That's where my patience would end. :) If it's out I want it and I cannot wait 6 months to a year for it to come out in paperback. |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Is that one of the reasons why you are going to marry her?
I'm about to start reading Annihilation again today. I hope my second experience is better than my first. |

What do you mean one of the reasons? It's the reason .
Sadly that's about all of the fantasy she is interested in. She tried the hobbit, couldn't get into it. Not a starwars fan , not a LOTR fan but I guess I'll keep her around anyway |

I'm the same way as CoB i have to have them in paperback because the is the way i started buying the books. The only FR hardback i have is the cleric Quintet compulation. At the time it came out there wasn't a used book store in town so i didn't think i could get them in paperback. Of course that was years ago. I know eventually i will get the reprinted paperback to it just so i have them in paperback on the selves with the rest of them. How i wish they would reprint Murder in Halurra in paperback. So my collection can be complete.

I'm getting closer and closer to completing my collection of Realms novels, and my reading is coming along rather nicely in spite of the rigors of my coursework, remodeling my house, and playing with my 6 month old daughter. Let's see, I read Once Around the Realms (yikes), Shandril's Saga, and I'm working on Elfsong. I really enjoyed Shandril's Saga, particularly Mirt and the Knights of Myth Drannor. Does anyone know if the expanded version of Spellfire contains the additional Manshoon scenes Ed has referred to, or does the expansion merely cover the Maulagrym? |

Greetings, Sirius Black, can I inquire how you find the Realms of the Dragons II book? |
We have fostered trust, recruited loyalty, and gathered the faithful. We have trained thousands. Our legions can cover the land, fill the sky and travel through the darkness. We can hunt any and all that would deny our heritage. Now is our time, now is the time of the Dark Reign(Rain) of the Empire of Shadows. - High Prince Telemont Tanthul, Lord Shadow In a speech given to the citizens of Shade Enclave At the celebration of the Shinantra Battle victory when he revealed that he was THE Lord Shadow of legend. |

So far, I'm really pleased with the stories I've read within the anthology. I've already posted a few positive comments in different threads. While I like both anthologies so far Realms of the Dragons II is proving to be more enjoyable than the first anthology. Erik Scott de Bie's tale in particular really shined for this reader. |

I looked for it yesterday at B&N, but they didn't have it. It's been a long time since I walked out of B&N empty-handed on payday.
(Before anyone asks, I'd already found Champions of Ruin at my FLGS, along with a new issue of Dragon.) |

You know, I've been very pleased with the Realms books of late. I've really enjoyed The Forsaken House, The Rogue Dragon series (anthology included--loved every story!), and the Scions of Arrabar books. Sapphire Crescent was hungrily devoured as soon as I realized what I was reading. I'm savoring Ruby Guardian.
I plan on reading Ressurection next, but I'm a bit iffy about starting the Priests books. I have Lady of Poison and Mistress of Night. I also own (but haven't read) Crimson Gold or Yellow Silk. What do you folks think? |
"That's right, hurl back views that force ye to think by name-calling - 'tis the grand old tradition, let it not down! Anything to keep from having to think, or - Mystra forfend - change thy own views!"
Narnra glowered at her father. "Just how am I to learn how to think? By being taught by you?"
"Some folk in the Realms would give their lives for the chance to learn at my feet," Elminster said mildly. "Several already have."

Xysma, I'm afraid the revised Spellfire IS pretty well all Malaugrym (for the trimmed new stuff), not Manshoon. Sorry. As for Mirt, Ed tells me you'll see him (and Asper, too) a few times in CITY OF SPLENDORS, one of the scenes being "quite important" and "an insight into Mirt's character." As for the Knights, of course, bring on Ed's new trilogy . . .!!!! love, THO |

In the words of Torm of the Knights of Myth Drannor: "Thinking? Who said anything about thinking? First kill, then loot... And the thinking part is that unpleasant shouting business at the end when it all has to be divided. It makes the head hurt."
More seriously, I can't really give you advice since I haven't read any books of the Priests series. Therefore, I envy you your dilemma. |

I heartily agree with your view of recent novels, with the exception of The Rage, which I didn't really felt anything for. It wasn't bad, but something was missing. This of course led to me being pleasantly surprised by The Prisoner of Hulburg as well as The Rite which happens to be the book I'm reading at the moment.
As for the Priests books I can't really give you any advice as they're next on my to-read list. I did enjoy Crimson Gold a lot though. |

Well they cant print Realms book fast enough for me not to be done with them in no more than 3 days.
So..... on to the opinions
Crust, I really liked the priest series of books ( I'm big fans of Shar and Selune) so I would recomend you try at least Lady of Poison.
As to how up to date I am with my FR novels, I'm completely caught up right now after the Realms of the Dragons II. And I'm really anticipating Elaine's and Ed'd wterdeep novel.
Heck they'ii probably never make enough FR novels and supplements for me.That's just me loving the Realms!!! |

I had mixed feelings about Crimson Gold and The Yellow Silk, but Lady of Poison featured some truly amateur writing, and I personally wouldn't recommend it. The Rage was interesting enough, but I thought it suffered from being a bit predictable. But it featurers a priest of Lathander, so I'm happy enough with it (guess which deity is the favorite of yours truly).

Blue - LAdy of Poison had a good story in a very little used area of the realms, and Mistress of the Night was great if you like priests/clerics; I think that this is 1 area that hasnt seen much light in the Realms. And it certainelty wouldnt hurt to have something other than fighters and wizards in most books.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree with you. Even more than in The Rage, the plot was predictable, the characters poorly developed, and the prose was just bad. The attempts at foreshadowing were hamhanded and completely destroyed the suspense they were endeavoring to create. I wish Mr. Cordell the best of luck and I hope his future writing endeavors are successful, but Lady of Poison was a real stinker. As you say, it takes place in a little-used area, but that doesn't make up for the serious flaws I've mentioned.

I enjoyed Mistress of the Night. However, I agree with The Blue Sorceress' when it comes to Lady of Poison. I'd pass on that tome. Overall, the books from the class series have been hit or miss with this reader. |

I'm in the same boat it only takes me 2 to 3 days to read a book. Thankfully there are so many different books around that I can read them until the next FR comes out. On average I read 10 to 15 books a month. The whole skipping over a tomb don't do it read them all.
Alaundo Help I've been looking all over on the net for Murder in Halurra in PB. Every novel listing i've found says that it was never published in paperback. Where did you find one and how did you get it? |

You might not be able to find that in PB because 1996 is about when TSR was going under and being bought out by WOTC..... |
