and/or kings, not entire worlds.
Was he the one that killed Chewbacca too? Or was that the creator of Drizzt? |

Nope, that was the creator of OSA Drizzt.
Quite a few FR authors did some interesting things to the Star Wars timeline... |

Give him time and let him write a few more FR books and I'm sure he'd manage to finish off the rest of Faerun. :) |

Let's all get back on track, people. Now for another question: is there actually a Drow city called Ust Natha with a silver dragon lair nearby? |
There can be only one. |

As far as I am aware, the drow city of Ust Natha, was simply a creation for the CRPG Baldur's Gate. It is not detailed in any of the various tomes on the Underdark from either edition.
