As one or the other has read, I am involved in an NWN1 project revolving around the Fork, in the Silver Marches. It has been running for over ten years now, and right now, we are busy translating things from german to english since the german NWN1 playerbase has grown rather small... And all of us are reasonably adept at english anyway.

Given that fact, I have started toying around with a song of my own crafting, and figured I'd post the lyrics here, to get some opinions, and maybe suggestions. I do not consider it in any way done or perfectly refined, and I am certainly neither singer or songwriter. So, feel free to to tell me ideas for improvement, or just to stop crafting songs before it gets all too bad.

The fitting melody for this would be the Misty Mountains from LOTR. As a bit of background, the player characters hailed from all parts and professions of Faerun, and built up a town at and around the Fork, starting out from the Wildlands Rest and a scarce few tents. It is a small frontier town now, with stone walls, a small mage's academy and the like.

Far over
The woods and forests old
Past ruins and realms
Ancient and cold
Past mountains tall
Against the wall
Far from keeps
Of stone and wood

Among orcs roaring
And dragons soaring
Two friends of long
Held tall and strong
A lonesome tavern
On a crossroad stood
Between the peaks
Of Sund'bar Vale

And trees were felled
And ores were mined
And furs were tanned
And iron refined
Houses were built
And walls were raised
Against the dangers
The gates were braced

They suffered orcs
And troll bands too
They fought off goblins
And dragons true
Some did fall
Valiant on the wall
These courageous heroes
Gave blood and life

To these heroes
We drink and sing
They held the wall
And held it long
And held it valiant
Held tall and strong
Against the dangers
Of far wild north

Some did swing
Sharp and mighty blades
Some nocked arrows
Flying swift and far
Some cast blazing
And flaming spells
They hailed from places
Both near and far

From distant vales
To close Adbar
From glades and dales
To close Quaervarr
From Estagund
To Beorunnas Well
From Aglarond
To Auvandell

From cormyr lords
To northland blades
From mere sellswords
To dam'ran sages
From silv'raen bards
To thayan slaves
From helmite guards
To elven staves

Whatever call
Against dragons roar
They're standing tall
'Gainst foes of yore
On hill and wall
No matter foe
They stand all
Facing war and woe

I dig it. It feels like a drinking song, something for the night before a battle... but every morning can bring battle, even if you're not expecting a horde, which can make it an anytime song.

Ga' gnomes, ga' gnomes. Stick a Fork in the buttock of an orc.

Thanks. And yes, the beginnings of that settlement was pretty much that - you never knew when orcs or goblins came against the first wooden walls, and players regularily spent ingame nights around a campfire on the hill next to the gate, taking watch and sharing stories. That song is a bit of a tribute to all those local heroes holding on despite the dangers.
